Розділ 4

1 І було це для Йони на доса́ду, досаду велику, і він запали́вся.

2 І молився він до Господа та й казав: „О Господи, чи ж не це моє слово, поки я ще був на своїй землі? Тому́ я перед тим утік до Таршішу, бо я знав, що Ти Бог милости́вий та милосердий, довготерпели́вий та многомилости́вий, і Ти жалку́єш за зло.

3 А тепер, Господи, візьми мою душу від мене, бо краще мені смерть від мого́ життя!“

4 А Господь відказав: „Чи слушно ти запали́вся?“

5 І вийшов Йона з міста, і сів від сходу міста, і поставив собі там куреня́, і сів під ним у тіні, аж поки побачить, що́ буде в місті.

6 І ви́ростив Бог рици́нового куща, і він вигнався понад Йону, щоб бути тінню над його головою, щоб урятувати його від його доса́ди. І втішився Йона від цього рици́нового куща́ великою радістю.

7 А при сході зірни́ці другого дня призна́чив Бог червяка́, і він підточив рици́нового куща́, і той усох.

8 І сталося, як сонце зійшло, то призна́чив Бог схі́днього гарячого вітра, — і вдарило сонце на Йо́нину го́лову, — і він зомлів. І він жадав, щоб йому померти, і казав: „Краще мені смерть від мого́ життя!“

9 І промовив Бог до Йони: „Чи слушно запали́вся ти за рици́новий кущ?“ А той відказав: „Ду́же розлю́тився я, — аж на смерть!“

10 І сказав Госпо́дь: „Ти змилувався над рици́новим куще́м, над яким не трудився, і не пле́кав його, який виріс за одну ніч, і за одну ніч згинув.

11 А Я не змилувався б над Ніневі́єю, — цим великим містом, що в ньому більше дванадцяти́ десятисячок люда, які не вміють розрізняти прави́ці своєї від свое́ї ліви́ці, та числе́нна худоба?“

Chapter 4

1 But it displeased7489 5869 Jonah3124 exceedingly,1419 and he was very angry.2734

2 And he prayed6419 to the LORD,3068 and said,559 I pray577 you, O LORD,3068 was not this2088 my saying,1697 when5704 I was yet5704 in my country?127 Therefore5921 3651 I fled1272 before6924 to Tarshish:8659 for I knew3045 that you are a gracious2587 God,410 and merciful,7349 slow750 to anger,639 and of great7227 kindness,2617 and repent5162 you of the evil.7451

3 Therefore now,6258 O LORD,3068 take,3947 I beseech4994 you, my life5315 from me; for it is better2896 for me to die4194 than to live.2416

4 Then said559 the LORD,3068 Do you well3190 to be angry?2734

5 So Jonah3124 went3318 out of the city,5892 and sat3427 on the east6924 side6924 of the city,5892 and there8033 made6213 him a booth,5521 and sat3427 under8478 it in the shadow,6738 till5704 he might see7200 what4100 would become1961 of the city.5892

6 And the LORD3068 God430 prepared4487 a gourd,7021 and made it to come5927 up over5921 Jonah,3124 that it might be a shadow6738 over5921 his head,7218 to deliver5337 him from his grief.7451 So Jonah3124 was exceeding1419 glad8056 of the gourd.7021

7 But God430 prepared4487 a worm8438 when the morning7837 rose5927 the next4283 day,4283 and it smote5221 the gourd7021 that it withered.3001

8 And it came1961 to pass, when the sun8121 did arise,2224 that God430 prepared4487 a vehement2759 east6921 wind;7307 and the sun8121 beat5221 on the head7218 of Jonah,3124 that he fainted,5968 and wished7592 in himself to die,4191 and said,559 It is better2896 for me to die4191 than to live.2416

9 And God430 said559 to Jonah,3124 Do you well3190 to be angry2734 for the gourd?7021 And he said,559 I do well3190 to be angry,2734 even to death.4194

10 Then said559 the LORD,3068 You have had pity2347 on5921 the gourd,7021 for the which834 you have not labored,5998 neither3808 made it grow;1431 which came1961 up in a night,3915 and perished6 in a night:3915

11 And should not I spare2347 Nineveh,5210 that great1419 city,5892 wherein are more7227 then six score8147 thousand7239 persons120 that cannot3808 discern3045 between996 their right3225 hand3225 and their left8040 hand;8040 and also much7227 cattle?929

1 І було це для Йони на доса́ду, досаду велику, і він запали́вся.

7 А при сході зірни́ці другого дня призна́чив Бог червяка́, і він підточив рици́нового куща́, і той усох.

9 І промовив Бог до Йони: „Чи слушно запали́вся ти за рици́новий кущ?“ А той відказав: „Ду́же розлю́тився я, — аж на смерть!“

10 І сказав Госпо́дь: „Ти змилувався над рици́новим куще́м, над яким не трудився, і не пле́кав його, який виріс за одну ніч, і за одну ніч згинув.

10 Then said559 the LORD,3068 You have had pity2347 on5921 the gourd,7021 for the which834 you have not labored,5998 neither3808 made it grow;1431 which came1961 up in a night,3915 and perished6 in a night:3915

11 А Я не змилувався б над Ніневі́єю, — цим великим містом, що в ньому більше дванадцяти́ десятисячок люда, які не вміють розрізняти прави́ці своєї від свое́ї ліви́ці, та числе́нна худоба?“

11 And should not I spare2347 Nineveh,5210 that great1419 city,5892 wherein are more7227 then six score8147 thousand7239 persons120 that cannot3808 discern3045 between996 their right3225 hand3225 and their left8040 hand;8040 and also much7227 cattle?929
