Chapter 15

1 BUT it came to pass after a while, in the time of the wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a kid as a present; and he said, I will go in to my wife in the chamber. But her father would not let him go in.

2 And her father said, I surely thought that you had utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your groomsman; behold, her younger sister, who is fairer than she, take her to wife instead.

3 And Samson said to them, Now I shall be more blameless than the Philistines, although I am going to do them mischief.

4 So Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches and tied tail to tail, two foxes together; and he tied a torch between each pair of foxes, between two tails.

5 And when he had set the torches on fire, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the vineyards and olives.

6 Then the Philistines said, Who has done this? And they said, Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife and given her to his groomsman. And the Philistines came up and burned her and her father's family with fire.

7 And Samson said to them, Because you have done this, I will be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.

8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; and he went down and dwelt in a cave of the rock of Atmin.

9 Then the Philistines went up and encamped in Judah.

10 And the men of Judah said, Why have you come up against us? And they answered, We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.

11 Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cave of the rock of Attain, and said to Samson, Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What is this you have done to us? And he said to them, As they did to me, so have I done to them.

12 And they said to him, We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said to them, Swear to me that you will not harm me yourselves.

13 And they said to him, No; but we will bind you and deliver you into their hands; but surely we will not kill you. So they bound him with two new chains and brought him up from the rock.

14 And when he came to Lehi, the Philistines rose up to kill him; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the chains that were on his arms became like flax that has caught fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.

15 And he found a hard jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand and took it, and slew a thousand men with it.

16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass I have made heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of an ass I have slain a thousand men.

17 And it came to pass, when he had finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone out of his hand, and called the name of that place, the Bloody Jawbone.

18 And he was very thirsty, so he called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great victory into the hand of thy servant; and now shall I die of thirst and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?

19 And the LORD God opened the hollow place that was in the jawbone of the ass, and there came water from it; and when he had drunk, his spirit returned and he revived; therefore he called the name of that place En-karna di paka di khmara, to this day.

20 And he judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.

1 But it came1961 to pass within a while after, in the time3117 of wheat2406 harvest,7105 that Samson8123 visited6485 his wife802 with a kid;1423 5795 and he said,559 I will go935 in to my wife802 into the chamber.2315 But her father1 would not suffer5414 him to go935 in.

2 And her father1 said,559 I truly559 thought559 that you had utterly hated8130 her; therefore I gave5414 her to your companion:4828 is not her younger6996 sister269 fairer2896 than she? take1961 her, I pray4994 you, instead8478 of her.

3 And Samson8123 said559 concerning them, Now6471 shall I be more blameless5352 than the Philistines,6430 though3588 I do6213 them a displeasure.7451

4 And Samson8123 went3212 and caught3920 three7969 hundred3967 foxes,7776 and took3947 firebrands,3940 and turned6437 tail2180 to tail,2180 and put7760 a firebrand3940 in the middle8432 between996 two8147 tails.2180

5 And when he had set the brands3940 on fire,784 he let them go7971 into the standing7054 corn7054 of the Philistines,6430 and burnt1197 up both the shocks,1430 and also5704 the standing7054 corn,7054 with the vineyards3754 and olives.2132

6 Then the Philistines6430 said,559 Who4310 has done6213 this?2063 And they answered,559 Samson,8123 the son2860 in law2859 of the Timnite,8554 because3588 he had taken3947 his wife,802 and given5414 her to his companion.4828 And the Philistines6430 came5927 up, and burnt8313 her and her father1 with fire.784

7 And Samson8123 said559 to them, Though518 you have done6213 this,2063 yet3588 518 will I be avenged5358 of you, and after310 that I will cease.2308

8 And he smote5221 them hip7785 and thigh3409 with a great1419 slaughter:4347 and he went3381 down3381 and dwelled3427 in the top5585 of the rock5553 Etam.5862

9 Then the Philistines6430 went5927 up, and pitched2583 in Judah,3063 and spread5203 themselves in Lehi.3896

10 And the men376 of Judah3063 said,559 Why4100 are you come5927 up against5921 us? And they answered,559 To bind631 Samson8123 are we come5927 up, to do6213 to him as he has done6213 to us.

11 Then three7969 thousand505 men376 of Judah3063 went3381 to the top5585 of the rock5553 Etam,5862 and said559 to Samson,8123 Know3045 you not that the Philistines6430 are rulers4910 over us? what4100 is this2063 that you have done6213 to us? And he said559 to them, As they did6213 to me, so3651 have I done6213 to them.

12 And they said559 to him, We are come3381 down3381 to bind631 you, that we may deliver5414 you into the hand3027 of the Philistines.6430 And Samson8123 said559 to them, Swear7650 to me, that you will not fall6293 on me yourselves.859

13 And they spoke559 to him, saying,559 No;3808 but we will bind631 you fast, and deliver5414 you into their hand:3027 but surely we will not kill4191 you. And they bound631 him with two8147 new2319 cords,5688 and brought5927 him up from the rock.5553

14 And when he came935 to Lehi,3896 the Philistines6430 shouted7321 against7125 him: and the Spirit7307 of the LORD3068 came6743 935 mightily on him, and the cords5688 that were on his arms2220 became1961 as flax6593 that was burnt1197 with fire,784 and his bands612 loosed4549 from off5921 his hands.3027

15 And he found4672 a new2961 jawbone3895 of an ass,2543 and put7971 forth7971 his hand,3027 and took3947 it, and slew5221 a thousand505 men376 therewith.

16 And Samson8123 said,559 With the jawbone3895 of an ass,2543 heaps2565 on heaps,2565 with the jaw3895 of an ass2543 have I slain5221 a thousand505 men.376

17 And it came1961 to pass, when he had made an end3615 of speaking,1696 that he cast7993 away the jawbone3895 out of his hand,3027 and called7121 that place4725 Ramathlehi.7437

18 And he was sore3966 thirsty,6770 and called7121 on413 the LORD,3068 and said,559 You have given5414 this2063 great1419 deliverance8668 into the hand3027 of your servant:5650 and now6258 shall I die4191 for thirst,6772 and fall5307 into the hand3027 of the uncircumcised?6189

19 But God430 split1234 an hollow4388 place that was in the jaw,3895 and there came3318 water4325 out of there; and when he had drunk,8354 his spirit7307 came7725 again,7725 and he revived:2421 why5921 3651 he called7121 the name8034 thereof Enhakkore,5875 which834 is in Lehi3896 to this2063 day.3117

20 And he judged8199 Israel3478 in the days3117 of the Philistines6430 twenty6242 years.8141
