2 And Job347 spoke,6030 and said,559

3 Let the day3117 perish6 wherein I was born,3205 and the night3915 in which it was said,559 There is a man child1397 conceived.2029

4 Let that1931 day3117 be1961 darkness;2822 let not408 God433 regard1875 it from above,4480 4605 neither408 let the light5105 shine3313 upon5921 it.

5 Let darkness2822 and the shadow of death6757 stain1350 it; let a cloud6053 dwell7931 upon5921 it; let the blackness3650 of the day3117 terrify1204 it.

1 И когда заговорил Иов, он проклял день рождения своего.

2 И сказал Иов:

3 «Пусть бы не было того дня, когда я родился, и ночи той, возвестившей: „Зачат наследник“!

4 День тот пусть тьмою станет, да не вспомнит о нем Бог с высот, и свет над ним да не воссияет!

5 Пусть тьма и смерти тень его поглотят, пусть соберутся над ним тучи, затмение его пусть ужаснет!

6 Та ночь — да будет объята мраком, да не причтется она ко дням года, в число месяцев да не войдет!

7 Да будет бесплодной та ночь, да не услышит она крика ликованья!

8 Да проклянут ее те, что проклинают море, что способны разбудить Левиафана.

9 Пусть померкнут во мраке ночи той звезды, пусть рассвета она ждет, а его не будет, пусть ресниц зари не увидит

10 за то, что не замкнула она зева утробы матери моей и не скрыла горя от глаз моих.

11 Зачем не умер я в утробе, не погиб при родах?

12 Зачем среди колен я прошел, к груди зачем припал?

13 Теперь лежал бы я в покое, спал бы сейчас безмятежно смертным сном

14 среди царей и мудрецов земных, что руины себе возводят,

15 с владыками, что золото собирали, дома серебром наполняли;

16 не было бы меня — лишь выкидыш, тайком зарытый, младенец, что так и не увидел света.

17 Там, где жизни нет, унимаются злодеи, там отдыхают обессилевшие.

18 Все узники там находят покой и криков надсмотрщика не слышат.

19 И малый, и великий там равны, и над рабами нет владык.

20 Зачем несчастным свет дарован и жизнь — огорченной душе?

21 Ждут они смерти, а ее всё нет, жаждут ее больше утаенных сокровищ;

22 лишь найдя могилу, веселятся, радуются и ликуют.

23 Зачем жизнь тому, чей путь потерян, кому Бог поставил преграду?

24 Стоны мне теперь вместо хлеба, плачи мои льются, словно вода.

25 Тот ужас, которого я страшился, настиг меня, то, чего боялся, — ко мне пришло.

26 Нет ни отдыха мне, ни покоя, ни затишья — пришло несчастье!»
