Amos

Chapter 2

1 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 For three7969 transgressions6588 of Moab,4124 and for four,702 I will not turn7725 away the punishment thereof; because5921 he burned8313 the bones6106 of the king4428 of Edom123 into lime:7875

2 But I will send7971 a fire784 on Moab,4124 and it shall devour398 the palaces759 of Kirioth:7152 and Moab4124 shall die4191 with tumult,7588 with shouting,8643 and with the sound6963 of the trumpet:7782

3 And I will cut3772 off the judge8199 from the middle7130 thereof, and will slay2026 all3605 the princes8269 thereof with him, said559 the LORD.3068

4 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 For three7969 transgressions6588 of Judah,3063 and for four,702 I will not turn7725 away the punishment thereof; because5921 they have despised3988 the law8451 of the LORD,3068 and have not kept8104 his commandments,2706 and their lies3576 caused them to err,8582 after310 the which834 their fathers1 have walked:1980

5 But I will send7971 a fire784 on Judah,3063 and it shall devour398 the palaces759 of Jerusalem.3389

6 Thus3541 said559 the LORD;3068 For three7969 transgressions6588 of Israel,3478 and for four,702 I will not turn7725 away the punishment thereof; because5921 they sold4376 the righteous6662 for silver,3701 and the poor34 for a pair of shoes;5275

7 That pant7602 after5921 the dust6083 of the earth776 on the head7218 of the poor,1800 and turn5186 aside5186 the way1870 of the meek:6035 and a man376 and his father2 will go3212 in to the same maid,5291 to profane2490 my holy6944 name:8034

8 And they lay5186 themselves down on clothes899 laid to pledge2254 by every3605 altar,4196 and they drink8354 the wine3196 of the condemned6064 in the house1004 of their god.430

9 Yet destroyed8045 I the Amorite567 before6440 them, whose834 height1363 was like the height1363 of the cedars,730 and he was strong2634 as the oaks;437 yet I destroyed8045 his fruit6529 from above,4605 and his roots8328 from beneath.8478

10 Also I brought5927 you up from the land776 of Egypt,4714 and led3212 you forty705 years8141 through the wilderness,4057 to possess3423 the land776 of the Amorite.567

11 And I raised6965 up of your sons1121 for prophets,5030 and of your young970 men for Nazarites.5139 Is it not even637 thus,2063 O you children1121 of Israel?3478 said5002 the LORD.3068

12 But you gave the Nazarites5139 wine3196 to drink;8248 and commanded6680 the prophets,5030 saying,559 Prophesy5012 not.

13 Behold,2009 I am pressed5781 under8478 you, as a cart5699 is pressed5781 that is full4392 of sheaves.5995

14 Therefore the flight4498 shall perish6 from the swift,7031 and the strong2389 shall not strengthen553 his force,3581 neither3808 shall the mighty1368 deliver4422 himself:5315

15 Neither3808 shall he stand5975 that handles8610 the bow;7198 and he that is swift7031 of foot7272 shall not deliver4422 himself:5315 neither3808 shall he that rides7392 the horse5483 deliver4422 himself.5315

16 And he that is courageous533 3820 among the mighty1368 shall flee5127 away naked6174 in that day,3117 said5002 the LORD.3068

Chapter 2

1 THUS says the LORD: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment from the people thereof, because they burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime;

2 But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth; and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet;

3 And I will cut off the judge from its midst, and will slay all its princes with him, says the LORD.

4 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Judah. and for four, I will not turn away the punishment from the people thereof because they have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept his commandments, and the vain idols, after which their fathers have walked, have caused them to go astray.

5 But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

6 Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof, because they sold a righteous man for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes, with which they tread the dust of the earth.

7 And they oppress the poor, and turn away justice from the fatherless; and a man and his father go in to the same woman, to profane my holy name.

8 And they laid themselves down in filthy clothes on the sides of every altar, and they drank old wine in the houses of their gods.

9 Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of a cedar, and he was strong as an oak; yet I destroyed his fruit from above and his roots from beneath.

10 Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, and brought you here to possess the land of the Amorite.

11 And I raised up some of your sons for prophets, and some of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O you children of Israel? says the LORD.

12 But you gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets that they should not prophesy.

13 Behold, I am weary under your burdens, as a cart creaks that is full of sheaves.

14 Therefore the power to run shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not possess his strength, neither shall the mighty deliver himself.

15 And he that handles the bow shall not stand; and he who is a fast runner shall not deliver himself; neither shall he who rides the horse deliver himself.

16 And he who is courageous like a mighty man shall flee away naked in that day, says the LORD.
