Chapter 7

1 THEN Elisha said, Hear the word of the LORD; thus says the LORD: Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.

2 Then the king's aide answered and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And Elisha said to him, Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.

3 Now there were four leprous men sitting at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, Why do we sit here until we die?

4 If we say, We will enter into the city, the famine is severe in the city, and we shall die there; and if we still sit here, we die also. Now therefore come and let us go to the camp of Aram; if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they put us to death, we shall but die.

5 So they rose up early in the twilight to go to the camp of Aram; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp, behold, there was no man there;

6 For the LORD had made the army of Aram hear the noise of horses and the noise of chariots and the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the king of the Egyptians and the king of the Hittites to come upon us.

7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their asses, even their camp as it was, and they fled for their lives.

8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank and took from there silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid it; then they came again and entered into another tent and carried booty from there also and went and hid it.

9 Then they said one to another, We are not doing right; this day is a day of good tidings, and how long shall we remain silent? If we wait until the morning light, some mischief will come upon us; now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household.

10 So they came and called to the doorkeepers of the city; and they told them, saying, We went to the camp of Aram, and behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied and asses tied and tents as they were.

11 And the doorkeepers called out and told it to the king's household within.

12 And the king arose in the night and said to his servants, I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall capture them alive and then get into the city.

13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some horsemen take five of the horses that remain; if they are captured, let them be considered a loss like all the army of Israel that has perished; therefore let us send and see.

14 So two couples of horsemen mounted, and the king sent them after the army of Aram, saying, Go and see.

15 And they went after them as far as the Jordan; and, lo, all the road was full of garments and vessels which the Arameans had left behind in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

16 And the people went out and plundered the camp of Aram. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17 And the king placed his aide in charge of the gate; and the people trod upon him at the gate and he died, as the prophet of God had said when he came down as a messenger to him.

18 And it came to pass as the prophet of God had foretold to the king, saying, A measure of fine flour for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel shall be sold tomorrow at this time in the gate of Samaria.

19 But that mighty man had answered the prophet of God and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And the prophet had said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.

20 And so it happened to him; for the people trod upon him in the gate and he died.

Chapter 7

1 Then Elisha477 said,559 Hear8085 you the word1697 of the LORD;3068 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 To morrow4279 about this time6256 shall a measure5429 of fine flour5560 be sold for a shekel,8255 and two measures5429 of barley8184 for a shekel,8255 in the gate8179 of Samaria.8111

2 Then a lord7991 on5921 whose834 hand3027 the king4428 leaned8172 answered6030 the man376 of God,430 and said,559 Behold,2009 if the LORD3068 would make6213 windows699 in heaven,8064 might this2088 thing1697 be? And he said,559 Behold,2009 you shall see7200 it with your eyes,5869 but shall not eat398 thereof.

3 And there were four702 leprous6879 men582 at the entering6607 in of the gate:8179 and they said559 one376 to another,7453 Why4100 sit3427 we here6311 until5704 we die?4191

4 If518 we say,559 We will enter935 into the city,5892 then the famine7458 is in the city,5892 and we shall die4191 there:8033 and if518 we sit3427 still here,6311 we die4191 also. Now6258 therefore come,3212 and let us fall5307 to the host4264 of the Syrians:758 if518 they save2421 us alive,2421 we shall live;2421 and if518 they kill4191 us, we shall but die.4191

5 And they rose6965 up in the twilight,5399 to go935 to the camp4264 of the Syrians:758 and when they were come935 to the uttermost7097 part of the camp4264 of Syria,758 behold,2009 there was no369 man376 there.8033

6 For the LORD136 had made the host4264 of the Syrians758 to hear8085 a noise6963 of chariots,7393 and a noise6963 of horses,5483 even the noise6963 of a great1419 host:2428 and they said559 one376 to another,251 See,2009 the king4428 of Israel3478 has hired7936 against5921 us the kings4428 of the Hittites,2850 and the kings4428 of the Egyptians,4714 to come935 on us.

7 Why they arose6965 and fled5127 in the twilight,5399 and left5800 their tents,168 and their horses,5483 and their asses,2543 even the camp4264 as it was, and fled5127 for their life.5315

8 And when these428 lepers6879 came935 to the uttermost7097 part of the camp,4264 they went935 into413 one259 tent,168 and did eat398 and drink,8354 and carried5375 there8033 silver,3701 and gold,2091 and raiment,899 and went935 and hid2934 it; and came7725 again,7725 and entered935 into413 another312 tent,168 and carried5375 there8033 also, and went3212 and hid2934 it.

9 Then they said559 one376 to another,7453 We do6213 not well:3651 this1931 day3117 is a day3117 of good tidings,1309 and we hold2814 our peace:2814 if we tarry2442 till5704 the morning1242 light,216 some mischief5771 will come4672 on us: now6258 therefore come,3212 that we may go935 and tell5046 the king's4428 household.1004

10 So they came935 and called7121 to the porter7778 of the city:5892 and they told5046 them, saying,559 We came935 to the camp4264 of the Syrians,758 and, behold,2009 there was no369 man376 there,8033 neither369 voice6963 of man,120 but horses5483 tied,631 and asses2543 tied,631 and the tents168 as they were.

11 And he called7121 the porters;7778 and they told5046 it to the king's4428 house1004 within.6441

12 And the king4428 arose6965 in the night,3915 and said559 to his servants,5650 I will now4994 show5046 you what853 834 the Syrians758 have done6213 to us. They know3045 that we be hungry;7456 therefore are they gone3318 out of the camp4264 to hide2247 themselves in the field,7704 saying,559 When3588 they come3318 out of the city,5892 we shall catch8610 them alive,2416 and get935 into413 the city.

13 And one259 of his servants5650 answered6030 and said,559 Let some take,3947 I pray4994 you, five2568 of the horses5483 that remain,7604 which834 are left7604 in the city,5892 (behold,2009 they are as all3605 the multitude1995 of Israel3478 that are left7604 in it: behold,2009 I say, they are even as all3605 the multitude1995 of the Israelites3478 that are consumed:8552) and let us send7971 and see.7200

14 They took3947 therefore two8147 chariot7393 horses;5483 and the king4428 sent7971 after310 the host4264 of the Syrians,758 saying,559 Go3212 and see.7200

15 And they went3212 after310 them to Jordan:3383 and, see,2009 all3605 the way1870 was full4392 of garments899 and vessels,3627 which834 the Syrians758 had cast7993 away in their haste.2648 And the messengers4397 returned,7725 and told5046 the king.4428

16 And the people5971 went3318 out, and spoiled962 the tents4264 of the Syrians.758 So a measure5429 of fine flour5560 was sold for a shekel,8255 and two measures5429 of barley8184 for a shekel,8255 according to the word1697 of the LORD.3068

17 And the king4428 appointed6485 the lord7991 on5921 whose834 hand3027 he leaned8172 to have the charge5921 of the gate:8179 and the people5971 stepped7429 on him in the gate,8179 and he died,4191 as the man376 of God430 had said,1696 who834 spoke1696 when the king4428 came3381 down3381 to him.

18 And it came1961 to pass as the man376 of God430 had spoken1696 to the king,4428 saying,559 Two measures5429 of barley8184 for a shekel,8255 and a measure5429 of fine flour5560 for a shekel,8255 shall be to morrow4279 about this time6256 in the gate8179 of Samaria:8111

19 And that lord7991 answered6030 the man376 of God,430 and said,559 Now, behold,2009 if the LORD3068 should make6213 windows699 in heaven,8064 might such2088 a thing1697 be? And he said,559 Behold,2009 you shall see7200 it with your eyes,5869 but shall not eat398 thereof.

20 And so3651 it fell1961 out to him: for the people5971 stepped7429 on him in the gate,8179 and he died.4191

Chapter 7

1 THEN Elisha said, Hear the word of the LORD; thus says the LORD: Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.

2 Then the king's aide answered and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And Elisha said to him, Behold, you will see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.

3 Now there were four leprous men sitting at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, Why do we sit here until we die?

3 And there were four702 leprous6879 men582 at the entering6607 in of the gate:8179 and they said559 one376 to another,7453 Why4100 sit3427 we here6311 until5704 we die?4191

4 If we say, We will enter into the city, the famine is severe in the city, and we shall die there; and if we still sit here, we die also. Now therefore come and let us go to the camp of Aram; if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they put us to death, we shall but die.

5 So they rose up early in the twilight to go to the camp of Aram; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp, behold, there was no man there;

5 And they rose6965 up in the twilight,5399 to go935 to the camp4264 of the Syrians:758 and when they were come935 to the uttermost7097 part of the camp4264 of Syria,758 behold,2009 there was no369 man376 there.8033

6 For the LORD had made the army of Aram hear the noise of horses and the noise of chariots and the noise of a great army; and they said to one another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the king of the Egyptians and the king of the Hittites to come upon us.

7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, their horses, and their asses, even their camp as it was, and they fled for their lives.

7 Why they arose6965 and fled5127 in the twilight,5399 and left5800 their tents,168 and their horses,5483 and their asses,2543 even the camp4264 as it was, and fled5127 for their life.5315

8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank and took from there silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid it; then they came again and entered into another tent and carried booty from there also and went and hid it.

9 Then they said one to another, We are not doing right; this day is a day of good tidings, and how long shall we remain silent? If we wait until the morning light, some mischief will come upon us; now therefore come, let us go and tell the king's household.

10 So they came and called to the doorkeepers of the city; and they told them, saying, We went to the camp of Aram, and behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied and asses tied and tents as they were.

11 And the doorkeepers called out and told it to the king's household within.

11 And he called7121 the porters;7778 and they told5046 it to the king's4428 house1004 within.6441

12 And the king arose in the night and said to his servants, I will now tell you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall capture them alive and then get into the city.

13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some horsemen take five of the horses that remain; if they are captured, let them be considered a loss like all the army of Israel that has perished; therefore let us send and see.

14 So two couples of horsemen mounted, and the king sent them after the army of Aram, saying, Go and see.

14 They took3947 therefore two8147 chariot7393 horses;5483 and the king4428 sent7971 after310 the host4264 of the Syrians,758 saying,559 Go3212 and see.7200

15 And they went after them as far as the Jordan; and, lo, all the road was full of garments and vessels which the Arameans had left behind in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

16 And the people went out and plundered the camp of Aram. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.

17 And the king placed his aide in charge of the gate; and the people trod upon him at the gate and he died, as the prophet of God had said when he came down as a messenger to him.

18 And it came to pass as the prophet of God had foretold to the king, saying, A measure of fine flour for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel shall be sold tomorrow at this time in the gate of Samaria.

19 But that mighty man had answered the prophet of God and said, If the LORD should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? And the prophet had said, Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.

20 And so it happened to him; for the people trod upon him in the gate and he died.

20 And so3651 it fell1961 out to him: for the people5971 stepped7429 on him in the gate,8179 and he died.4191
