Chapter 6

1 On that night3915 could5074 not the king4428 sleep,8142 and he commanded559 to bring935 the book5612 of records2146 of the chronicles;1697 3117 and they were read7121 before6440 the king.4428

2 And it was found4672 written,3789 that Mordecai4782 had told5046 of Bigthana904 and Teresh,8657 two8147 of the king's4428 chamberlains,5631 the keepers8104 of the door,5592 who834 sought1245 to lay7971 hand3027 on the king4428 Ahasuerus.325

3 And the king4428 said,559 What4100 honor3366 and dignity1420 has been done6213 to Mordecai4782 for this?2088 Then said559 the king's4428 servants5288 that ministered8334 to him, There is nothing3808 1697 done6213 for him.

4 And the king4428 said,559 Who4310 is in the court?2691 Now Haman2001 was come935 into the outward2435 court2691 of the king's4428 house,1004 to speak559 to the king4428 to hang8518 Mordecai4782 on5921 the gallows6086 that he had prepared3559 for him.

5 And the king's4428 servants5288 said559 to him, Behold,2009 Haman2001 stands5975 in the court.2691 And the king4428 said,559 Let him come935 in.

6 So Haman2001 came935 in. And the king4428 said559 to him, What4100 shall be done6213 to the man376 whom the king4428 delights2654 to honor?3366 Now Haman2001 thought559 in his heart,3820 To whom would the king4428 delight2654 to do6213 honor3366 more3148 than to myself?

7 And Haman2001 answered559 the king,4428 For the man376 whom4310 the king4428 delights2654 to honor,3366

8 Let the royal4438 apparel3830 be brought935 which834 the king4428 uses to wear,3847 and the horse5483 that the king4428 rides7392 on, and the crown3804 royal4438 which834 is set5414 on his head:7218

9 And let this2088 apparel3830 and horse5483 be delivered5414 to the hand3027 of one376 of the king's4428 most6579 noble6579 princes,8269 that they may array3847 the man376 with whom834 the king4428 delights2654 to honor,3366 and bring7392 him on horseback7392 through the street7339 of the city,5892 and proclaim7121 before6440 him, Thus3602 shall it be done6213 to the man376 whom834 the king4428 delights2654 to honor.3366

10 Then the king4428 said559 to Haman,2001 Make haste,4116 and take3947 the apparel3830 and the horse,5483 as you have said,1696 and do6213 even so3651 to Mordecai4782 the Jew,3064 that sits3427 at the king's4428 gate:8179 let nothing1697 fail5307 of all3605 that you have spoken.1696

11 Then took3947 Haman2001 the apparel3830 and the horse,5483 and arrayed3847 Mordecai,4782 and brought7392 him on horseback7392 through the street7339 of the city,5892 and proclaimed7121 before6440 him, Thus3602 shall it be done6213 to the man376 whom834 the king4428 delights2654 to honor.3366

12 And Mordecai4782 came7725 again7725 to the king's4428 gate.8179 But Haman2001 hurried1765 to his house1004 mourning,57 and having his head7218 covered.2645

13 And Haman2001 told5608 Zeresh2238 his wife802 and all3605 his friends157 every3605 thing that had befallen7136 him. Then said559 his wise2450 men and Zeresh2238 his wife802 to him, If518 Mordecai4782 be of the seed2233 of the Jews,3064 before6440 whom834 you have begun2490 to fall,5307 you shall not prevail3201 against him, but shall surely3588 fall5307 before6440 him.

14 And while they were yet5750 talking1696 with him, came935 the king's4428 chamberlains,5631 and hurried926 to bring935 Haman2001 to the banquet4960 that Esther635 had prepared.6213

1 ON that night the king could not sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of the records of the chronicles; and they were read be fore the king.

2 And it was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs, the keepers of the door, who had sought to lay hands on King Akhshirash.

3 And the king said, What honor and dignity have been conferred upon Mordecai for this? Then the king's servants and his ministers said to him, There is nothing done for him.

4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outer court of the king's house to speak to the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

5 So the king's servants said to him, Behold, Haman is standing in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

6 So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor? Now Haman thought in his heart, Whom would the king delight to honor more than myself?

7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delights to honor,

8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king wears and the horse that the king rides, and let the royal crown be set upon his head:

9 And let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, and let him array the man whom the king delights to honor and mount him on the horse and take him round through the streets of the city and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king de lights to honor.

10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste and take the apparel and the horse, as you have said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king's gate; let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.

11 Then Haman took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the streets of the city and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.

12 And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman went to his house mourning and having his head covered.

13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife everything that had befallen him. Then his friends and Zeresh his wife said to him, If Mordecai is of the Jewish race, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him, but will surely again be humbled before him.

14 And while he was still talking with them, the king's couriers arrived and hastened to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had pre pared.
