Chapter 17

1 WHEN Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, I am the Almighty God; walk well before me, and be faultless.

2 And I will make my covenant between me and you and will multiply you exceedingly.

3 And Abram fell on his face; and God talked with him, saying,

4 As for me, behold, I am establishing my covenant with you, and you shall be a father of many peoples.

5 Neither shall your name any more be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many peoples.

6 And I will make you fruitful, and multiply you exceedingly; and I will make you father of many nations, and kings shall come out of your loins.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, and I will be God to you and to your descendants after you.

8 And I will give to you, and your descendants after you, the land in which you sojourn, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

9 And God said to Abraham, You shall keep my covenant, you, and your descendants after you throughout their generations.

10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

11 And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant between me and you.

12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, who is not of your descendants.

13 He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money, shall be circumcised; and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 And the uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people; for he has broken my covenant.

15 Then God said to Abraham, As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, for Sarah is her name.

16 And I will bless her, and also I will give you a son by her; yea, I will bless him and make nations of him; and the kings of the people shall come from him.

17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed and said in his heart, Shall a son be born to him who is a hundred years old? Or shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?

18 And Abraham said to God, O that Ishmael might live in thy presence!

19 And God said to Abraham, Truly, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son; and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.

20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I have blessed him, and will multiply him, and will make him exceedingly great; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

21 But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.

22 And when God was through talking with him, he went up from Abraham.

23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son and all of those that were born in his house and all of those that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's household, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in that very day, as God had said unto him.

24 And Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

26 In that very day was Abraham circumcised and Ishmael his son

27 And all the men of his household, both born in the house and bought with money. He also circumcised some of the strangers with him.

2 Und ich will meinen Bund1285 zwischen mir und dir machen5414 und will dich fast sehr mehren7235.

3 Da fiel5307 Abram87 auf6440 sein Angesicht. Und GOtt430 redete1696 weiter mit ihm und sprach559:

4 Siehe, ich589 bin‘s und habe meinen Bund1285 mit dir, und du sollst ein Vater1 vieler1995 Völker1471 werden.

5 Darum sollst du nicht5414 mehr Abram87 heißen8034, sondern Abraham85 soll dein Name8034 sein; denn ich habe7121 dich gemacht vieler1995 Völker1471 Vater1.

6 Und will dich fast sehr fruchtbar6509 machen6509 und will von dir Völker1471 machen5414; und sollen auch Könige4428 von dir kommen3318.

7 Und ich will aufrichten6965 meinen Bund1285 zwischen mir und dir und deinem Samen2233 nach310 dir bei ihren Nachkommen1755, daß es ein ewiger5769 Bund1285 sei, also daß ich dein GOtt430 sei und deines Samens2233 nach dir.

8 Und will dir und deinem Samen2233 nach310 dir geben5414 das Land776, da du ein Fremdling4033 innen bist, nämlich das ganze Land776 Kanaan3667, zu ewiger5769 Besitzung272; und will ihr GOtt430 sein.

9 Und GOtt430 sprach559 zu Abraham85: So halte8104 nun meinen Bund1285, du und dein Same2233 nach310 dir bei ihren Nachkommen1755.

10 Das ist aber mein Bund1285, den ihr halten sollt8104 zwischen mir und euch310 und deinem Samen2233 nach dir: Alles, was männlich2145 ist unter euch, soll beschnitten werden4135.

11 Ihr sollt aber die Vorhaut6190 an eurem Fleisch1320 beschneiden5243. Dasselbe soll ein Zeichen226 sein des Bundes1285 zwischen mir und euch.

12 Ein jegliches Knäblein2145, wenn es acht8083 Tage3117 alt1121 ist, sollt ihr beschneiden4135 bei euren Nachkommen1755; desselbengleichen auch alles was Gesindes daheim1004 geboren3211 oder erkauft4736 ist von allerlei Fremden5236, die nicht eures Samens2233 sind.

13 Also soll mein Bund1285 an eurem Fleisch1320 sein zum ewigen5769 Bunde1285.

14 Und wo ein Knäblein2145 nicht wird beschnitten an der Vorhaut6189 seines834 Fleisches1320, des See LE5315 soll3772 ausgerottet werden4135 aus seinem Volk5971, darum daß es meinen Bund1285 unterlassen hat6565.

15 Und GOtt430 sprach559 abermal zu Abraham85: Du8034 sollst dein Weib802 Sarai8297 nicht mehr Sarai8297 heißen7121, sondern3588 Sara8283 soll ihr Name8034 sein.

16 Denn ich will sie segnen1288, und von ihr will ich dir einen Sohn1121 geben5414; denn ich will sie segnen1288, und Völker1471 sollen aus ihr werden und Könige4428 über viel Völker5971.

17 Da fiel5307 Abraham85 auf6440 sein Angesicht und lachte6711 und sprach559 in seinem Herzen3820: Soll mir hundert3967 Jahre8141 alt1121, ein Kind geboren werden3205 und Sara8283 neunzig8673 Jahre8141 alt1323 gebären3205?

18 Und Abraham85 sprach559 zu2421 GOtt430: Ach, daß3863 Ismael3458 leben sollte vor6440 dir!

19 Da sprach559 GOtt430: Ja61, Sara8283, dein Weib802 soll dir einen Sohn1121 gebären3205, den8034 sollst du Isaak3327 heißen7121; denn mit ihm will ich meinen ewigen5769 Bund1285 aufrichten6965 und mit seinem Samen2233 nach310 ihm.

20 Dazu um Ismael3458 habe8085 ich dich auch erhöret. Siehe, ich habe ihn gesegnet1288 und will ihn fruchtbar6509 machen5414 und mehren7235 fast sehr. Zwölf Fürsten5387 wird er zeugen3205, und will ihn zum großen1419 Volk1471 machen.

21 Aber meinen Bund1285 will ich aufrichten6965 mit Isaak3327, den dir Sara8283 gebären3205 soll um diese Zeit4150 im andern312 Jahr8141.

22 Und er hörete auf3615 mit ihm zu reden1696, Und GOtt430 fuhr auf5927 von Abraham85.

23 Da nahm3947 Abraham85 seinen Sohn1121 Ismael3458 und3701 alle Knechte582, die daheim1004 geboren3211, und85 alle, die erkauft4736, und alles, was Mannsnamen war in seinem Hause1004, und beschnitt4135 die Vorhaut6190 an ihrem Fleisch1320 eben desselben6106 Tages3117, wie ihm GOtt430 gesagt hatte1696.

24 Und1320 Abraham85 war neunundneunzig8672 Jahre8141 alt1121, da er die Vorhaut6190 an seinem Fleische beschnitt4135.

25 Ismael3458 aber, sein Sohn1121, war dreizehn Jahre8141 alt1121, da seines Fleisches1320 Vorhaut6190 beschnitten ward4135.

26 Eben auf einen6106 Tag3117 wurden sie alle beschnitten4135, Abraham85, sein Sohn1121 Ismael3458,

27 und582 was Mannsnamen in seinem Hause1004 war, daheim1004 geboren3211 und3701 erkauft4736 von Fremden5236; es ward4135 alles mit ihm beschnitten.
