Книга Эсфири

Глава 2

1 Некоторое время спустя, когда гнев царя Ксеркса утих, он вспомнил об Астини — о ее поступке и о вынесенном ей приговоре.

2 Прислуживавшие царю придворные сказали ему: «Пусть поищут для царя красивых непорочных девушек.

3 А царь пусть назначит в каждую область своего царства должностных лиц, которые соберут всех красивых непорочных девушек в крепость Сузы, на женскую половину дворца под надзор царедворца Хегая, стража жен. Пусть им выдадут благовонные мази.

4 И та из дев, которая понравится царю, станет царицей вместо Астини». Эти слова понравились царю, так он и поступил.

5 В то время жил в крепости Сузы иудей по имени Мардохей, сын Яира, внук Шими, правнук Киша, вениаминитянин:

6 его выселили из Иерусалима вместе с теми, кого вавилонский царь Навуходоносор увел в плен, захватив царя иудейского Иехонию.

7 У Мардохея была на воспитании его двоюродная сестра Хадасса, она же Эсфирь, круглая сирота, — после смерти родителей он растил ее как свою дочь. Девушка была стройна и красива.

8 Когда было объявлено царское повеление, царский указ, собрали в крепость Сузы много девушек под надзор Хегая; тогда и Эсфирь была взята в царский дворец под надзор Хегая, стража жен.

9 Девушка приглянулась ему и снискала его расположение. Он тут же выдал ей благовонные мази и всё положенное ей и приставил к ней семь лучших служанок из царского дворца. Хегай переселил ее с этими служанками в лучшие покои гарема.

10 Эсфирь же не говорила никому ни о народе своем, ни о родне своей, ведь Мардохей не велел ей о том рассказывать.

11 Сам Мардохей изо дня в день приходил ко двору гарема, чтобы справиться о благополучии Эсфири и о том, что с ней происходит.

12 Девушки входили к царю Ксерксу, каждая в свой черед, а перед тем каждая из них двенадцать месяцев готовила себя, как предписано царским женам: шесть месяцев натиралась мирровым маслом и шесть месяцев — женскими благовониями и мазями.

13 После этого девушка шла к царю, и ей давали всё, что бы она ни пожелала взять с собой из гарема в царский дворец.

14 Вечером она приходила к царю, а утром отправлялась в другую часть гарема под надзор царедворца Шаашгаза, стража наложниц, и более уже не входила к царю. Но если она понравилась царю, он мог позвать ее снова, назвав ее имя.

15 Когда настал черед Эсфири (дочери Авихаиля, дяди Мардохея, который растил ее как дочь) идти к царю, она ничего не просила сверх того, что предложил ей царедворец Хегай, страж жен. Кто ни видел Эсфирь — чувствовал к ней расположение.

16 В десятом месяце (месяце тевете) седьмого года правления царя Ксеркса Эсфирь была отведена к нему, на царскую половину дворца.

17 И Эсфирь полюбилась царю более прочих жен. Она снискала его благоволение и расположение больше, чем все другие девушки, и он возложил ей на голову царский венец и сделал царицей вместо Астини.

18 И устроил царь великий пир в честь Эсфири — пир для всей своей знати и вельмож. Объявил он праздничные дни и по областям, раздавая дары с царской щедростью.

19 Когда во второй раз стали собирать девушек, Мардохей как раз сидел у царских ворот.

20 (Эсфирь тогда еще не говорила о родне своей и о народе своем, как повелел ей Мардохей, ведь Эсфирь продолжала исполнять повеления Мардохея, как и прежде, когда была у него на воспитании.)

21 Как раз в те дни, когда Мардохей сидел у царских ворот, Бигтан и Тереш, два царедворца, стороживших вход во дворец, по злобе своей задумали убийство Ксеркса.

22 Мардохею стало известно об этом, и он сообщил царице Эсфири, а та, по поручению Мардохея, всё рассказала царю.

23 Дело расследовали, заговор раскрыли, и обоих заговорщиков казнили, а их тела повесили на деревянном столбе. И было это записано в летописи в присутствии царя.

Chapter 2

1 AFTER these things, when the wrath of King Akhshirash was appeased, he remembered Vashti the queen and what she had done and what was decreed against her.

2 Then the king's servants and his ministers said to him, Let there be beautiful young virgins sought for the king;

3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the house of the women, to the custody of Hegai the eunuch, keeper of women; and let their things for purification be given them;

4 And let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

5 Now there was a certain Jew in Shushan the palace, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter; for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother died, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.

8 So when the king's commandment and his decree were heard, and when many virgins were gathered together in Shushan the palace in the custody of Hegai, the eunuch, that Esther was brought also to the king's house to the custody of Hegai, the keeper of the women.

9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained favor of him; and he speedily gave her things for purification, such things which were her portion, and seven maidens who were worthy to be given her from the king's house; and he preferred her and her maidens much more than all the other women.

10 Esther had not made known her people nor her kindred; for Mordecai had charged her that she should not make it known.

11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house to learn how Esther did and what should become of her.

12 Now when the turn of each maiden was come to go in before King Akhshirash, after she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, every six days with oil of myrrh and every six days with spices and with other things for the purifying of the women);

13 Then thus came every maiden before the king; whatever she de sired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women to the king's house.

14 In the evening she went in, and in the morning she returned to the house of the women to the custody of Shangashgeshir the king's eunuch, the keeper of the concubines; she did not come in to the king unless the king delighted in her and she was called by name.

15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in before the king, she asked for nothing but what Hegai the king's eunuch, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who saw her.

16 So Esther entered before King Akhshirash into his royal house in the tenth month, that is, January, in the fourth year of his reign.

17 And the king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the other virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

18 Then the king made a great feast to all his princes, even Esther's feast; and he granted relief to the provinces and gave gifts, according to the generosity of the king.

19 And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting in the king's gate.

20 But Esther had not yet made known her kindred nor her people, as Mordecai had charged her; for Esther obeyed the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was faith fully brought up with him.

21 In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, two of the king's eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, of those who kept the door, were wroth and sought to lay hands on King Akhshirash.

22 And the thing became known to Mordecai, who told it to Esther the queen; and Esther told the king in Mordecai's name.

23 And when the matter was investigated and found to be so, they were both nailed on crosses, and it was written in the book of chronicles be fore the king.

1 AFTER these things, when the wrath of King Akhshirash was appeased, he remembered Vashti the queen and what she had done and what was decreed against her.

2 Прислуживавшие царю придворные сказали ему: «Пусть поищут для царя красивых непорочных девушек.

2 Then the king's servants and his ministers said to him, Let there be beautiful young virgins sought for the king;

3 А царь пусть назначит в каждую область своего царства должностных лиц, которые соберут всех красивых непорочных девушек в крепость Сузы, на женскую половину дворца под надзор царедворца Хегая, стража жен. Пусть им выдадут благовонные мази.

3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the house of the women, to the custody of Hegai the eunuch, keeper of women; and let their things for purification be given them;

4 И та из дев, которая понравится царю, станет царицей вместо Астини». Эти слова понравились царю, так он и поступил.

4 And let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.

5 В то время жил в крепости Сузы иудей по имени Мардохей, сын Яира, внук Шими, правнук Киша, вениаминитянин:

5 Now there was a certain Jew in Shushan the palace, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;

6 его выселили из Иерусалима вместе с теми, кого вавилонский царь Навуходоносор увел в плен, захватив царя иудейского Иехонию.

6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.

7 У Мардохея была на воспитании его двоюродная сестра Хадасса, она же Эсфирь, круглая сирота, — после смерти родителей он растил ее как свою дочь. Девушка была стройна и красива.

7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, his uncle's daughter; for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother died, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.

8 Когда было объявлено царское повеление, царский указ, собрали в крепость Сузы много девушек под надзор Хегая; тогда и Эсфирь была взята в царский дворец под надзор Хегая, стража жен.

8 So when the king's commandment and his decree were heard, and when many virgins were gathered together in Shushan the palace in the custody of Hegai, the eunuch, that Esther was brought also to the king's house to the custody of Hegai, the keeper of the women.

9 Девушка приглянулась ему и снискала его расположение. Он тут же выдал ей благовонные мази и всё положенное ей и приставил к ней семь лучших служанок из царского дворца. Хегай переселил ее с этими служанками в лучшие покои гарема.

9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained favor of him; and he speedily gave her things for purification, such things which were her portion, and seven maidens who were worthy to be given her from the king's house; and he preferred her and her maidens much more than all the other women.

10 Эсфирь же не говорила никому ни о народе своем, ни о родне своей, ведь Мардохей не велел ей о том рассказывать.

10 Esther had not made known her people nor her kindred; for Mordecai had charged her that she should not make it known.

11 Сам Мардохей изо дня в день приходил ко двору гарема, чтобы справиться о благополучии Эсфири и о том, что с ней происходит.

11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house to learn how Esther did and what should become of her.

12 Девушки входили к царю Ксерксу, каждая в свой черед, а перед тем каждая из них двенадцать месяцев готовила себя, как предписано царским женам: шесть месяцев натиралась мирровым маслом и шесть месяцев — женскими благовониями и мазями.

12 Now when the turn of each maiden was come to go in before King Akhshirash, after she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, every six days with oil of myrrh and every six days with spices and with other things for the purifying of the women);

13 После этого девушка шла к царю, и ей давали всё, что бы она ни пожелала взять с собой из гарема в царский дворец.

13 Then thus came every maiden before the king; whatever she de sired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women to the king's house.

14 Вечером она приходила к царю, а утром отправлялась в другую часть гарема под надзор царедворца Шаашгаза, стража наложниц, и более уже не входила к царю. Но если она понравилась царю, он мог позвать ее снова, назвав ее имя.

14 In the evening she went in, and in the morning she returned to the house of the women to the custody of Shangashgeshir the king's eunuch, the keeper of the concubines; she did not come in to the king unless the king delighted in her and she was called by name.

15 Когда настал черед Эсфири (дочери Авихаиля, дяди Мардохея, который растил ее как дочь) идти к царю, она ничего не просила сверх того, что предложил ей царедворец Хегай, страж жен. Кто ни видел Эсфирь — чувствовал к ней расположение.

15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in before the king, she asked for nothing but what Hegai the king's eunuch, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who saw her.

16 В десятом месяце (месяце тевете) седьмого года правления царя Ксеркса Эсфирь была отведена к нему, на царскую половину дворца.

16 So Esther entered before King Akhshirash into his royal house in the tenth month, that is, January, in the fourth year of his reign.

17 И Эсфирь полюбилась царю более прочих жен. Она снискала его благоволение и расположение больше, чем все другие девушки, и он возложил ей на голову царский венец и сделал царицей вместо Астини.

17 And the king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the other virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

18 И устроил царь великий пир в честь Эсфири — пир для всей своей знати и вельмож. Объявил он праздничные дни и по областям, раздавая дары с царской щедростью.

18 Then the king made a great feast to all his princes, even Esther's feast; and he granted relief to the provinces and gave gifts, according to the generosity of the king.

19 Когда во второй раз стали собирать девушек, Мардохей как раз сидел у царских ворот.

19 And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting in the king's gate.

20 (Эсфирь тогда еще не говорила о родне своей и о народе своем, как повелел ей Мардохей, ведь Эсфирь продолжала исполнять повеления Мардохея, как и прежде, когда была у него на воспитании.)

20 But Esther had not yet made known her kindred nor her people, as Mordecai had charged her; for Esther obeyed the commandment of Mordecai, like as when she was faith fully brought up with him.

21 Как раз в те дни, когда Мардохей сидел у царских ворот, Бигтан и Тереш, два царедворца, стороживших вход во дворец, по злобе своей задумали убийство Ксеркса.

21 In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the king's gate, two of the king's eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, of those who kept the door, were wroth and sought to lay hands on King Akhshirash.

22 Мардохею стало известно об этом, и он сообщил царице Эсфири, а та, по поручению Мардохея, всё рассказала царю.

22 And the thing became known to Mordecai, who told it to Esther the queen; and Esther told the king in Mordecai's name.
