1 Then answered6030 Zophar6691 the Naamathite,5284 and said,559

2 Should not3808 the multitude7230 of words1697 be answered?6030 and should518 a man376 full of talk8193 be justified?6663

3 Should thy lies907 make men4962 hold their peace?2790 and when thou mockest,3932 shall no369 man make thee ashamed?3637

4 For thou hast said,559 My doctrine3948 is pure,2134 and I am1961 clean1249 in thine eyes.5869

5 But199 oh that4310 God433 would5414 speak,1696 and open6605 his lips8193 against5973 thee;

6 And that he would show5046 thee the secrets8587 of wisdom,2451 that3588 they are double3718 to that which is!8454 Know3045 therefore that3588 God433 exacteth5382 of thee less than thine iniquity4480 5771 deserveth.

7 Canst thou by searching2714 find out4672 God?433 canst thou find out4672 the Almighty7706 unto5704 perfection?8503

8 It is as high1363 as heaven;8064 what4100 canst thou do?6466 deeper6013 than hell;4480 7585 what4100 canst thou know?3045

9 The measure4055 thereof is longer752 than the earth,4480 776 and broader7342 than4480 the sea.3220

10 If518 he cut off,2498 and shut up,5462 or gather together,6950 then who4310 can hinder7725 him?

11 For3588 he1931 knoweth3045 vain7723 men:4962 he seeth7200 wickedness205 also; will he not3808 then consider995 it?

4 Du559 sprichst: Meine Rede3948 ist rein2134, und lauter1249 bin ich vor deinen Augen5869.

5 Ach, daß GOtt433 mit dir redete1696 und199 täte5414 seine Lippen8193 auf6605

6 und zeigete die heimliche8587 Weisheit2451! Denn er433 hätte wohl noch mehr an5046 dir zu tun3718, auf daß du wissest3045, daß er deiner Sünden5771 nicht aller gedenkt5382.

7 Meinest du, daß du so viel wissest4672, als GOtt433 weiß2714, und wollest alles so vollkommen8503 treffen als der Allmächtige7706?

8 Er ist höher1363 denn der Himmel8064; was willst du tun6466? tiefer6013 denn die Hölle7585; was kannst du wissen3045?

9 Länger752 denn die Erde776 und4055 breiter7342 denn das Meer3220.

10 So er sie5462 umkehrete oder verbürge oder in einen Haufen würfe, wer will‘s7725 ihm wehren?

11 Denn er kennet die losen Leute4962, er siehet die Untugend205, und sollte es nicht7723 merken3045?

12 Ein unnützer5014 Mann376 blähet sich3823; und ein geborener3205 Mensch120 will sein wie ein junges5895 Wild6501.

13 Wenn du dein Herz3820 hättest gerichtet und deine Hände3709 zu3559 ihm ausgebreitet6566;

14 wenn du die Untugend205, die in deiner Hand3027 ist, hättest ferne7368 von dir getan, daß in deiner Hütte168 kein Unrecht5766 bliebe7931,

15 so möchtest du dein Antlitz6440 aufheben ohne Tadel3971 und würdest fest3332 sein3372 und dich nicht5375 fürchten.

16 Dann würdest du der Mühe5999 vergessen7911 und so wenig gedenken2142 als des Wassers4325, das vorübergehet.

17 Und5774 die Zeit2465 deines Lebens würde aufgehen wie der Mittag6672, und das Finstere würde ein lichter Morgen1242 werden6965.

18 Und dürftest dich982 des trösten, daß Hoffnung8615 da sei3426; du würdest mit Ruhe ins Grab kommen.

19 Und würdest dich legen7257, und niemand würde dich aufschrecken2729; und viele7227 würden vor6440 dir flehen2470.

20 Aber die Augen5869 der GOttlosen7563 werden verschmachten3615, und werden nicht6 entrinnen mögen; denn ihre Hoffnung8615 wird ihrer See LE5315 fehlen4646.
