Mark

Chapter 6

And he went1831 out from there,1564 and came2064 into1519 his own country;3968 and his disciples3101 follow190 him.

And when the sabbath4521 day was come,1096 he began756 to teach1321 in the synagogue:4864 and many4183 hearing191 him were astonished,1605 saying,3004 From where4159 has this5129 man these5023 things? and what5101 wisdom4678 is this3588 which is given1325 to him, that even2532 such5108 mighty1411 works are worked1096 by his hands?5495

Is not this3778 the carpenter,5045 the son5207 of Mary,3137 the brother80 of James,2385 and Joses,2500 and of Juda,2455 and Simon?4613 and are not his sisters79 here5602 with us? And they were offended4624 at1722 him.

But Jesus,2424 said3004 to them, A prophet4396 is not without820 honor,820 but in his own country,3968 and among1722 his own kin,4773 and in his own house.3614

And he could1410 there1563 do4160 no3762 mighty1411 work,1411 save1508 that he laid2007 his hands5495 on a few3641 sick732 folk, and healed2323 them.

And he marveled2296 because1223 of their unbelief.570 And he went4013 round2943 about2945 the villages,2968 teaching.1321

And he called4341 to him the twelve,1427 and began756 to send649 them forth1614 by two1417 and two;1417 and gave1325 them power1849 over unclean169 spirits;4151

And commanded3853 them that they should take142 nothing3367 for their journey,3598 save1508 a staff4464 only;3440 no3361 money,4082 no3361 bread,740 no3361 money5475 in their purse:2223

But be shod5265 with sandals;4547 and not put1746 on1746 two1417 coats.5509

And he said3004 to them, In what3699 place3699 soever1437 you enter1525 into1519 an house,3614 there1563 abide3306 till2193 you depart1831 from that place.1564

And whoever3745 302 shall not receive1209 you, nor3366 hear191 you, when you depart1607 there,1564 shake1621 off1621 the dust5522 under5270 your5216 feet4228 for a testimony3142 against them. Truly281 I say3004 to you, It shall be more414 tolerable414 for Sodom4670 and Gomorrha1116 in the day2250 of judgment,2920 than2228 for that city.4172

And they went1831 out, and preached2784 that men should repent.3340

And they cast1544 out many4183 devils,1140 and anointed218 with oil1637 many4183 that were sick,732 and healed2323 them.

And king935 Herod2264 heard191 of him; (for his name3686 was spread5318 abroad:1519 1096) and he said,3004 That John2491 the Baptist907 was risen1453 from the dead,3498 and therefore1223 5124 mighty1411 works do show1754 forth1754 themselves in him.

Others243 said,3004 That it is Elias.2243 And others243 said,3004 That it is a prophet,4396 or2228 as one1520 of the prophets.4396

But when Herod2264 heard191 thereof, he said,2036 It is John,2491 whom3739 I beheaded:607 he is risen1453 from the dead.3498

For Herod2264 himself846 had sent649 forth1614 and laid hold2902 on John,2491 and bound1210 him in prison5438 for Herodias'2266 sake, his brother80 Philip's5376 wife:1135 for he had married1060 her.

For John2491 had said3004 to Herod,2264 It is not lawful1832 for you to have2192 your brother's80 wife.1135

Therefore Herodias2266 had a quarrel1758 against him, and would2309 have killed615 him; but she could1410 not:

For Herod2264 feared5399 John,2491 knowing1492 that he was a just1342 man435 and an holy,40 and observed4933 him; and when he heard191 him, he did4160 many4183 things, and heard191 him gladly.2234

And when a convenient2121 day2250 was come,1096 that Herod2264 on his birthday1077 made4160 a supper1173 to his lords,3175 high5310 captains,5506 and chief4413 estates of Galilee;1056

And when the daughter2364 of the said846 Herodias2266 came1525 in, and danced,3738 and pleased700 Herod2264 and them that sat4873 with him, the king935 said2036 to the damsel,2877 Ask154 of me whatever3739 1437 you will,2309 and I will give1325 it you.

And he swore3660 to her, Whatever3739 1437 you shall ask154 of me, I will give1325 it you, to the half2255 of my kingdom.932

And she went1831 forth,1831 and said2036 to her mother,3384 What5101 shall I ask?154 And she said,2036 The head2776 of John2491 the Baptist.910

And she came1525 in straightway2112 with haste4710 to the king,935 and asked,154 saying,3004 I will2309 that you give1325 me by and by in a charger4094 the head2776 of John2491 the Baptist.910

And the king935 was exceeding4036 sorry;4036 yet for his oath's3727 sake, and for their sakes which3588 sat4873 with him, he would2309 not reject114 her.

And immediately2112 the king935 sent649 an executioner,4688 and commanded2004 his head2776 to be brought:5342 and he went565 and beheaded607 him in the prison,5438

And brought5342 his head2776 in a charger,4094 and gave1325 it to the damsel:2877 and the damsel2877 gave1325 it to her mother.3384

And when his disciples3101 heard191 of it, they came2064 and took142 up his corpse,4430 and laid5087 it in a tomb.3419

And the apostles652 gathered4863 themselves together4863 to Jesus,2424 and told518 him all3956 things, both5037 what3745 they had done,4160 and what3745 they had taught.2258 1321

And he said2036 to them, Come1205 you yourselves5210 846 apart2596 2398 into1519 a desert2048 place,5117 and rest373 a while:3641 for there were many4183 coming2064 and going,5217 and they had no3761 leisure2119 so3761 much as to eat.5315

And they departed565 into1519 a desert2048 place5117 by ship4143 privately.2596 2398

And the people3793 saw1492 them departing,5217 and many4183 knew1921 him, and ran4936 afoot3979 thither1563 out of all3956 cities,4172 and preceded4281 them, and came4905 together4905 to him.

And Jesus,2424 when he came1831 out, saw1492 much4183 people,3793 and was moved4697 with compassion4697 toward1909 them, because3754 they were as sheep4263 not having2192 a shepherd:4166 and he began756 to teach1321 them many4183 things.

And when the day5610 was now2235 far4183 spent, his disciples3101 came4334 to him, and said,3004 This3588 is a desert2048 place,5117 and now2235 the time5610 is far4183 passed:

Send630 them away,630 that they may go565 into1519 the country68 round2943 about,2945 and into1519 the villages,2968 and buy59 themselves1438 bread:740 for they have2192 nothing3756 5100 to eat.5315

He answered611 and said2036 to them, Give1325 you them to eat.5315 And they say3004 to him, Shall we go565 and buy59 two1250 hundred1250 pennyworth1220 of bread,740 and give1325 them to eat?5315

He said3004 to them, How4214 many4214 loaves740 have2192 you? go5217 and see.1492 And when they knew,1097 they say,3004 Five,4002 and two1417 fishes.2486

And he commanded2004 them to make347 all3956 sit347 down347 by companies4849 on the green5515 grass.5528

And they sat377 down377 in ranks,4237 by hundreds,1540 and by fifties.4004

And when he had taken2983 the five4002 loaves740 and the two1417 fishes,2486 he looked308 up to heaven,3772 and blessed,2127 and broke2622 the loaves,740 and gave1325 them to his disciples3101 to set3908 before3908 them; and the two1417 fishes2486 divided3307 he among them all.3956

And they did all3956 eat,5315 and were filled.5526

And they took142 up twelve1427 baskets2894 full4134 of the fragments,2801 and of the fishes.2486

And they that did eat5315 of the loaves740 were about5616 five4000 thousand4000 men.435

And straightway2112 he constrained315 his disciples3101 to get1684 into1519 the ship,4143 and to go4254 to the other4008 side4008 before4254 to Bethsaida,966 while2193 he sent630 away630 the people.3793

And when he had sent657 them away,657 he departed565 into1519 a mountain3735 to pray.4336

And when even3798 was come,1096 the ship4143 was in the middle3319 of the sea,2281 and he alone3441 on1909 the land.1095

And he saw1492 them toiling928 in rowing;1643 for the wind417 was contrary1727 to them: and about4012 the fourth5067 watch5438 of the night3571 he comes2064 to them, walking4043 on the sea,2281 and would2309 have passed3928 by them.

But when they saw1492 him walking4043 on the sea,2281 they supposed1380 it had been1511 a spirit,5326 and cried349 out:

For they all3956 saw1492 him, and were troubled.5015 And immediately2112 he talked2980 with them, and said3004 to them, Be of good cheer:2293 it is I; be not afraid.5399

And he went305 up to them into1519 the ship;4143 and the wind417 ceased:2869 and they were sore3029 amazed1839 in themselves1438 beyond1537 4053 measure,4053 and wondered.2296

For they considered4920 not the miracle of the loaves:740 for their heart2588 was hardened.4456

And when they had passed1276 over,1276 they came2064 into1909 the land1095 of Gennesaret,1082 and drew4358 to the shore.4358

And when they were come1831 out of the ship,4143 straightway2112 they knew1921 him,

And ran4063 through4063 that whole3650 region4066 round4066 about,4066 and began756 to carry4064 about4064 in beds2895 those3588 that were sick,2192 2560 where3699 they heard191 he was.

And wherever3699 302 he entered,1531 into1519 villages,2968 or2228 cities,4172 or2228 country,68 they laid5087 the sick770 in the streets,58 and sought3870 him that they might touch680 if2579 it were but the border2899 of his garment:2440 and as many3745 as touched680 him were made4982 whole.4982
