Chapter 17

1 And after3326 six1803 days2250 Jesus2424 takes3880 Peter,4074 James,2385 and John2491 his brother,80 and brings399 them up into1519 an high5308 mountain3735 apart,2596

2 And was transfigured3339 before1715 them: and his face4383 did shine2989 as the sun,2246 and his raiment2440 was white3022 as the light.5457

3 And, behold,2400 there appeared3700 to them Moses3475 and Elias2243 talking4814 with him.

4 Then1161 answered611 Peter,4074 and said2036 to Jesus,2424 Lord,2962 it is good2570 for us to be here:5602 if1487 you will,2309 let us make4160 here5602 three5140 tabernacles;4633 one3391 for you, and one3391 for Moses,3475 and one3391 for Elias.2243

5 While he yet2089 spoke,2980 behold,2400 a bright5460 cloud3507 overshadowed1982 them: and behold2400 a voice5456 out of the cloud,3507 which said,3004 This3778 is my beloved27 Son,5207 in whom3739 I am well2106 pleased;2106 hear191 you him.

6 And when the disciples3101 heard191 it, they fell4098 on1909 their face,4383 and were sore4970 afraid.5399

7 And Jesus2424 came4334 and touched680 them, and said,2036 Arise,1453 and be not afraid.5399

8 And when they had lifted1869 up their eyes,3788 they saw1492 no3762 man,3762 save1508 Jesus2424 only.3441

9 And as they came2597 down2597 from the mountain,3735 Jesus2424 charged1781 them, saying,3004 Tell2036 the vision3705 to no3762 man,3367 until2193 the Son5207 of man444 be risen450 again450 from the dead.3498

10 And his disciples3101 asked1905 him, saying,3004 Why5101 then3767 say3004 the scribes1122 that Elias2243 must1163 first4412 come?2064

11 And Jesus2424 answered611 and said2036 to them, Elias2243 truly3303 shall first4412 come,2064 and restore600 all3956 things.

12 But I say3004 to you, That Elias2243 is come2064 already,2235 and they knew1921 him not, but have done4160 to him whatever3745 they listed.2309 Likewise3779 shall also2532 the Son5207 of man444 suffer3958 of them.

13 Then5119 the disciples3101 understood4920 that he spoke2036 to them of John2491 the Baptist.910

14 And when they were come2064 to the multitude,3793 there came4334 to him a certain man,444 kneeling1120 down to him, and saying,3004

15 Lord,2962 have mercy1653 on my son:5207 for he is lunatic,4583 and sore2560 vexed:3958 for often4178 he falls4098 into1519 the fire,4442 and oft4178 into1519 the water.5204

16 And I brought4374 him to your disciples,3101 and they could1410 not cure2323 him.

17 Then1161 Jesus2424 answered611 and said,2036 O faithless571 and perverse1294 generation,1074 how2193 long2193 shall I be with you? how4219 long2193 shall I suffer430 you? bring5342 him here5602 to me.

18 And Jesus2424 rebuked2008 the devil;1140 and he departed1831 out of him: and the child3816 was cured2323 from that very1565 hour.5610

19 Then5119 came4334 the disciples3101 to Jesus2424 apart,2596 2398 and said,2036 Why1302 could1410 not we cast1544 him out?

20 And Jesus2424 said2036 to them, Because1223 of your5216 unbelief:570 for truly281 I say3004 to you, If1437 you have2192 faith4102 as a grain2848 of mustard4615 seed, you shall say2046 to this5129 mountain,3735 Remove3327 hence1782 to yonder1563 place; and it shall remove;3327 and nothing3762 shall be impossible101 to you.

21 However, this5124 kind1085 goes1607 not out but by prayer4335 and fasting.3521

22 And while they stayed390 in Galilee,1056 Jesus2424 said2036 to them, The Son5207 of man444 shall be betrayed3860 into1519 the hands5495 of men:444

23 And they shall kill615 him, and the third5154 day2250 he shall be raised1453 again.1453 And they were exceeding4970 sorry.3076

24 And when they were come2064 to Capernaum,2584 they that received2983 tribute1323 money came4334 to Peter,4074 and said,2036 Does not your5216 master1320 pay5055 tribute?1323

25 He said,3004 Yes.3483 And when3753 he was come1525 into1519 the house,3614 Jesus2424 prevented4399 him, saying,3004 What5101 think1380 you, Simon?4613 of whom5101 do the kings935 of the earth1093 take2983 custom5056 or2228 tribute?2778 of their own children,5207 or2228 of strangers?245

26 Peter4074 said3004 to him, Of strangers.245 Jesus2424 said5346 to him, Then686 are the children5207 free.1658

27 Notwithstanding, lest2443 3361 we should offend4624 them, go4198 you to the sea,2281 and cast906 an hook,44 and take142 up the fish2486 that first4413 comes305 up; and when you have opened455 his mouth,4750 you shall find2147 a piece of money:4715 that take,2983 and give1325 to them for me and you.

Chapter 17

1 AND after six days Jesus took Peter and James and his brother John, and brought them up to a high mountain alone.

2 And Jesus was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes turned white like light.

3 And there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, as they were talking with him.

4 Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, My Lord, it is better for us to remain here; and if you wish, we will make three shelters here, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

5 And while he was speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved Son, I am pleased with him; hear him.

6 When the disciples heard it, they threw themselves on their faces, and they were greatly frightened.

7 And Jesus came near them and touched them, and said, Arise, do not be afraid.

8 And they raised up their eyes, and they saw no man, except Jesus alone.

9 And as they were going down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, and said to them, Do not speak of this vision in the presence of anyone, until the Son of man rises from the dead.

10 And his disciples asked him, and said, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?

11 Jesus answered and said to them, Elijah will come first, so that everything might be fulfilled.

12 But I say to you, Elijah has already come, and they did not know him, and they did to him whatever they pleased. Thus also the Son of man is bound to suffer from them.

13 Then the disciples understood that what he had told them was about John the Baptist.

14 And when they came to the people, a man approached him and knelt on his knees, and said to him,

15 My Lord, have mercy on me; my son is an epileptic and has become worse; he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

16 And I brought him to your disciples, but they were not able to heal him.

17 Jesus answered and said, O faithless and crooked generation, how long shall I be with you? and how long shall I preach to you? bring him here to me.

18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him; and the boy was healed from that very hour.

19 Then the disciples came up to Jesus when he was alone, and said to him, Why could we not heal him?

20 Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for truly I say to you, If there is faith in you even as a grain of mustard, you will say to this mountain, move away from here, and it will move away; and nothing would prevail over you.

21 Nevertheless this kind does not come out, except by fasting and prayer.

22 While they were returning through Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will shortly be delivered into the hands of men;

23 And they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise up. And they were very much grieved.

24 And when they came to Capernaum, those who collect two coins of silver as headtax came to Peter and said to him, Would not your master give his two coins?

25 He said to them, Yes. And when Peter entered the house, Jesus anticipated and said to him, What do you think, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth collect custom duties and head- tax? from their sons, or from strangers?

26 Simon said to him, From strangers. Jesus said to him, Then the sons are free.

27 But so as not to offend them, go to the sea, and throw out a hook, and the first fish which comes up, open its mouth and you will find a coin; take it and give it for me and for you.
