Розділ 31

1 А филисти́мляни воювали з Ізраїлем. І побігли Ізраїлеві му́жі перед филисти́млянами, і падали трупами на горі Ґілбоа.

2 І догнали филисти́мляни Саула та його синів. І повбивали филисти́мляни Йонатана й Авінадава та Малкі-Шуя, Саулових синів.

3 І став бій тяжки́й для Саула, і його знайшли лу́чники, — він був дуже пора́нений тими лу́чниками.

4 І сказав Саул до свого зброєно́ші: „Витягни меча свого, і пробий мене ним, щоб не прийшли ці необрі́зані, і не пробили мене, і не знуща́лися надо мною!“ Та не хотів зброєно́ша, бо дуже боявся. Тоді взяв Саул меча, — та й упав на нього!

5 І побачив зброєноша, що помер Саул, і впав і він на свого меча, та й помер із ним.

6 І помер того дня Саул і троє синів його та зброєноша, також усі люди ра́зом.

7 А ізра́їльтяни, що мешкали на тім боці долини й на тім боці Йорда́ну, коли побачили, що повтікали ізра́їльтяни, і що померли Саул та сини його, поки́дали ті міста й повтікали, а филисти́мляни поприхо́дили й осілися в них.

8 І сталося другого дня, і прийшли филисти́мляни, щоб пообдирати трупи, — та й знайшли Саула та трьох синів його, що лежали на горі Ґілбоа.

9 І вони стяли йому го́лову, і поздира́ли збро́ю його, і послали в филистимські краї́ навко́ло, щоб сповістити в дома́х їхніх божкі́в та наро́дові.

10 І вони поклали зброю його в домі Аста́рти, а тіло його прибили на мурі Бет-Шану.

11 І почули ме́шканці ґілеадського Явешу про те, що́ филисти́мляни зробили Саулові,

12 і встали всі хоробрі, і йшли всю ніч, і взяли́ Саулове тіло та тіла синів його з муру Бет-Шану, і прийшли до Явешу, та й спалили їх там.

13 І взяли́ вони їхні кості, і поховали під тамари́ском в Явешу, та й по́стили сім день.

1 Now the Philistines6430 fought3898 against Israel:3478 and the men582 of Israel3478 fled5127 from before6440 the Philistines,6430 and fell5307 down slain2491 in mount2022 Gilboa.1533

2 And the Philistines6430 followed1692 hard1692 on Saul7586 and on his sons;1121 and the Philistines6430 slew5221 Jonathan,3083 and Abinadab,41 and Melchishua,4444 Saul's7586 sons.1121

3 And the battle4421 went sore3513 against413 Saul,7586 and the archers3384 hit4672 him; and he was sore3966 wounded2342 of the archers.3384

4 Then said559 Saul7586 to his armor bearer,5375 3627 Draw8025 your sword,2719 and thrust1856 me through therewith; lest6435 these428 uncircumcised6189 come935 and thrust1856 me through, and abuse5953 me. But his armor bearer5375 3627 would14 not; for he was sore3966 afraid.3372 Therefore Saul7586 took3947 a sword,2719 and fell5307 on it.

5 And when his armor bearer5375 3627 saw7200 that Saul7586 was dead,4191 he fell5307 likewise1571 on his sword,2719 and died4191 with him.

6 So Saul7586 died,4191 and his three7969 sons,1121 and his armor bearer,5375 3627 and all3605 his men,582 that same1931 day3117 together.3162

7 And when the men582 of Israel3478 that were on the other5676 side5676 of the valley,6010 and they that were on the other5676 side5676 Jordan,3383 saw7200 that the men582 of Israel3478 fled,5127 and that Saul7586 and his sons1121 were dead,4191 they forsook5800 the cities,5892 and fled;5127 and the Philistines6430 came935 and dwelled3427 in them.

8 And it came1961 to pass on the morrow,4283 when the Philistines6430 came935 to strip6584 the slain,2491 that they found4672 Saul7586 and his three7969 sons1121 fallen5307 in mount2022 Gilboa.1533

9 And they cut3772 off his head,7218 and stripped6584 off his armor,3627 and sent7971 into the land776 of the Philistines6430 round5439 about, to publish1319 it in the house1004 of their idols,6091 and among854 the people.5971

10 And they put7760 his armor3627 in the house1004 of Ashtaroth:6252 and they fastened8628 his body1472 to the wall2346 of Bethshan.1052

11 And when the inhabitants3427 of Jabeshgilead3003 1568 heard8085 of that which the Philistines6430 had done6213 to Saul;7586

12 All3605 the valiant2428 men376 arose,6965 and went3212 all3605 night,3915 and took3947 the body1472 of Saul7586 and the bodies1472 of his sons1121 from the wall2346 of Bethshan,1052 and came935 to Jabesh,3003 and burnt8313 them there.8033

13 And they took3947 their bones,6106 and buried6912 them under8478 a tree815 at Jabesh,3003 and fasted6684 seven7651 days.3117

6 І помер того дня Саул і троє синів його та зброєноша, також усі люди ра́зом.

6 So Saul7586 died,4191 and his three7969 sons,1121 and his armor bearer,5375 3627 and all3605 his men,582 that same1931 day3117 together.3162

7 А ізра́їльтяни, що мешкали на тім боці долини й на тім боці Йорда́ну, коли побачили, що повтікали ізра́їльтяни, і що померли Саул та сини його, поки́дали ті міста й повтікали, а филисти́мляни поприхо́дили й осілися в них.
