Chapter 9

1 Hear,8085 O Israel:3478 You are to pass5674 over5674 Jordan3383 this day,3117 to go935 in to possess3423 nations1471 greater1419 and mightier6099 than yourself, cities5892 great1419 and fenced1219 up to heaven,8064

2 A people5971 great1419 and tall,7311 the children1121 of the Anakims,6062 whom834 you know,3045 and of whom834 you have heard8085 say, Who4310 can stand3320 before6440 the children1121 of Anak!6061

3 Understand3045 therefore this day,3117 that the LORD3068 your God430 is he which goes5674 over5674 before6440 you; as a consuming398 fire784 he shall destroy8045 them, and he shall bring3665 them down3665 before your face: so shall you drive3423 them out, and destroy6 them quickly,4118 as the LORD3068 has said1696 to you.

4 Speak559 not you in your heart,3824 after that the LORD3068 your God430 has cast1920 them out from before6440 you, saying,559 For my righteousness6666 the LORD3068 has brought935 me in to possess3423 this2088 land:776 but for the wickedness7564 of these428 nations1471 the LORD3068 does drive3423 them out from before6440 you.

5 Not for your righteousness,6666 or for the uprightness3476 of your heart,3824 do you go935 to possess3423 their land:776 but for the wickedness7564 of these428 nations1471 the LORD3068 your God430 does drive3423 them out from before6440 you, and that he may perform6965 the word1697 which834 the LORD3068 swore7650 to your fathers,1 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Jacob.3290

6 Understand3045 therefore, that the LORD3068 your God430 gives5414 you not this2063 good2896 land776 to possess3423 it for your righteousness;6666 for you are a stiff necked7186 6203 people.5971

7 Remember,2142 and forget7911 not, how834 you provoked the LORD3068 your God430 to wrath7107 in the wilderness:4057 from the day3117 that you did depart3318 out of the land776 of Egypt,4714 until5704 you came935 to this2088 place,4725 you have been1961 rebellious4784 against5973 the LORD.3068

8 Also in Horeb2722 you provoked the LORD3068 to wrath,7107 so that the LORD3068 was angry599 with you to have destroyed8045 you.

9 When I was gone5927 up into the mount2022 to receive3947 the tables3871 of stone,68 even the tables3871 of the covenant1285 which834 the LORD3068 made3772 with you, then I stayed3427 in the mount2022 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 I neither3808 did eat398 bread3899 nor3808 drink8354 water:4325

10 And the LORD3068 delivered5414 to me two8147 tables3871 of stone68 written3789 with the finger676 of God;430 and on5921 them was written according to all3605 the words,1697 which834 the LORD3068 spoke1696 with you in the mount2022 out of the middle8432 of the fire784 in the day3117 of the assembly.6951

11 And it came1961 to pass at the end7093 of forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 that the LORD3068 gave5414 me the two8147 tables3871 of stone,68 even the tables3871 of the covenant.1285

12 And the LORD3068 said559 to me, Arise,6965 get3381 you down3381 quickly4118 from hence;2088 for your people5971 which you have brought3318 forth3318 out of Egypt4714 have corrupted7843 themselves; they are quickly4118 turned5493 aside out of the way1870 which834 I commanded6680 them; they have made6213 them a molten4541 image.

13 Furthermore the LORD3068 spoke559 to me, saying,559 I have seen7200 this2088 people,5971 and, behold,2009 it is a stiff necked7186 6203 people:5971

14 Let me alone,7503 that I may destroy8045 them, and blot4229 out their name8034 from under8478 heaven:8064 and I will make6213 of you a nation1471 mightier6099 and greater7227 than they.

15 So I turned6437 and came3381 down3381 from the mount,2022 and the mount2022 burned1197 with fire:784 and the two8147 tables3871 of the covenant1285 were in my two8147 hands.3027

16 And I looked,7200 and, behold,2009 you had sinned2398 against the LORD3068 your God,430 and had made6213 you a molten4541 calf:5695 you had turned5493 aside quickly4118 out of the way1870 which834 the LORD3068 had commanded6680 you.

17 And I took8610 the two8147 tables,3871 and cast7993 them out of my two8147 hands,3027 and broke7665 them before your eyes.5869

18 And I fell5307 down before6440 the LORD,3068 as at the first,7223 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights:3915 I did neither3808 eat398 bread,3899 nor3808 drink8354 water,4325 because5921 of all3605 your sins2403 which834 you sinned,2398 in doing6213 wickedly7451 in the sight5869 of the LORD,3068 to provoke him to anger.3707

19 For I was afraid3025 of the anger639 and hot2534 displeasure,2534 with which834 the LORD3068 was wroth7107 against5921 you to destroy8045 you. But the LORD3068 listened8085 to me at that time6471 also.1571

20 And the LORD3068 was very3966 angry599 with Aaron175 to have destroyed8045 him: and I prayed6419 for Aaron175 also1571 the same1931 time.6256

21 And I took3947 your sin,2403 the calf5695 which834 you had made,6213 and burnt8313 it with fire,784 and stamped3807 it, and ground2912 it very3190 small,3190 even until5704 it was as small1854 as dust:6083 and I cast7993 the dust6083 thereof into413 the brook5158 that descended3381 out of the mount.2022

22 And at Taberah,8404 and at Massah,4532 and at Kibrothhattaavah,6914 you provoked the LORD3068 to wrath.7107

23 Likewise when the LORD3068 sent7971 you from Kadeshbarnea,6947 saying,559 Go5927 up and possess3423 the land776 which834 I have given5414 you; then you rebelled4784 against the commandment6310 of the LORD3068 your God,430 and you believed539 him not, nor3808 listened8085 to his voice.6963

24 You have been1961 rebellious4784 against5973 the LORD3068 from the day3117 that I knew3045 you.

25 Thus I fell5307 down before6440 the LORD3068 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 as I fell5307 down at the first; because3588 the LORD3068 had said559 he would destroy8045 you.

26 I prayed6419 therefore to the LORD,3068 and said,559 O Lord136 GOD,3069 destroy7843 not your people5971 and your inheritance,5159 which834 you have redeemed6299 through your greatness,1433 which834 you have brought3318 forth3318 out of Egypt4714 with a mighty2389 hand.3027

27 Remember2142 your servants,5650 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Jacob;3290 look6437 not to the stubbornness7190 of this2088 people,5971 nor to their wickedness,7562 nor to their sin:2403

28 Lest6435 the land776 from where834 8033 you brought3318 us out say,559 Because the LORD3068 was not able3201 to bring935 them into413 the land776 which834 he promised1696 them, and because he hated8135 them, he has brought3318 them out to slay4191 them in the wilderness.4057

29 Yet they are your people5971 and your inheritance,5159 which834 you brought3318 out by your mighty1419 power3581 and by your stretched5186 out arm.2220

Chapter 9

1 HEAR, O Israel: You are to cross the Jordan this day, to go in to destroy nations greater and mightier than yourselves, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

2 A people great and tall, the sons of giants, whom you know, and of whom you have heard it said, No man can stand up before the giants!

3 And that you may know therefore this day that the LORD your God is he who will go over before you; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall defeat them before you; so that you shall rout them, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

4 Do not say in your heart, after the LORD your God has defeated them from before you, It is because of my righteousness that the LORD has brought me in to possess this land; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is destroying them from before you.

5 It is not because of your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, that you are going in to possess their land; but it is because of the sins of these nations the LORD your God is destroying them from before you, and that he may perform the word which he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

6 Know therefore, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess it; for you are a stiffnecked people.

7 Remember, and forget not, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that you came out of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so the LORD was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.

9 When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, and I abode on the mountain forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water;

10 And the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, written with the finger of God; and on them were written all the words which the LORD had spoken with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

11 And at the end of forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

12 And the LORD said to me, Arise and go down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; and they have made themselves a molten image.

13 Furthermore the LORD said to me, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

14 Now let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.

15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made to yourselves a molten calf; and you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD your God had commanded you.

17 And I took the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

18 Then I prayed before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing evil in the presence of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

19 For I was afraid of the wrath and the anger wherewith the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened to me at that time also.

20 And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to have destroyed him; and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

21 And I took the calf by which you sinned, which you had made, and burned it with fire, and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw the dust of it into the brook that flowed down out of the mountain.

22 And in heat, and in trials, and at the Kabrey di ragrigtha the people lusted for meat; you provoked the LORD to anger.

23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Rakim-gia, and said to you, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you did not believe him, nor hearken to his voice.

24 You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

25 Thus I prayed before the LORD forty days and forty nights, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

26 I prayed therefore before the LORD, and said, O LORD God, destroy not thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou hast saved through thy greatness, whom thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 But remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sins;

28 Lest the inhabitants of the land out of which thou didst bring them say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

29 Yet they are thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy outstretched arm.

1 Hear,8085 O Israel:3478 You are to pass5674 over5674 Jordan3383 this day,3117 to go935 in to possess3423 nations1471 greater1419 and mightier6099 than yourself, cities5892 great1419 and fenced1219 up to heaven,8064

1 HEAR, O Israel: You are to cross the Jordan this day, to go in to destroy nations greater and mightier than yourselves, cities great and fenced up to heaven,

2 A people5971 great1419 and tall,7311 the children1121 of the Anakims,6062 whom834 you know,3045 and of whom834 you have heard8085 say, Who4310 can stand3320 before6440 the children1121 of Anak!6061

2 A people great and tall, the sons of giants, whom you know, and of whom you have heard it said, No man can stand up before the giants!

3 And that you may know therefore this day that the LORD your God is he who will go over before you; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall defeat them before you; so that you shall rout them, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

4 Do not say in your heart, after the LORD your God has defeated them from before you, It is because of my righteousness that the LORD has brought me in to possess this land; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is destroying them from before you.

5 It is not because of your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, that you are going in to possess their land; but it is because of the sins of these nations the LORD your God is destroying them from before you, and that he may perform the word which he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

6 Understand3045 therefore, that the LORD3068 your God430 gives5414 you not this2063 good2896 land776 to possess3423 it for your righteousness;6666 for you are a stiff necked7186 6203 people.5971

6 Know therefore, that it is not because of your righteousness that the LORD your God is giving you this good land to possess it; for you are a stiffnecked people.

7 Remember, and forget not, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness; from the day that you came out of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

8 Also in Horeb2722 you provoked the LORD3068 to wrath,7107 so that the LORD3068 was angry599 with you to have destroyed8045 you.

8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, so the LORD was angry enough with you to have destroyed you.

9 When I went up on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the LORD made with you, and I abode on the mountain forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water;

10 And the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, written with the finger of God; and on them were written all the words which the LORD had spoken with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.

11 And it came1961 to pass at the end7093 of forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 that the LORD3068 gave5414 me the two8147 tables3871 of stone,68 even the tables3871 of the covenant.1285

11 And at the end of forty days and forty nights, the LORD gave me two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant.

12 And the LORD said to me, Arise and go down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; and they have made themselves a molten image.

13 Furthermore the LORD3068 spoke559 to me, saying,559 I have seen7200 this2088 people,5971 and, behold,2009 it is a stiff necked7186 6203 people:5971

13 Furthermore the LORD said to me, I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

14 Let me alone,7503 that I may destroy8045 them, and blot4229 out their name8034 from under8478 heaven:8064 and I will make6213 of you a nation1471 mightier6099 and greater7227 than they.

14 Now let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.

15 So I turned6437 and came3381 down3381 from the mount,2022 and the mount2022 burned1197 with fire:784 and the two8147 tables3871 of the covenant1285 were in my two8147 hands.3027

15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

16 And I looked,7200 and, behold,2009 you had sinned2398 against the LORD3068 your God,430 and had made6213 you a molten4541 calf:5695 you had turned5493 aside quickly4118 out of the way1870 which834 the LORD3068 had commanded6680 you.

16 And I looked, and behold, you had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made to yourselves a molten calf; and you had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD your God had commanded you.

17 And I took8610 the two8147 tables,3871 and cast7993 them out of my two8147 hands,3027 and broke7665 them before your eyes.5869

17 And I took the two tablets, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

18 Then I prayed before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water, because of all your sins which you sinned, in doing evil in the presence of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

19 For I was afraid3025 of the anger639 and hot2534 displeasure,2534 with which834 the LORD3068 was wroth7107 against5921 you to destroy8045 you. But the LORD3068 listened8085 to me at that time6471 also.1571

19 For I was afraid of the wrath and the anger wherewith the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened to me at that time also.

20 And the LORD3068 was very3966 angry599 with Aaron175 to have destroyed8045 him: and I prayed6419 for Aaron175 also1571 the same1931 time.6256

20 And the LORD was angry enough with Aaron to have destroyed him; and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.

21 And I took the calf by which you sinned, which you had made, and burned it with fire, and ground it very small, until it was as fine as dust; and I threw the dust of it into the brook that flowed down out of the mountain.

22 And at Taberah,8404 and at Massah,4532 and at Kibrothhattaavah,6914 you provoked the LORD3068 to wrath.7107

22 And in heat, and in trials, and at the Kabrey di ragrigtha the people lusted for meat; you provoked the LORD to anger.

23 Likewise when the LORD sent you from Rakim-gia, and said to you, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you did not believe him, nor hearken to his voice.

24 You have been1961 rebellious4784 against5973 the LORD3068 from the day3117 that I knew3045 you.

24 You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

25 Thus I fell5307 down before6440 the LORD3068 forty705 days3117 and forty705 nights,3915 as I fell5307 down at the first; because3588 the LORD3068 had said559 he would destroy8045 you.

25 Thus I prayed before the LORD forty days and forty nights, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.

26 I prayed therefore before the LORD, and said, O LORD God, destroy not thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou hast saved through thy greatness, whom thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 Remember2142 your servants,5650 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Jacob;3290 look6437 not to the stubbornness7190 of this2088 people,5971 nor to their wickedness,7562 nor to their sin:2403

27 But remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; look not to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sins;

28 Lest the inhabitants of the land out of which thou didst bring them say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.

29 Yet they are your people5971 and your inheritance,5159 which834 you brought3318 out by your mighty1419 power3581 and by your stretched5186 out arm.2220

29 Yet they are thy people and thy inheritance, whom thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy outstretched arm.
