1 И было слово1697 Самуила8050 ко всему Израилю.3478 И выступили3318 Израильтяне3478 против7125 Филистимлян6430 на войну4421 и расположились2583 станом2583 при Авен-Езере,72 а Филистимляне6430 расположились2583 при Афеке.663

2 И выстроились6186 Филистимляне6430 против7125 Израильтян,3478 и произошла5203 битва,4421 и были поражены5062 Израильтяне3478 Филистимлянами,6430 которые побили5221 на поле7704 сражения4634 около четырех702 тысяч505 человек.376

3 И пришел935 народ5971 в стан;4264 и сказали559 старейшины2205 Израилевы:3478 за что поразил5062 нас Господь3068 сегодня3117 пред3942 Филистимлянами?6430 возьмем3947 себе из Силома7887 ковчег727 завета1285 Господня,3068 и он пойдет935 среди7130 нас и спасет3467 нас от руки3709 врагов341 наших.

4 И послал7971 народ5971 в Силом,7887 и принесли5375 оттуда ковчег727 завета1285 Господа3068 Саваофа,6635 седящего3427 на херувимах;3742 а при ковчеге727 завета1285 Божия430 были и два8147 сына1121 Илиевы,5941 Офни2652 и Финеес.6372

5 И когда прибыл935 ковчег727 завета1285 Господня3068 в стан,4264 весь Израиль3478 поднял7321 такой сильный1419 крик,8643 что земля776 стонала.1949

6 И услышали8085 Филистимляне6430 шум6963 восклицаний8643 и сказали:559 отчего такие громкие14198643 восклицания6963 в стане Евреев?5680 И узнали,3045 что ковчег727 Господень3068 прибыл935 в стан.4264

7 И устрашились3372 Филистимляне,6430 ибо сказали:559 Бог430 тот пришел935 к ним в стан.4264 И сказали:559 горе188 нам! ибо не бывало подобного ни вчера,865 ни третьего8032 дня;8032

8 горе188 нам! кто избавит5337 нас от руки3027 этого сильного117 Бога?430 Это — тот Бог,430 Который поразил5221 Египтян4714 всякими казнями4347 в пустыне;4057

9 укрепитесь2388 и будьте1961 мужественны,582 Филистимляне,6430 чтобы вам не быть5647 в5647 порабощении5647 у Евреев,5680 как они у вас в порабощении;5647 будьте1961 мужественны582 и сразитесь3898 с ними.

12 И побежал7323 один376 Вениамитянин1144 с места сражения4634 и пришел935 в Силом7887 в тот же день;3117 одежда4055 на нем была разодрана7167 и прах127 на голове7218 его.

13 Когда пришел935 он, Илий5941 сидел3427 на седалище3678 при дороге1870 у ворот30273197 и смотрел,6822 ибо сердце3820 его трепетало2730 за ковчег727 Божий.430 И когда человек376 тот пришел935 и объявил5046 в городе,5892 то громко2199 восстенал2199 весь город.5892

14 И услышал8085 Илий5941 звуки6963 вопля6818 и сказал:559 отчего6963 такой шум?1995 И тотчас4116 подошел935 человек376 тот и объявил5046 Илию.5941

15 Илий5941 был тогда девяноста8673 восьми8083 лет;8141 и глаза5869 его померкли,6965 и он не мог3201 видеть.7200

16 И сказал559 тот человек376 Илию:5941 я пришел935 из стана,4634 сегодня3117 же бежал5127 я с места сражения.4634 И сказал559 Илий: что произошло,1697 сын1121 мой?

17 И отвечал6030 вестник1319 и сказал:559 побежал5127 Израиль3478 пред3942 Филистимлянами,6430 и поражение4046 великое1419 произошло в народе,5971 и оба8147 сына1121 твои, Офни2652 и Финеес,6372 умерли,4191 и ковчег727 Божий430 взят.3947

18 Когда упомянул2142 он о ковчеге727 Божием,430 Илий упал5307 с седалища3678 навзничь322 у11573027 ворот,8179 сломал7665 себе хребет4665 и умер;4191 ибо он был стар2204 и тяжел.3513 Был же он судьею8199 Израиля3478 сорок705 лет.8141

19 Невестка3618 его, жена802 Финеесова,6372 была беременна2030 уже пред родами.3205 И когда услышала8085 она известие8052 о413 взятии3947 ковчега727 Божия430 и о смерти4191 свекра2524 своего и мужа376 своего, то упала3766 на3766 колени3766 и родила,3205 ибо приступили2015 к ней боли6735 ее.

20 И когда6256 умирала4191 она, стоявшие5324 при ней женщины5324 говорили1696 ей: не бойся,3372 ты родила3205 сына.1121 Но она не отвечала6030 и не обращала7896 внимания.3820

21 И назвала7121 младенца:5288 Ихавод,350 сказав:559 «отошла1540 слава3519 от Израиля»3478 — со413 взятием3947 ковчега727 Божия430 и со смертью свекра2524 ее и мужа376 ее.

22 Она сказала:559 отошла1540 слава3519 от Израиля,3478 ибо взят3947 ковчег727 Божий.430

1 Samuel

Chapter 4

1 AND the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and encamped by the Rock of Help; and the Philistines encamped at Aphek.

2 And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel; and when they fought, Israel was defeated before the Philistines; and there were slain on the battlefield about four thousand men.

3 And when the people were come to the camp, the elders of Israel said, Why has the LORD smitten us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts out of Shiloh to us, that it may go with us and save us from our enemies.

4 So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, who dwells upon the cherubim; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

5 And it came to pass, when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that it reechoed.

6 And when the Philistines heard the noise, they said, What is this noise of shouting in the camp of the Hebrews? And they learned that the ark of the LORD had come into the camp.

7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe to us! For there has not been such a thing before.

8 Woe to us! who shall deliver us from the hands of the mighty God? This is the God who smote the whole of Egypt with all sorts of plagues and performed wonders in the wilderness.

9 Be strong, and conduct yourselves like men, O Philistines, lest you become servants to the Hebrews, as they have served you; be strong and fight with them.

10 And the Philistines fought with Israel, and Israel was defeated, and they fled every man to his tent; and there was a very great slaughter in Israel; for there fell of Israel in that day thirty thousand footmen.

11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

12 And there ran a man of Benjamin from the battle line, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent and with earth upon his head.

13 And Eli was sitting upon a seat by the wayside watching; for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city to tell of the disaster, all the city cried out.

14 And when Eli heard the noise of crying, he said, What is this noise of tumult? And the man came in hastily and told Eli.

15 Now Eli was seventy-eight years old; and his eyes were dim so that he could not see.

16 And the man said to Eli, I am he who came from the battle line, and I fled today from the battle line. And he said to him, What is the news, my son?

17 And the messenger answered and said, Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken.

18 And it came to pass, when Eli thought of the ark of God, he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck broke, and he died; for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

19 And his daughter-in-law, Phinehas' wife, was with child; and was near to be delivered; and when she heard the news that the ark of God was taken and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she bowed down and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

20 And about the time of her death, the women that stood by her said to her, Fear not; for you have borne a son. But she neither answered nor did she pay attention to it.

21 And she named the child Jochabar, saying, The glory is departed from Israel; because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.

22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel; for the ark of God is taken.

7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe to us! For there has not been such a thing before.

10 And the Philistines fought with Israel, and Israel was defeated, and they fled every man to his tent; and there was a very great slaughter in Israel; for there fell of Israel in that day thirty thousand footmen.

11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.

12 And there ran a man of Benjamin from the battle line, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent and with earth upon his head.

13 And Eli was sitting upon a seat by the wayside watching; for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city to tell of the disaster, all the city cried out.

14 И услышал8085 Илий5941 звуки6963 вопля6818 и сказал:559 отчего6963 такой шум?1995 И тотчас4116 подошел935 человек376 тот и объявил5046 Илию.5941

14 And when Eli heard the noise of crying, he said, What is this noise of tumult? And the man came in hastily and told Eli.

15 Илий5941 был тогда девяноста8673 восьми8083 лет;8141 и глаза5869 его померкли,6965 и он не мог3201 видеть.7200

15 Now Eli was seventy-eight years old; and his eyes were dim so that he could not see.

16 И сказал559 тот человек376 Илию:5941 я пришел935 из стана,4634 сегодня3117 же бежал5127 я с места сражения.4634 И сказал559 Илий: что произошло,1697 сын1121 мой?

16 And the man said to Eli, I am he who came from the battle line, and I fled today from the battle line. And he said to him, What is the news, my son?

17 And the messenger answered and said, Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has been also a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken.
