1 Dead4194 flies2070 cause the ointment8081 of the apothecary7543 to send forth5042 a stinking savor:887 so doth a little4592 folly5531 him that is in reputation3368 for wisdom4480 2451 and honor.4480 3519

2 A wise man's2450 heart3820 is at his right hand;3225 but a fool's3684 heart3820 at his left.8040

3 Yea also,1571 when he that is a fool7945 5530 walketh1980 by the way,1870 his wisdom3820 faileth2638 him, and he saith559 to every one3605 that he1931 is a fool.5530

4 If518 the spirit7307 of the ruler4910 rise up5927 against5921 thee, leave5117 not408 thy place;4725 for3588 yielding4832 pacifieth5117 great1419 offenses.2399

5 There is3426 an evil7451 which I have seen7200 under8478 the sun,8121 as an error7684 which proceedeth7945 3318 from4480 6440 the ruler: 7989

6 Folly5529 is set5414 in great7227 dignity,4791 and the rich6223 sit3427 in low place.8216

7 I have seen7200 servants5650 upon5921 horses,5483 and princes8269 walking1980 as servants5650 upon5921 the earth.776

8 He that diggeth2658 a pit1475 shall fall5307 into it; and whoso breaketh6555 a hedge,1447 a serpent5175 shall bite5391 him.

9 Whoso removeth5265 stones68 shall be hurt6087 therewith; and he that cleaveth1234 wood6086 shall be endangered5533 thereby.

10 If518 the iron1270 be blunt,6949 and he1931 do not3808 whet7043 the edge,6440 then must he put to1396 more strength:2428 but wisdom2451 is profitable3504 to direct.3787

11 Surely518 the serpent5175 will bite5391 without3808 enchantment;3908 and a babbler1167 3956 is no369 better.3504

12 The words1697 of a wise man's2450 mouth6310 are gracious;2580 but the lips8193 of a fool3684 will swallow up1104 himself.

13 The beginning8462 of the words1697 of his mouth6310 is foolishness:5531 and the end319 of his talk6310 is mischievous7451 madness.1948

14 A fool5530 also is full7235 of words:1697 a man120 cannot3808 tell3045 what shall be;4100 7945 1961 and what834 shall be1961 after4480 310 him, who4310 can tell5046 him?

15 The labor5999 of the foolish3684 wearieth3021 every one of them, because834 he knoweth3045 not3808 how to go1980 to413 the city.5892

16 Woe337 to thee, O land,776 when thy king7945 4428 is a child,5288 and thy princes8269 eat398 in the morning!1242

17 Blessed835 art thou, O land,776 when thy king7945 4428 is the son1121 of nobles,2715 and thy princes8269 eat398 in due season,6256 for strength,1369 and not3808 for drunkenness!8358

18 By much slothfulness6103 the building4746 decayeth;4355 and through idleness8220 of the hands3027 the house1004 droppeth through.1811

19 A feast3899 is made6213 for laughter,7814 and wine3196 maketh merry:8055 2416 but money3701 answereth6030 853 all3605 things.

Глава 10

1 Как мёртвые мухи портят и делают зловонными благовония, так и небольшая глупость перевешивает мудрость и честь.

2 Сердце мудрого влечёт его вправо, а сердце глупого – влево.

3 Даже когда глупый просто идёт по дороге, ему не хватает ума, и всем видно, насколько он глуп.

4 Если гнев правителя вспыхнет на тебя, не покидай своего места – кротость может сгладить и большие ошибки.

5 Есть ещё одно зло, которое я видел под солнцем, ошибку, которую совершает властитель:

6 глупых ставят на многие высокие посты, а богатые занимают низкие.

7 Видел я, как рабы ездили на лошадях, а начальники шли пешком, подобно рабам.

8 Кто копает яму, тот может упасть в неё, и кто разрушает стену, того может ужалить змея.

9 Кто работает на каменоломне, тот может покалечиться, и кто колет дрова, тот подвергает себя опасности.

10 Если топор тупой, и лезвие его не отточено,то нужно будет прилагать большое усилие, а мудрость бы всё предусмотрела.

11 Нет пользы заклинателю от его искусства, если змея ужалит его до заклинания.

12 Благодатны слова из уст мудрого, а уста глупого губят его самого.

13 Начало его речи – глупость, а конец её – злое безумие.

14 Глупый говорит много, хотя человек не знает будущего, и кто может сказать ему, что будет после него?

15 Труд утомляет глупого, который даже не знает, как добраться до города.

16 Горе тебе, страна, чей царь – ещё ребёнок, . и чьи вельможи пируют уже с утра.

17 Благословенна ты, страна, чей царь из знатного рода, и чьи вельможи едят и пьют в нужное время – для подкрепления, а не для пьянства.

18 Если человек ленив, то в доме его прогнётся потолок, и если руки его праздны, то протечёт крыша.

19 Пиры устраиваются для удовольствия, и вино веселит жизнь, а деньги обеспечивают и то, и другое.

20 Даже в мыслях своих не злословь царя, и в своей спальне не говори плохо о богатом,потому что птица небесная может перенести твои слова, крылатая может передать, что ты сказал.
