Jeremiah

Chapter 44

1 The word1697 that came1961 to Jeremiah3414 concerning413 all3605 the Jews3064 which dwell3427 in the land776 of Egypt,4714 which dwell3427 at Migdol,4024 and at Tahpanhes,8471 and at Noph,5297 and in the country776 of Pathros,6624 saying,559

2 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 You have seen7200 all3605 the evil7451 that I have brought935 on Jerusalem,3389 and on all3605 the cities5892 of Judah;3063 and, behold,2009 this2088 day3117 they are a desolation,2723 and no369 man dwells3427 therein,

3 Because6440 of their wickedness7451 which834 they have committed6213 to provoke me to anger,3707 in that they went3212 to burn6999 incense,6999 and to serve5647 other312 gods,430 whom834 they knew3045 not, neither they, you, nor your fathers.1

4 However, I sent7971 to you all3605 my servants5650 the prophets,5030 rising7925 early7925 and sending7971 them, saying,559 Oh,4994 do6213 not this2088 abominable8441 thing1697 that I hate.8130

5 But they listened8085 not, nor3808 inclined5186 their ear241 to turn7725 from their wickedness,7451 to burn6999 no1115 incense6999 to other312 gods.430

6 Why my fury2534 and my anger639 was poured5413 forth, and was kindled1197 in the cities5892 of Judah3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem;3389 and they are wasted2723 and desolate,8077 as at this2088 day.3117

7 Therefore now6258 thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 the God430 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 Why4100 commit6213 you this great1419 evil7451 against413 your souls,5315 to cut3772 off from you man376 and woman,802 child5768 and suckling,3243 out of Judah,3063 to leave3498 you none1115 to remain;7611

8 In that you provoke me to wrath3707 with the works4639 of your hands,3027 burning6999 incense6999 to other312 gods430 in the land776 of Egypt,4714 where834 8033 you be gone935 to dwell,1481 that you might cut3772 yourselves off, and that you might be a curse7045 and a reproach2781 among all3605 the nations1471 of the earth?776

9 Have you forgotten7911 the wickedness7451 of your fathers,1 and the wickedness7451 of the kings4428 of Judah,3063 and the wickedness7451 of their wives,802 and your own wickedness,7451 and the wickedness7451 of your wives,802 which834 they have committed6213 in the land776 of Judah,3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem?3389

10 They are not humbled1792 even to this2088 day,3117 neither3808 have they feared,3372 nor3808 walked1980 in my law,8451 nor in my statutes,2708 that I set5414 before6440 you and before6440 your fathers.1

11 Therefore3651 thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 Behold,2005 I will set7760 my face6440 against you for evil,7451 and to cut3772 off all3605 Judah.3063

12 And I will take3947 the remnant7611 of Judah,3063 that have set7760 their faces6440 to go935 into the land776 of Egypt4714 to sojourn1481 there,8033 and they shall all3605 be consumed,8552 and fall5307 in the land776 of Egypt;4714 they shall even be consumed8552 by the sword2719 and by the famine:7458 they shall die,4191 from the least6996 even to the greatest,1419 by the sword2719 and by the famine:7458 and they shall be an execration,423 and an astonishment,8047 and a curse,7045 and a reproach.2781

13 For I will punish6485 them that dwell3427 in the land776 of Egypt,4714 as I have punished6485 Jerusalem,3389 by the sword,2719 by the famine,7458 and by the pestilence:1698

14 So that none3808 of the remnant7611 of Judah,3063 which are gone935 into the land776 of Egypt4714 to sojourn1481 there,8033 shall escape6412 or remain,8300 that they should return7725 into the land776 of Judah,3063 to the which834 they have5375 a desire5375 5315 to return7725 to dwell3427 there:8033 for none3808 shall return7725 but such as shall escape.6412

15 Then all3605 the men582 which knew3045 that their wives802 had burned6999 incense6999 to other312 gods,430 and all3605 the women802 that stood5975 by, a great1419 multitude,6951 even all3605 the people5971 that dwelled3427 in the land776 of Egypt,4714 in Pathros,6624 answered6030 Jeremiah,3414 saying,559

16 As for the word1697 that you have spoken1696 to us in the name8034 of the LORD,3068 we will not listen8085 to you.

17 But we will certainly do6213 whatever853 3605 thing1697 goes3318 forth3318 out of our own mouth,6310 to burn6999 incense6999 to the queen4446 of heaven,8064 and to pour5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, as we have done,6213 we, and our fathers,1 our kings,4428 and our princes,8269 in the cities5892 of Judah,3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem:3389 for then had1961 we plenty7646 of victuals,3899 and were well,2896 and saw7200 no3808 evil.7451

18 But since4480 227 we left2308 off to burn6999 incense6999 to the queen4446 of heaven,8064 and to pour5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, we have wanted2637 all3605 things, and have been consumed8552 by the sword2719 and by the famine.7458

19 And when3588 we burned6999 incense6999 to the queen4446 of heaven,8064 and poured5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, did we make6213 her cakes3561 to worship6087 her, and pour5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, without1107 our men?582

20 Then Jeremiah3414 said559 to all3605 the people,5971 to the men,1397 and to the women,802 and to all3605 the people5971 which had given him that answer,6030 saying,559

21 The incense7002 that you burned6999 in the cities5892 of Judah,3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem,3389 you, and your fathers,1 your kings,4428 and your princes,8269 and the people5971 of the land,776 did not the LORD3068 remember2142 them, and came5927 it not into5921 his mind?3820

22 So that the LORD3068 could3201 no3808 longer5750 bear,5375 because6440 of the evil7455 of your doings,4611 and because6440 of the abominations8441 which834 you have committed;6213 therefore is your land776 a desolation,2723 and an astonishment,8047 and a curse,7045 without369 an inhabitant,3427 as at this2088 day.3117

23 Because6440 834 you have burned6999 incense,6999 and because834 you have sinned2398 against the LORD,3068 and have not obeyed8085 the voice6963 of the LORD,3068 nor3808 walked1980 in his law,8451 nor in his statutes,2708 nor in his testimonies;5715 therefore5921 3652 this2063 evil7451 is happened7122 to you, as at this2088 day.3117

24 Moreover Jeremiah3414 said559 to all3605 the people,5971 and to all3605 the women,802 Hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 all3605 Judah3063 that are in the land776 of Egypt:4714

25 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel,3478 saying;559 You and your wives802 have both spoken1696 with your mouths,6310 and fulfilled4390 with your hand,3027 saying,559 We will surely perform6213 our vows5088 that we have vowed,5087 to burn6999 incense6999 to the queen4446 of heaven,8064 and to pour5258 out drink5262 offerings to her: you will surely accomplish6965 your vows,5088 and surely perform6213 your vows.5088

26 Therefore3651 hear8085 you the word1697 of the LORD,3068 all3605 Judah3063 that dwell3427 in the land776 of Egypt;4714 Behold,2005 I have sworn7650 by my great1419 name,8034 said559 the LORD,3068 that my name8034 shall no518 more5750 be named7121 in the mouth6310 of any3605 man376 of Judah3063 in all3605 the land776 of Egypt,4714 saying,559 The Lord136 GOD3069 lives.2416

27 Behold,2005 I will watch8245 over5921 them for evil,7451 and not for good:2896 and all3605 the men376 of Judah3063 that are in the land776 of Egypt4714 shall be consumed8552 by the sword2719 and by the famine,7458 until5704 there be an end3615 of them.

28 Yet a small4962 number4557 that escape6412 the sword2719 shall return7725 out of the land776 of Egypt4714 into the land776 of Judah,3063 and all3605 the remnant7611 of Judah,3063 that are gone935 into the land776 of Egypt4714 to sojourn1481 there,8033 shall know3045 whose4310 words1697 shall stand,6965 mine, or their's.1992

29 And this2063 shall be a sign226 to you, said5002 the LORD,3068 that I will punish6485 you in this2088 place,4725 that you may know3045 that my words1697 shall surely stand6965 against5921 you for evil:7451

30 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 Behold,2005 I will give5414 Pharaohhophra6548 king4428 of Egypt4714 into the hand3027 of his enemies,341 and into the hand3027 of them that seek1245 his life;5315 as I gave5414 Zedekiah6667 king4428 of Judah3063 into the hand3027 of Nebuchadrezzar5019 king4428 of Babylon,894 his enemy,341 and that sought1245 his life.5315

Jeremiah

Chapter 44

1 THE word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD to prophesy concerning all the Jews who dwell in the land of Egypt: those who dwell at Migdol and at Tahpanhes and at Memphis and in the land of Pathros, saying,

2 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the calamity that I have brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are desolate, and no man dwells in them

3 Because of the wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went and burned incense to other gods, whom they knew not, neither they nor their fathers.

4 And I sent to them all my servants the prophets, in advance, saying. Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.

5 But they did not hearken nor incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

6 Therefore my fury and my anger were poured forth and a fire was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they became a desolation and an astonishment, as they are today.

7 And now thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, the young and the little one out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;

8 And thus have provoked me to anger with the works of your hands, and have burned incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have come to dwell, so that I may destroy you, and you shall become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

9 Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and the wickedness of the kings of Judah and the wickedness of their wives which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

10 They have not cleansed themselves even to this day, neither have they feared nor have they served me nor walked in my law nor in my statutes which I set before them and before their fathers.

11 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil to destroy the whole house of Judah.

12 And I will crush the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to enter into the land of Egypt to live there, and they shall all be consumed in the land of Egypt; they shall die by sword and by famine and by pestilence; and they shall be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach.

13 For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence;

14 So that none of the remnant of Judah, who are gone into the land of Egypt to live there shall escape or remain that they may return to the land of Judah to which they hope to return to dwell there; and only a few shall return.

15 Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods and all the women who stood by, a great multitude, and all the people who dwelt in the land of Egypt and in Pathros answered Jeremiah, saying,

16 As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you.

17 But we will certainly do every word that has gone forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well and saw no evil.

18 But since we left off burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her we have lacked everything and have been consumed by sword and by famine.

19 And all the women said, When we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, it was not without our husbands' consent; nor without their knowledge did we make cakes for her and pour out drink offerings to her.

20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, to the men and to the women and to all the people who had given him that answer, saying,

21 The incense that you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes and the people of the land, it was that incense that the LORD has remembered, and it has come into his mind.

22 So that the LORD could no longer forgive you because of your evil doings and because of the abomination which you have committed; therefore your land has become an astonishment and a curse and a desolation without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

23 It is because you have burned incense and because: you have sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD nor walked in his law nor in his statutes nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has overtaken you, as it is this day.

24 Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people, to men and women, Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who are in the land of Egypt;

25 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her; you have surely confirmed your oaths and performed your vows.

26 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any men of Judah in all the land of Egypt, nor shall they say, The LORD God lives.

27 For I will hasten to bring evil upon them, says the LORD; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by sword and by famine and by pestilence until I annihilate them.

28 And of those who escape the sword a few shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah who are gone to the land of Egypt to dwell there shall know whose words shall stand, mine or theirs.

29 And this shall be a sign to you, says the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil.

30 Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will deliver Pharaoh the Lame, the king of Egypt, into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I delivered Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, who sought his life.

Jeremiah

1 THE word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD to prophesy concerning all the Jews who dwell in the land of Egypt: those who dwell at Migdol and at Tahpanhes and at Memphis and in the land of Pathros, saying,

2 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: You have seen all the calamity that I have brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are desolate, and no man dwells in them

3 Because6440 of their wickedness7451 which834 they have committed6213 to provoke me to anger,3707 in that they went3212 to burn6999 incense,6999 and to serve5647 other312 gods,430 whom834 they knew3045 not, neither they, you, nor your fathers.1

3 Because of the wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went and burned incense to other gods, whom they knew not, neither they nor their fathers.

4 However, I sent7971 to you all3605 my servants5650 the prophets,5030 rising7925 early7925 and sending7971 them, saying,559 Oh,4994 do6213 not this2088 abominable8441 thing1697 that I hate.8130

4 And I sent to them all my servants the prophets, in advance, saying. Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate.

5 But they listened8085 not, nor3808 inclined5186 their ear241 to turn7725 from their wickedness,7451 to burn6999 no1115 incense6999 to other312 gods.430

5 But they did not hearken nor incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

6 Why my fury2534 and my anger639 was poured5413 forth, and was kindled1197 in the cities5892 of Judah3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem;3389 and they are wasted2723 and desolate,8077 as at this2088 day.3117

6 Therefore my fury and my anger were poured forth and a fire was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they became a desolation and an astonishment, as they are today.

7 And now thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, the young and the little one out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;

8 And thus have provoked me to anger with the works of your hands, and have burned incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have come to dwell, so that I may destroy you, and you shall become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

9 Have you forgotten7911 the wickedness7451 of your fathers,1 and the wickedness7451 of the kings4428 of Judah,3063 and the wickedness7451 of their wives,802 and your own wickedness,7451 and the wickedness7451 of your wives,802 which834 they have committed6213 in the land776 of Judah,3063 and in the streets2351 of Jerusalem?3389

9 Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and the wickedness of the kings of Judah and the wickedness of their wives which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

10 They are not humbled1792 even to this2088 day,3117 neither3808 have they feared,3372 nor3808 walked1980 in my law,8451 nor in my statutes,2708 that I set5414 before6440 you and before6440 your fathers.1

10 They have not cleansed themselves even to this day, neither have they feared nor have they served me nor walked in my law nor in my statutes which I set before them and before their fathers.

11 Therefore3651 thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 Behold,2005 I will set7760 my face6440 against you for evil,7451 and to cut3772 off all3605 Judah.3063

11 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil to destroy the whole house of Judah.

12 And I will crush the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to enter into the land of Egypt to live there, and they shall all be consumed in the land of Egypt; they shall die by sword and by famine and by pestilence; and they shall be an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach.

13 For I will punish6485 them that dwell3427 in the land776 of Egypt,4714 as I have punished6485 Jerusalem,3389 by the sword,2719 by the famine,7458 and by the pestilence:1698

13 For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence;

14 So that none of the remnant of Judah, who are gone into the land of Egypt to live there shall escape or remain that they may return to the land of Judah to which they hope to return to dwell there; and only a few shall return.

15 Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods and all the women who stood by, a great multitude, and all the people who dwelt in the land of Egypt and in Pathros answered Jeremiah, saying,

16 As for the word1697 that you have spoken1696 to us in the name8034 of the LORD,3068 we will not listen8085 to you.

16 As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you.

18 But since4480 227 we left2308 off to burn6999 incense6999 to the queen4446 of heaven,8064 and to pour5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, we have wanted2637 all3605 things, and have been consumed8552 by the sword2719 and by the famine.7458

18 But since we left off burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her we have lacked everything and have been consumed by sword and by famine.

19 And when3588 we burned6999 incense6999 to the queen4446 of heaven,8064 and poured5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, did we make6213 her cakes3561 to worship6087 her, and pour5258 out drink5262 offerings to her, without1107 our men?582

19 And all the women said, When we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, it was not without our husbands' consent; nor without their knowledge did we make cakes for her and pour out drink offerings to her.

20 Then Jeremiah3414 said559 to all3605 the people,5971 to the men,1397 and to the women,802 and to all3605 the people5971 which had given him that answer,6030 saying,559

20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, to the men and to the women and to all the people who had given him that answer, saying,

21 The incense that you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes and the people of the land, it was that incense that the LORD has remembered, and it has come into his mind.

22 So that the LORD could no longer forgive you because of your evil doings and because of the abomination which you have committed; therefore your land has become an astonishment and a curse and a desolation without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

23 It is because you have burned incense and because: you have sinned against the LORD and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD nor walked in his law nor in his statutes nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has overtaken you, as it is this day.

24 Moreover Jeremiah3414 said559 to all3605 the people,5971 and to all3605 the women,802 Hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD,3068 all3605 Judah3063 that are in the land776 of Egypt:4714

24 Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people, to men and women, Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who are in the land of Egypt;

27 For I will hasten to bring evil upon them, says the LORD; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by sword and by famine and by pestilence until I annihilate them.

28 And of those who escape the sword a few shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah who are gone to the land of Egypt to dwell there shall know whose words shall stand, mine or theirs.

29 And this2063 shall be a sign226 to you, said5002 the LORD,3068 that I will punish6485 you in this2088 place,4725 that you may know3045 that my words1697 shall surely stand6965 against5921 you for evil:7451

29 And this shall be a sign to you, says the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil.
