Chapter 5

1 THE LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

2 Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper and every one who has a discharge and whosoever has defiled himself;

3 Both male and female shall you put outside the camp, that they may not defile your camps, for I dwell among you.

4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the LORD had said to Moses, so did the children of Israel.

5 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

6 Say to the children of Israel, When a man or a woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do wrong in the sight of the LORD, and that person shall be guilty,

7 Then he shall confess his sins which he has committed; and his guilt shall return upon his own head; and he shall add a fifth part thereof, and give it to him whom he had wronged.

8 And if the person has no kinsman to whom to recompense the trespass, let the trespass offering which they bring on his behalf before the LORD be given to the priest in addition to the ram of the atonement with which an atonement is made for him.

9 And every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel which they bring to the priest shall be his.

10 And every man's hallowed things shall be his; and whatever any man gives to the priest, shall be his.

11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

12 Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, If any man's wife does wrong, and commits a trespass against him,

13 And a man lies with her carnally and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband and the act is kept secret and she is defiled and there is no witness against her, neither is she caught in the act,

14 And the temper of jealousy comes upon him and he be jealous of his wife and she is defiled; or if the temper of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife and she is not defiled,

15 Then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring as his offering a tenth part of an ephah of barley flour; and he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense upon it; for it is a meal offering of jealousy, a meal offering for a memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.

16 And the priest shall bring her near, and she shall stand before the LORD;

17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and some of the dust that is in the base of the altar of the tabernacle the priest shall take and put it into the water;

18 And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD and shave the woman's head and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering; and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water of testing;

19 And the priest shall charge the woman by an oath, and say to her, If no man has lain with you besides your husband, and if you have not done wrong and become unclean, be absolved from these charges by this bitter water of testing;

20 But if you have done wrong by having lain with another man besides your husband, and if you have defiled yourself, and some other man has lain with you besides your husband;

21 Then the priest shall adjure the woman with the oaths of cursing, and the priest shall say to the woman, The LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the LORD makes your thigh to rot and your belly to swell;

22 And this water of testing shall go into your belly and make your belly to swell and your thighs to rot; and the woman shall say, Amen, amen.

23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot out the writing in the water of testing;

24 And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water of testing; and the water of testing shall enter into her, to try her.

25 Then the priest shall take the jealousy meal offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the meal offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar;

26 And the priest shall take some of the meal offering as the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water.

27 And when he has made her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and has committed iniquity against her husband, the water of testing shall enter into her, and shall try her, and if her belly shall swell and her thighs shall rot, then that woman shall be a curse among her people.

28 But if the woman has not defiled herself, but is pure, then she shall be absolved, and shall bear a male child.

29 This is the law of jealousy when a woman does wrong by having lain with another man besides her husband and defiles herself,

30 Or when the temper of jealousy comes upon a man and he is jealous over his wife and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law;

31 Then the man shall be blameless from guilt, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.

1 Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

2 „Накажи Ізраїлевим синам, і нехай повисилають з табо́ру кожного прокаже́ного, і кожного течи́вого, і кожного нечистого через дото́ркнення до мертвого тіла.

3 І чоловіка й жінку бу́дете висилати, поза та́бір будете висилати їх, і вони не занечистять табо́рів своїх, що Я серед них пробува́ю“.

4 І зробили так Ізраїлеві сини, і повисила́ли їх поза та́бір, — як Господь промовляв був Мойсеєві, так зробили Ізраїлеві сини.

5 І Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

6 „Промовляй до Ізраїлевих синів: Чоловік або жінка, коли зробить який лю́дський гріх, чинячи тим спроневі́рення проти Господа, і завинить душа та,

7 то вони визнають свій гріх, що зробили, і кожен зверне найперше ціну провини своєї, і додасть до неї п'ятину її, та й дасть тому, кому завинив він.

8 А якщо в того чоловіка нема викупника́, щоб йому звернути ту ціну провини, то провина та буде зве́рнена Господе́ві, і буде це священикові, опріч барана очищення, що ним очистить його.

9 А кожне прино́шення зо всяких святощів Ізра́їлевих синів, що принесу́ть священикові, буде йому.

10 І що́ хто посвяти́ть, буде йому. Що́ хто дасть священикові, буде йому́“.

11 І Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

12 „Промовляй до Ізраїлевих синів і скажи їм: Кожен чоловік, коли жінка його зрадить і спроневірить його́,

13 і буде хто злягатися з нею і буде затаєне від очей її чоловіка, і буде захо́ване, і вона занечиститься, а свідка проти неї нема, і вона не буде схо́плена,

14 та на ньому пере́йде дух ревнощів, і він буде ревни́вий за свою жінку, що вона занечи́щена; або перейде на ньому дух ревнощів, і він буде ревнивий за свою жінку, а вона не була занечищена,

15 то приведе́ той чоловік свою жінку до священика, і принесе за неї жертву її, — десяту частину ефи́ я́чної муки, оливи на неї виллє, і не дасть на неї ладану, бо це хлі́бна жертва ревнощів, жертва прига́дувальна, що прига́дує провину.

16 І священик приведе її, і поставить перед Господнім лицем.

17 І ві́зьме священик святої води в гли́няну посудину, і пороху, що буде на долівці скинії, ві́зьме священик, та й дасть до води.

18 І поставить священик ту жінку перед лицем Господнім, і відкриє го́лову тієї жінки, і дасть на руки її хлібну жертву прига́дувальну, — це хлібна жертва ре́внощів. А в руці священика буде гірка вода, що наводить прокля́ття.

19 І закляне її священик та й скаже до жінки: „Якщо ніхто не лежав із тобою, і якщо ти не зрадила нечистим гріхом, живши з чоловіком своїм, — очисться від гіркої води, що наводить прокляття!

20 А коли ж ти зрадила, живши з чоловіком своїм, і коли ти занечи́стилась, і хтось злігся з тобою, крім твого чоловіка“, —

21 і закляне священик ту жінку клятвою прокляття, і скаже священик тій жінці: „Нехай дасть тебе Господь на прокляття та клятву серед наро́ду твого тим, що Господь зробить стегно́ твоє опалим, а живіт твій напухлим,

22 і вві́йде ця вода, що наводить прокляття, до нутра́ твого, щоб зробити живіт напухлим, і щоб зробити стегно́ опалим“. А жінка та скаже: „Амінь, амінь!

23 І напише священик ті прокляття на звої, й обмиє гірко́ю водою,

24 і напо́їть ту жінку гіркою водою, що наводить прокляття; і вві́йде в неї та вода, що наводить прокляття, і дає гіркий біль.

25 І ві́зьме священик із руки тієї жінки ту хлібну жертву ревнощів, і буде колиха́ти ту хлібну жертву перед Господнім лицем, та й принесе її до жертівника.

26 І ві́зьме священик жменю з хлібної жертви, як прига́дувальну частину, та й спалить на жертівнику. А по́тім напоїть ту жінку водою.

27 І напоїть водою, і станеться, — якщо була вона занечищена й спроневірила своє́му чоловікові, то ввійде в неї та вода, що наводить прокляття, і дасть гірки́й біль, — і опухне живіт її, і западе стегно́ її, і стане та жінка прокляттям серед народу свого.

28 А якщо та жінка не була занечищена, і чиста вона, то буде очищена, і буде здатна родити дітей.

29 Оце зако́н про ревнощі, коли зрадить жінка чоловікові своєму, і занечиститься,

30 або коли на чоловіка на́йде дух ревнощів, і він буде ревнивий за жінку свою, то поставить ту жінку перед Господнім лицем, а священик виконає над нею ввесь цей зако́н.

31 І буде очищений той чоловік від гріха́, а жінка та понесе свій гріх“.

2 „Накажи Ізраїлевим синам, і нехай повисилають з табо́ру кожного прокаже́ного, і кожного течи́вого, і кожного нечистого через дото́ркнення до мертвого тіла.

3 Both male and female shall you put outside the camp, that they may not defile your camps, for I dwell among you.

3 І чоловіка й жінку бу́дете висилати, поза та́бір будете висилати їх, і вони не занечистять табо́рів своїх, що Я серед них пробува́ю“.

4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the LORD had said to Moses, so did the children of Israel.

4 І зробили так Ізраїлеві сини, і повисила́ли їх поза та́бір, — як Господь промовляв був Мойсеєві, так зробили Ізраїлеві сини.

5 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

5 І Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

6 Say to the children of Israel, When a man or a woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do wrong in the sight of the LORD, and that person shall be guilty,

6 „Промовляй до Ізраїлевих синів: Чоловік або жінка, коли зробить який лю́дський гріх, чинячи тим спроневі́рення проти Господа, і завинить душа та,

7 Then he shall confess his sins which he has committed; and his guilt shall return upon his own head; and he shall add a fifth part thereof, and give it to him whom he had wronged.

7 то вони визнають свій гріх, що зробили, і кожен зверне найперше ціну провини своєї, і додасть до неї п'ятину її, та й дасть тому, кому завинив він.

8 А якщо в того чоловіка нема викупника́, щоб йому звернути ту ціну провини, то провина та буде зве́рнена Господе́ві, і буде це священикові, опріч барана очищення, що ним очистить його.

9 А кожне прино́шення зо всяких святощів Ізра́їлевих синів, що принесу́ть священикові, буде йому.

10 And every man's hallowed things shall be his; and whatever any man gives to the priest, shall be his.

10 І що́ хто посвяти́ть, буде йому. Що́ хто дасть священикові, буде йому́“.

11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

11 І Господь промовляв до Мойсея, говорячи:

12 Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, If any man's wife does wrong, and commits a trespass against him,

12 „Промовляй до Ізраїлевих синів і скажи їм: Кожен чоловік, коли жінка його зрадить і спроневірить його́,

13 і буде хто злягатися з нею і буде затаєне від очей її чоловіка, і буде захо́ване, і вона занечиститься, а свідка проти неї нема, і вона не буде схо́плена,

14 And the temper of jealousy comes upon him and he be jealous of his wife and she is defiled; or if the temper of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife and she is not defiled,

14 та на ньому пере́йде дух ревнощів, і він буде ревни́вий за свою жінку, що вона занечи́щена; або перейде на ньому дух ревнощів, і він буде ревнивий за свою жінку, а вона не була занечищена,

15 Then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and he shall bring as his offering a tenth part of an ephah of barley flour; and he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense upon it; for it is a meal offering of jealousy, a meal offering for a memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.

15 то приведе́ той чоловік свою жінку до священика, і принесе за неї жертву її, — десяту частину ефи́ я́чної муки, оливи на неї виллє, і не дасть на неї ладану, бо це хлі́бна жертва ревнощів, жертва прига́дувальна, що прига́дує провину.

16 And the priest shall bring her near, and she shall stand before the LORD;

16 І священик приведе її, і поставить перед Господнім лицем.

17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and some of the dust that is in the base of the altar of the tabernacle the priest shall take and put it into the water;

17 І ві́зьме священик святої води в гли́няну посудину, і пороху, що буде на долівці скинії, ві́зьме священик, та й дасть до води.

18 And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD and shave the woman's head and put the offering of memorial in her hands, which is the jealousy offering; and the priest shall have in his hand the bitter water of testing;

18 І поставить священик ту жінку перед лицем Господнім, і відкриє го́лову тієї жінки, і дасть на руки її хлібну жертву прига́дувальну, — це хлібна жертва ре́внощів. А в руці священика буде гірка вода, що наводить прокля́ття.

19 And the priest shall charge the woman by an oath, and say to her, If no man has lain with you besides your husband, and if you have not done wrong and become unclean, be absolved from these charges by this bitter water of testing;

19 І закляне її священик та й скаже до жінки: „Якщо ніхто не лежав із тобою, і якщо ти не зрадила нечистим гріхом, живши з чоловіком своїм, — очисться від гіркої води, що наводить прокляття!

20 But if you have done wrong by having lain with another man besides your husband, and if you have defiled yourself, and some other man has lain with you besides your husband;

20 А коли ж ти зрадила, живши з чоловіком своїм, і коли ти занечи́стилась, і хтось злігся з тобою, крім твого чоловіка“, —

21 Then the priest shall adjure the woman with the oaths of cursing, and the priest shall say to the woman, The LORD make you a curse and an oath among your people, when the LORD makes your thigh to rot and your belly to swell;

21 і закляне священик ту жінку клятвою прокляття, і скаже священик тій жінці: „Нехай дасть тебе Господь на прокляття та клятву серед наро́ду твого тим, що Господь зробить стегно́ твоє опалим, а живіт твій напухлим,

22 And this water of testing shall go into your belly and make your belly to swell and your thighs to rot; and the woman shall say, Amen, amen.

22 і вві́йде ця вода, що наводить прокляття, до нутра́ твого, щоб зробити живіт напухлим, і щоб зробити стегно́ опалим“. А жінка та скаже: „Амінь, амінь!

23 And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and he shall blot out the writing in the water of testing;

23 І напише священик ті прокляття на звої, й обмиє гірко́ю водою,

24 And he shall make the woman drink the bitter water of testing; and the water of testing shall enter into her, to try her.

24 і напо́їть ту жінку гіркою водою, що наводить прокляття; і вві́йде в неї та вода, що наводить прокляття, і дає гіркий біль.

25 Then the priest shall take the jealousy meal offering out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the meal offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar;

25 І ві́зьме священик із руки тієї жінки ту хлібну жертву ревнощів, і буде колиха́ти ту хлібну жертву перед Господнім лицем, та й принесе її до жертівника.

26 And the priest shall take some of the meal offering as the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water.

26 І ві́зьме священик жменю з хлібної жертви, як прига́дувальну частину, та й спалить на жертівнику. А по́тім напоїть ту жінку водою.

27 And when he has made her drink the water, if she has defiled herself and has committed iniquity against her husband, the water of testing shall enter into her, and shall try her, and if her belly shall swell and her thighs shall rot, then that woman shall be a curse among her people.

27 І напоїть водою, і станеться, — якщо була вона занечищена й спроневірила своє́му чоловікові, то ввійде в неї та вода, що наводить прокляття, і дасть гірки́й біль, — і опухне живіт її, і западе стегно́ її, і стане та жінка прокляттям серед народу свого.

28 But if the woman has not defiled herself, but is pure, then she shall be absolved, and shall bear a male child.

28 А якщо та жінка не була занечищена, і чиста вона, то буде очищена, і буде здатна родити дітей.

29 This is the law of jealousy when a woman does wrong by having lain with another man besides her husband and defiles herself,

29 Оце зако́н про ревнощі, коли зрадить жінка чоловікові своєму, і занечиститься,

30 Or when the temper of jealousy comes upon a man and he is jealous over his wife and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law;

30 або коли на чоловіка на́йде дух ревнощів, і він буде ревнивий за жінку свою, то поставить ту жінку перед Господнім лицем, а священик виконає над нею ввесь цей зако́н.

31 Then the man shall be blameless from guilt, but the woman shall bear her iniquity.

31 І буде очищений той чоловік від гріха́, а жінка та понесе свій гріх“.
