1 Так само дружи́ни, — корі́ться своїм чоловікам, щоб і деякі, хто не ко́риться слову, були приєднані без слова пово́дженням дружи́н,

2 як побачать ваше пово́дження чисте в страху́.

3 А окрасою їм нехай буде не зовнішнє, — запліта́ння волосся та наві́шання золота або вбира́ння одеж,

4 але захо́вана люди́на серця в нетлінні ла́гідного й мовчазно́го духа, що дорогоцінне перед Богом.

5 Бо так само колись прикраша́ли себе й святі ті жінки́, що клали надію на Бога й кори́лись своїм чоловікам.

6 Так Сара корилась Авраамові, і паном його називала. А ви — її діти, коли добро робите та не лякаєтесь жа́дного стра́ху.

7 Чоловіки, — так само живіть ра́зом із дружи́нами за розумом, як зо слабішою жіночою посудиною, і виявляйте їм честь, бо й вони є співспадкоє́миці благода́ті життя, щоб не спинялися ваші моли́тви.

8 Наре́шті ж, будьте всі одноду́мні, спочутливі, братолюбні, милосердні, покірливі.

9 Не платіть злом за зло, або лайкою за лайку, навпаки, — благословляйте, знавши, що на це вас покликано, щоб ви вспадкува́ли благослове́ння.

10 „Бо хто хоче любити життя та бачити добрі дні, нехай здержить свого язика́ від лихого та у́ста свої від гово́рення пі́дступу.

11 Ухиляйся від злого та добре чини, шукай миру й женися за ним!

12 Бо очі Господні — до праведних, а ву́ха Його — до їхніх прохань, а Господнє лице проти тих, хто чинить лихе!“

13 І хто заподі́є вам зле, коли будете ви оборонцями доброго?

14 А коли ви за праведність і страждаєте, то ви блаженні! „А їхнього стра́ху не бійтеся, і не тривожтеся!“

15 А Господа Христа освятіть у ваших серцях, і за́вжди готовими будьте на відповідь кожному, хто в вас запитає рахунку про надію, що в вас, із ла́гідністю та зо стра́хом.

16 Майте добре сумління, щоб тим, за що́ вас обмовляють, немов би злочинців, були посоромлені лихосло́вники вашого пово́дження в Христі.

17 Бо ліпше страждати за добрі діла, — коли хоче того Божа воля, — аніж за лихі.

18 Бо й Христос один раз постраждав був за наші гріхи, щоб приве́сти нас до Бога, Праведний за неправедних, хоч уме́ртвлений тілом, але Духом ожи́влений,

19 Яким Він і ду́хам, що в в'язниці були, зійшовши, звіщав;

20 вони колись непокі́рливі були́, як їх Боже довготерпіння чекало за Но́євих днів, коли будувався ковче́г, що в ньому мало, цебто вісім душ, спаслось від води.

21 Того образ, хрищення — не тілесної нечистости позбуття́, але обі́тниця Богові доброго сумління, — спасає тепер і нас воскресінням Ісуса Христа,

22 що, зійшовши на небо, пробуває по Божій правиці, а Йому підкорилися анголи, влади та сили.

3 Whose3739 adorning2889 let it not be that outward1855 adorning2889 of plaiting1708 the hair,2359 and of wearing4025 of gold,5553 or2228 of putting1745 on1745 of apparel;2440

4 But let it be the hidden2927 man444 of the heart,2588 in that which is not corruptible,862 even the ornament of a meek4239 and quiet2272 spirit,4151 which3739 is in the sight1799 of God2316 of great4185 price.4185

5 For after3779 this3779 manner3779 in the old4218 time4218 the holy40 women1135 also,2532 who3588 trusted1679 in God,2316 adorned2885 themselves,1438 being in subjection5293 to their own2398 husbands:435

6 Even5613 as Sara4564 obeyed5219 Abraham,11 calling2564 him lord:2962 whose3739 daughters5043 you are, as long as you do15 well,15 and are not afraid5399 with any1536 amazement.4423

7 Likewise,3664 you husbands,435 dwell4924 with them according2596 to knowledge,1108 giving632 honor5092 to the wife,1134 as to the weaker772 vessel,4632 and as being heirs4789 together4789 of the grace5485 of life;2222 that your5216 prayers4335 be not hindered.1581

8 Finally,5056 be you all3956 of one3675 mind,3675 having compassion4835 one of another,4835 love5361 as brothers,5361 be pitiful,2155 be courteous:5391

9 Not rendering591 evil2556 for evil,2556 or2228 railing3059 for railing:3059 but contrariwise5121 blessing;2129 knowing1492 that you are thereunto1519 5124 called,2564 that you should inherit2816 a blessing.2129

10 For he that will2309 love25 life,2222 and see1492 good18 days,2250 let him refrain3973 his tongue1100 from evil,2556 and his lips5491 that they speak2980 no3361 guile:1388

11 Let him eschew1578 evil,2556 and do4160 good;18 let him seek2212 peace,1515 and ensue1377 it.

12 For the eyes3788 of the Lord2962 are over1909 the righteous,1342 and his ears3775 are open to their prayers:1162 but the face4383 of the Lord2962 is against1909 them that do4160 evil.2556

13 And who5101 is he that will harm2559 you, if1437 you be followers3402 of that which is good?18

14 But and if you suffer3958 for righteousness'1343 sake, happy3107 are you: and be not afraid5399 of their terror,5401 neither3366 be troubled;5015

15 But sanctify37 the Lord2962 God2316 in your5216 hearts:2588 and be ready2092 always104 to give an answer627 to every3956 man that asks154 you a reason3056 of the hope1680 that is in you with meekness4240 and fear:5401

16 Having2192 a good18 conscience;4893 that, whereas1722 3759 they speak2635 evil2635 of you, as of evildoers,2555 they may be ashamed2617 that falsely accuse1908 your5216 good18 conversation391 in Christ.5547

17 For it is better,2909 if1487 the will2307 of God2316 be so, that you suffer3958 for well15 doing,15 than2228 for evil2554 doing.2554

18 For Christ5547 also2532 has once530 suffered3958 for sins,266 the just1342 for the unjust,94 that he might bring4317 us to God,2316 being put2289 to death2289 in the flesh,4561 but quickened2227 by the Spirit:4151

19 By which3739 also2532 he went4198 and preached2784 to the spirits4151 in prison;5438

20 Which sometime4218 were disobedient,544 when3753 once530 the long-suffering3115 of God2316 waited1551 in the days2250 of Noah,3575 while the ark2787 was a preparing,2680 wherein1519 3757 few,3641 that is, eight3638 souls5590 were saved1295 by water.5204

21 The like499 figure499 whereunto3739 even baptism908 does also2532 now3568 save4982 us (not the putting595 away595 of the filth4509 of the flesh,4561 but the answer1906 of a good18 conscience4893 toward1519 God,2316) by the resurrection386 of Jesus2424 Christ:5547

22 Who3739 is gone4198 into1519 heaven,3772 and is on1722 the right1188 hand of God;2316 angels32 and authorities1849 and powers1411 being made5293 subject5293 to him.

7 Чоловіки, — так само живіть ра́зом із дружи́нами за розумом, як зо слабішою жіночою посудиною, і виявляйте їм честь, бо й вони є співспадкоє́миці благода́ті життя, щоб не спинялися ваші моли́тви.

8 Наре́шті ж, будьте всі одноду́мні, спочутливі, братолюбні, милосердні, покірливі.

9 Не платіть злом за зло, або лайкою за лайку, навпаки, — благословляйте, знавши, що на це вас покликано, щоб ви вспадкува́ли благослове́ння.

9 Not rendering591 evil2556 for evil,2556 or2228 railing3059 for railing:3059 but contrariwise5121 blessing;2129 knowing1492 that you are thereunto1519 5124 called,2564 that you should inherit2816 a blessing.2129

10 „Бо хто хоче любити життя та бачити добрі дні, нехай здержить свого язика́ від лихого та у́ста свої від гово́рення пі́дступу.

10 For he that will2309 love25 life,2222 and see1492 good18 days,2250 let him refrain3973 his tongue1100 from evil,2556 and his lips5491 that they speak2980 no3361 guile:1388

11 Ухиляйся від злого та добре чини, шукай миру й женися за ним!

11 Let him eschew1578 evil,2556 and do4160 good;18 let him seek2212 peace,1515 and ensue1377 it.

12 Бо очі Господні — до праведних, а ву́ха Його — до їхніх прохань, а Господнє лице проти тих, хто чинить лихе!“

12 For the eyes3788 of the Lord2962 are over1909 the righteous,1342 and his ears3775 are open to their prayers:1162 but the face4383 of the Lord2962 is against1909 them that do4160 evil.2556

13 І хто заподі́є вам зле, коли будете ви оборонцями доброго?

14 А коли ви за праведність і страждаєте, то ви блаженні! „А їхнього стра́ху не бійтеся, і не тривожтеся!“

15 А Господа Христа освятіть у ваших серцях, і за́вжди готовими будьте на відповідь кожному, хто в вас запитає рахунку про надію, що в вас, із ла́гідністю та зо стра́хом.

16 Майте добре сумління, щоб тим, за що́ вас обмовляють, немов би злочинців, були посоромлені лихосло́вники вашого пово́дження в Христі.

16 Having2192 a good18 conscience;4893 that, whereas1722 3759 they speak2635 evil2635 of you, as of evildoers,2555 they may be ashamed2617 that falsely accuse1908 your5216 good18 conversation391 in Christ.5547

17 Бо ліпше страждати за добрі діла, — коли хоче того Божа воля, — аніж за лихі.

17 For it is better,2909 if1487 the will2307 of God2316 be so, that you suffer3958 for well15 doing,15 than2228 for evil2554 doing.2554

18 Бо й Христос один раз постраждав був за наші гріхи, щоб приве́сти нас до Бога, Праведний за неправедних, хоч уме́ртвлений тілом, але Духом ожи́влений,
