Chapter 31

1 AND Moses went and spoke all these words to all Israel.

2 And he said to them, I am a hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no longer go out and come in; and the LORD has said to me, You shall not cross the Jordan.

3 The LORD your God, he will go over before you, and he will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall possess them; and Joshua shall go over before you, as the LORD has said.

4 And the LORD shall do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their lands, which he destroyed.

5 And the LORD shall deliver them also before you, and you shall do to them according to all the commandments which I have commanded you.

6 Be strong and of good courage, fear not, nor tremble before them; for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you.

7 Then Moses called Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it.

8 And it is the LORD who goes before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, nor forsake you; fear not, neither tremble, nor be dismayed.

9 And Moses wrote this law, and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel.

10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, at the time of the year of release, at the feast of tabernacles,

11 When all Israel comes to appear before the LORD your God in the place which he shall choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

12 Gather the people together, men and women and children and the stranger who is within your cities, that they may hear, and that they may learn and revere the LORD your God and observe and do all the words of this law;

13 And that their children, who have not known anything, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land which you are crossing the Jordan to possess.

14 And the LORD said to Moses, Behold, the day is coming when you must die; call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.

15 And the LORD appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of cloud; and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the tabernacle.

16 And the LORD said to Moses, Behold, you shall sleep with your fathers; and this people will rise up and go astray after strange gods of the land where they go to dwell among them, and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.

17 Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will turn away my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not in our midst?

18 And I will surely turn away from them in that day for all the evils which they have done, in that they have gone astray after other gods.

19 Now therefore write this song for them, and teach it to the children of Israel; and put it into their mouths; this song will be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

20 For I will bring them into the land which I swore to their fathers, a land that flows with milk and honey; and when they have eaten and are full, and live in luxury, then they will go astray after other gods and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant.

21 And when many evils and troubles are befallen them, then this song shall be read before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants; for I know their inclination and all that they do here this day, before I have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers.

22 Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it to the children of Israel.

23 And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said to him, Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to their fathers; and I will be with you.

24 And when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, and they were finished,

25 He commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,

26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there as a witness against you.

27 For I know how rebellious and stiffnecked you are; behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, you have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?

28 Gather to me all the elders of your tribes and your scribes, that I may speak these words to you, and call heaven and earth to witness against you.

29 For I know that after my death you will surely become corrupt and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; when you have done evil in the sight of the LORD and have provoked him to anger through the work of your hands.

30 And Moses spoke the words of this song before all the congregation of the children of Israel, until they were ended.

Kapitel 31

1 Und Mose4872 ging hin3212 und redete1696 diese Worte1697 mit dem ganzen Israel3478;

2 und sprach559 zu ihnen: Ich bin heute3117 hundertundzwanzig3967 Jahre8141 alt1121, ich kann3201 nicht mehr aus3318 und ein gehen935; dazu hat der HErr3068 zu mir gesagt559: Du sollst nicht über diesen Jordan3383 gehen5674.

3 Der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, wird selber vor6440 dir hergehen; er wird selber diese Völker1471 vor6440 dir her vertilgen8045, daß du sie einnehmest3423. Josua3091, der soll vor6440 dir hinübergehen5674, wie der HErr3068 geredet hat1696.

4 Und der HErr3068 wird ihnen tun6213, wie er getan6213 hat8045 Sihon5511 und Og5747, den Königen4428 der Amoriter567, und ihrem Lande776, welche er vertilget hat.

5 Wenn sie6680 nun der HErr3068 vor6440 euch geben5414 wird, so sollt ihr ihnen tun nach allem Gebot4687, das ich euch geboten habe6213.

6 Seid getrost2388 und unverzagt, fürchtet euch3372 nicht und lasset euch nicht vor6440 ihnen grauen6206; denn der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, wird553 selber mit dir wandeln1980 und wird die Hand nicht abtun7503 noch dich verlassen5800.

7 Und Mose4872 rief7121 Josua3091 und sprach559 zu ihm vor den Augen5869 des ganzen Israel3478: Sei553 getrost und unverzagt; denn du wirst dies Volk5971 ins Land776 bringen935, das der HErr3068 ihren Vätern1 geschworen7650 hat, ihnen zu geben5414, und du wirst es unter sie2388 austeilen5157.

8 Der HErr3068 aber, der selber vor6440 euch1980 hergehet, der wird mit dir sein und wird die Hand nicht2865 abtun7503 noch dich verlassen5800. Fürchte3372 dich nicht und erschrick nicht!

9 Und Mose4872 schrieb3789 dies Gesetz8451 und gab‘s5414 den Priestern3548, den Kindern1121 Levi3878, die die Lade727 des Bundes1285 des HErrn3068 trugen5375, und allen Ältesten2205 Israels3478;

10 und4872 gebot6680 ihnen und sprach559: Je über7093 sieben7651 Jahre8141, zur Zeit4150 des Erlaßjahrs, am Fest2282 der Laubhütten5521,

11 wenn das ganze Israel3478 kommt935, zu erscheinen vor6440 dem HErrn3068, deinem GOtt430, an7200 dem Ort4725, den er erwählen977 wird, sollst du dies Gesetz8451 vor dem ganzen Israel3478 ausrufen7121 lassen vor ihren Ohren241,

12 nämlich vor der Versammlung6950 des Volks5971, beide der Männer582 und Weiber802, Kinder2945 und deines Fremdlings1616, der in deinem Tor8179 ist; auf daß sie hören8085 und lernen3925, damit sie den HErrn3068, ihren GOtt430, fürchten3372 und halten8104, daß sie tun6213 alle Worte1697 dieses Gesetzes8451,

13 und daß ihre2416 Kinder1121, die es nicht wissen3045, auch hören8085 und lernen3925; damit sie den HErrn3068, euren GOtt430, fürchten3372 alle3117 eure Lebtage, die ihr auf dem Lande127 lebet, darein ihr gehet über5674 den Jordan3383 einzunehmen3423.

14 Und der HErr3068 sprach559 zu4191 Mose4872: Siehe, deine Zeit3117 ist7126 herbeikommen, daß du sterbest. Rufe7121 Josua3091 und tretet in3320 die Hütte168 des Stifts4150, daß ich ihm Befehl6680 tue. Mose4872 ging hin3212 mit Josua3091, und traten3320 in die Hütte168 des Stifts4150.

15 Der HErr3068 aber erschien7200 in der Hütte168 in einer Wolkensäule5982; und5975 dieselbe Wolkensäule6051 stund in der Hütte168 Tür6607.

16 Und310 der HErr3068 sprach559 zu Mose4872: Siehe, du wirst schlafen7901 mit7130 deinen Vätern1; und430 dies Volk5971 wird aufkommen und wird fremden5236 Göttern nachhuren, des Landes776, darein sie kommen, und wird mich verlassen5800 und den Bund1285 fahren935 lassen6565, den ich mit ihm gemacht3772 habe6965.

17 So7227 wird4672 mein Zorn639 ergrimmen2734 über sie zur selben Zeit3117 und werde sie verlassen5800 und mein Antlitz vor ihnen verbergen5641, daß sie verzehret werden. Und wenn3117 sie dann viel Unglück und Angst6869 treffen wird4672, werden sie sagen559: Hat mich6440 nicht7451 dies Übel alles betreten, weil mein GOtt430 nicht7451 mit7130 mir ist398?

18 Ich aber werde5641 mein Antlitz verbergen5641 zu der Zeit3117 um6437 alles Bösen7451 willen, das sie6440 getan6213 haben, daß3588 sie sich zu andern312 Göttern430 gewandt haben.

19 So schreibet3789 euch nun dies Lied7892 und7760 lehret3925 es die Kinder1121 Israel3478 und leget es in ihren Mund6310, daß mir das Lied7892 ein Zeuge5707 sei unter den Kindern1121 Israel3478.

20 Denn ich will935 sie ins Land127 bringen, das ich ihren Vätern1 geschworen7650 habe, da Milch2461 und430 Honig1706 innen fleußt. Und wenn sie essen398 und satt und fett werden7646, so werden1878 sie sich6437 wenden zu andern312 Göttern und ihnen dienen5647, und mich lästern5006 und meinen Bund1285 fahren lassen6565.

21 Und wenn3117 sie6440 dann viel Unglück und Angst6869 betreten wird4672, so7227 soll dies Lied7892 ihnen antworten6030 zum Zeugnis5707; denn es soll nicht7451 vergessen werden aus dem Munde6310 ihres Samens2233. Denn ich weiß3045 ihre Gedanken3336, damit sie schon jetzt umgehen, ehe ich sie ins Land776 bringe935, das ich geschworen7650 habe6213.

22 Also schrieb3789 Mose4872 dies Lied7892 zur selbigen Zeit3117 und lehrete es die Kinder1121 Israel3478.

23 Und befahl6680 Josua3091, dem Sohn1121 Nuns5126, und sprach559: Sei553 getrost2388 und unverzagt; denn du sollst die Kinder1121 Israel3478 ins Land776 führen, das ich ihnen geschworen7650 habe, und ich will935 mit dir sein.

24 Da nun Mose4872 die Worte1697 dieses Gesetzes8451 ganz8552 ausgeschrieben3789 hatte3615 in ein Buch5612,

25 gebot6680 er den Leviten3881, die die Lade727 des Zeugnisses1285 des HErrn3068 trugen5375, und4872 sprach559:

26 Nehmet das Buch5612 dieses Gesetzes8451 und leget es in die Seite6654 der Lade727 des Bundes1285 des HErrn3068, eures Gottes430, daß es daselbst7760 ein Zeuge5707 sei wider dich.

27 Denn ich kenne deinen Ungehorsam4805 und Halsstarrigkeit6203. Siehe, weil ich noch heute3117 mit euch310 lebe2416, seid4784 ihr3045 ungehorsam gewesen wider den HErrn3068; wieviel mehr nach meinem Tode4194.

28 So versammelt6950 nun vor mich alle Ältesten2205 eurer Stämme7626 und eure Amtleute7860, daß ich diese Worte1696 vor ihren Ohren241 rede1697 und Himmel8064 und Erde776 wider sie zu Zeugen5749 nehme5749.

29 Denn ich weiß3045, daß ihr‘s nach meinem Tode4194 verderben7843 werdet und7843 aus dem7451 Wege1870 treten, den ich euch310 geboten6680 habe. So wird euch5493 dann Unglück7451 begegnen7122 hernach319; darum daß ihr übel getan6213 habt vor3117 den Augen5869 des HErrn3068, daß ihr ihn erzürnet3707 durch eurer Hände3027 Werk4639.

30 Also redete1696 Mose4872 die Worte1697 dieses Liedes7892 ganz aus8552 vor den Ohren241 der ganzen Gemeine Israel3478:
