Chapter 5

1 AND afterward Moses and Aaron went into the palace and told Pharaoh, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go that they may hold a feast to me in the wilderness.

2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

3 And they said, The LORD God of the Hebrews has appeared to us; now let us go three days' journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with the sword or with pestilence.

4 And the king of Egypt said to them, Wherefore do you, Moses and Aaron, cause the people to stop from their work? Go back to your tasks.

5 And Pharaoh said to them, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and you cause them to stop from their work.

6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people and their scribes, saying,

7 You shall no more give the people straw to make bricks, as heretofore; let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8 But the number of bricks which they did make heretofore, you shall lay upon them; you shall not reduce the number thereof; for they are idle; that is why they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

9 Let more work be assigned to the men, that they may be occupied, so that they may not think to engage in vain conversations.

10 And the taskmasters of the people and their scribes went out and said to the people, Thus says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

11 Go, get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it; but your work shall not be reduced.

12 So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather the stubble.

13 And the taskmasters pressed them, saying, Complete your work as you have always done, as when straw was given to you.

14 And the scribes of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had appointed over them, were beaten, and demanded, Why have you not completed your quota of bricks both yesterday and today, as heretofore?

15 Then the scribes of the children of Israel came and complained to Pharaoh, saying, Why are your servants treated in this manner?

16 There is no straw given to your servants, and yet they say to us, Make bricks: and, behold, your servants are beaten; and you sin against your people.

17 But Pharaoh said to them, You are surely idle; therefore you say, Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.

18 Go therefore now and work; and straw shall not be given you, yet you shall deliver the number of bricks.

19 And the scribes of the children of Israel saw that they were in a bad situation, for it was said to them, You must not reduce the number of your bricks, of your daily task.

20 And they met Moses and Aaron standing opposite them, as they came out from the presence of Pharaoh;

21 And they said to them, May the LORD look upon you and judge; because you have made us to be in disfavor in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hands to kill us.

22 And Moses returned to the LORD and said, O my LORD, Why hast thou caused this people to be ill-treated? And why didst thou send me here?

23 For since the hour I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has ill-treated this people; and thou hast not delivered thy people at all.

1 После сего, Моисей и Аарон пришли к Фараону, и сказали: так говорит Иегова, Бог Израилев: отпусти народ Мой, чтоб он совершил мне праздник в пустыне.

2 Но Фараон сказал: кто такой Иегова, чтобы я послушался гласа Его и отпустил Израиля? Я не знаю Иеговы, и Израиля не отпущу.

3 Они сказали: Бог Евреев явился нам. Отпусти нас в пустыню на три дня пути, чтобы принести жертву Иегове, Богу нашему, дабы он не поразил нас язвою или мечем.

4 И сказал им царь Египетский: для чего вы, Моисей и Аарон, отвлекаете народ от дел его? Ступайте на свою работу.

5 И сказал Фараон: вот, народ в земле сей многочислен. И вы отвлекаете его от работ его.

6 И в тот же день Фараон дал повеление приставникам над народом и надзирателям его, говоря:

7 Не давайте впредь народу соломы для делания кирпича, как вчера и третьего дня. Пусть они сами ходят и собирают себе солому.

8 А кирпичей наложите на них то же урочное число, какое они делали вчера и третьего дня, и не убавляйте; они праздны, потому и кричат: пойдем, принесем жертву Богу нашему.

9 Умножить работу людям сим, чтоб они работали и не смотрели на пустые речи.

10 И вышли приставники народа и надзиратели его, и сказали народу: так говорит Фараон: не даю вам соломы.

11 Сами подите, берите себе солому, где найдете. А от работы вашей ничего не убавляется.

12 И рассеялся народ по всей земле Египетской собирать солому.

13 Приставники же принуждали их, говоря: исправляйте работу свою каждый день, как и тогда, когда была у вас солома.

14 Надзирателей же из сынов Израилевых, которых поставили над ними приставники Фараоновы, били, говоря: для чего вы вчера и сегодня не изготовляете урочного числа кирпичей, как вчера и третьего дня?

15 И пришли надзиратели сынов Израилевых, и возопили к Фараону, говоря: для чего ты так поступаешь с рабами твоими?

16 Соломы не дают рабам твоим; а кирпичи, говорят нам, делайте. И вот, рабов твоих бьют; грех народу твоему.

17 Но он сказал: праздны вы, праздны! потому говорите: пойдем, принесем жертву Иегове.

18 Итак подите, работайте. Соломы не дадут вам; а положенное число кирпичей давайте.

19 И увидели надзиратели сынов Израилевых беду свою, когда сказано было: не убавляйте числа кирпичей, какое положено на каждый день.

20 И когда они вышли от Фараона, то встретились с Моисеем и Аароном, которые стояли, ожидая их,

21 И сказали им: да видит и судит вам Иегова за то, что вы сделали нас ненавистными пред Фараоном и пред рабами его, и дали меч в руки им, чтобы убить нас.

22 И обратился Моисей к Иегове, и сказал: Господи! почто Ты подвергнул такому бедствию народ сей? для чего Ты послал меня?

23 Ибо с того времени, как я пришел к Фараону и стал говорить Именем Твоим, он начал хуже поступать с народом сим; а Ты не избавляешь народа Твоего.

1 После сего, Моисей и Аарон пришли к Фараону, и сказали: так говорит Иегова, Бог Израилев: отпусти народ Мой, чтоб он совершил мне праздник в пустыне.

2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

2 Но Фараон сказал: кто такой Иегова, чтобы я послушался гласа Его и отпустил Израиля? Я не знаю Иеговы, и Израиля не отпущу.

3 And they said, The LORD God of the Hebrews has appeared to us; now let us go three days' journey into the wilderness that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with the sword or with pestilence.

3 Они сказали: Бог Евреев явился нам. Отпусти нас в пустыню на три дня пути, чтобы принести жертву Иегове, Богу нашему, дабы он не поразил нас язвою или мечем.

4 And the king of Egypt said to them, Wherefore do you, Moses and Aaron, cause the people to stop from their work? Go back to your tasks.

4 И сказал им царь Египетский: для чего вы, Моисей и Аарон, отвлекаете народ от дел его? Ступайте на свою работу.

5 And Pharaoh said to them, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and you cause them to stop from their work.

5 И сказал Фараон: вот, народ в земле сей многочислен. И вы отвлекаете его от работ его.

6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people and their scribes, saying,

6 И в тот же день Фараон дал повеление приставникам над народом и надзирателям его, говоря:

7 You shall no more give the people straw to make bricks, as heretofore; let them go and gather straw for themselves.

7 Не давайте впредь народу соломы для делания кирпича, как вчера и третьего дня. Пусть они сами ходят и собирают себе солому.

8 But the number of bricks which they did make heretofore, you shall lay upon them; you shall not reduce the number thereof; for they are idle; that is why they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

8 А кирпичей наложите на них то же урочное число, какое они делали вчера и третьего дня, и не убавляйте; они праздны, потому и кричат: пойдем, принесем жертву Богу нашему.

9 Умножить работу людям сим, чтоб они работали и не смотрели на пустые речи.

10 And the taskmasters of the people and their scribes went out and said to the people, Thus says Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

10 И вышли приставники народа и надзиратели его, и сказали народу: так говорит Фараон: не даю вам соломы.

11 Go, get straw for yourselves wherever you can find it; but your work shall not be reduced.

11 Сами подите, берите себе солому, где найдете. А от работы вашей ничего не убавляется.

12 So the people were scattered throughout all the land of Egypt to gather the stubble.

12 И рассеялся народ по всей земле Египетской собирать солому.

13 And the taskmasters pressed them, saying, Complete your work as you have always done, as when straw was given to you.

13 Приставники же принуждали их, говоря: исправляйте работу свою каждый день, как и тогда, когда была у вас солома.

15 Then the scribes of the children of Israel came and complained to Pharaoh, saying, Why are your servants treated in this manner?

15 И пришли надзиратели сынов Израилевых, и возопили к Фараону, говоря: для чего ты так поступаешь с рабами твоими?

16 There is no straw given to your servants, and yet they say to us, Make bricks: and, behold, your servants are beaten; and you sin against your people.

16 Соломы не дают рабам твоим; а кирпичи, говорят нам, делайте. И вот, рабов твоих бьют; грех народу твоему.

17 But Pharaoh said to them, You are surely idle; therefore you say, Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.

17 Но он сказал: праздны вы, праздны! потому говорите: пойдем, принесем жертву Иегове.

18 Go therefore now and work; and straw shall not be given you, yet you shall deliver the number of bricks.

18 Итак подите, работайте. Соломы не дадут вам; а положенное число кирпичей давайте.

19 And the scribes of the children of Israel saw that they were in a bad situation, for it was said to them, You must not reduce the number of your bricks, of your daily task.

19 И увидели надзиратели сынов Израилевых беду свою, когда сказано было: не убавляйте числа кирпичей, какое положено на каждый день.

20 And they met Moses and Aaron standing opposite them, as they came out from the presence of Pharaoh;

20 И когда они вышли от Фараона, то встретились с Моисеем и Аароном, которые стояли, ожидая их,

21 And they said to them, May the LORD look upon you and judge; because you have made us to be in disfavor in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hands to kill us.

21 И сказали им: да видит и судит вам Иегова за то, что вы сделали нас ненавистными пред Фараоном и пред рабами его, и дали меч в руки им, чтобы убить нас.

22 And Moses returned to the LORD and said, O my LORD, Why hast thou caused this people to be ill-treated? And why didst thou send me here?

22 И обратился Моисей к Иегове, и сказал: Господи! почто Ты подвергнул такому бедствию народ сей? для чего Ты послал меня?

23 For since the hour I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has ill-treated this people; and thou hast not delivered thy people at all.

23 Ибо с того времени, как я пришел к Фараону и стал говорить Именем Твоим, он начал хуже поступать с народом сим; а Ты не избавляешь народа Твоего.
