Chapter 21

1 AND the LORD remembered Sarah, as he had said, and the LORD did to Sarah as he had spoken.

2 For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 And Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

6 And Sarah said, God has made me to rejoice today exceedingly; everyone that hears the news will rejoice with me.

7 And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would give suck to children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.

8 And the child grew and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar, the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

10 Therefore she said to Abraham, Expel this maidservant and her son; for the son of this maidservant shall not be heir with my son Isaac.

11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

12 And God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the boy and because of your maidservant; whatever Sarah tells you, hearken to her voice; for your descendants shall come through Isaac.

13 And also of the son of the maidservant will I make a great nation because he is your offspring.

14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a skin containing water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and the boy; and sent her away. And she departed, and lost her way in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

15 And the water in the skin was spent, and she cast the boy under one of the shrubs.

16 And she went and sat down opposite him about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, Let me not see the death of the boy. And she sat down opposite him and lifted up her voice and wept.

17 And the LORD heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

18 Arise, take up the boy, and hold him fast in your arms; for I will make him a great nation.

19 Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.

20 And God was with the boy; and he grew up and dwelt in the wilderness of Paran and learned to become an archer in the wilderness of Paran.

21 And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

22 And it came to pass at that time that Abimeleck and Phichol, the general of his army, said to Abraham, God is with you in all that you do;

23 Now therefore swear to me by God in this place that you will never deal falsely with me, nor with my family, nor with my descendants; but according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me and to the land wherein you have sojourned.

24 And Abraham said, I will swear.

25 And Abraham reproved Abimeleck because of a well which Abraham's servants had dug and which Abimeleck's servants had seized.

26 And Abimeleck said, I do not know who has done this thing; neither did you tell me, nor have I heard of it until today.

27 And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimeleck; and both of them made a covenant.

28 And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

29 And Abimeleck said to Abraham, What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs of the flock which you have set by themselves?

30 And he said, For these seven ewe lambs you shall take of my hands that they may be a witness for me that I have digged this well.

31 Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they swore both of them.

32 Thus they made a covenant at Beer-sheba; then Abimeleck and Phichol, the general of the army, rose up and returned to the land of the Philistines.

33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beer-sheba and called there on the name of the LORD Everlasting.

34 And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines for a long time.

9 Und Sara8283 sah7200 den Sohn1121 Hagars1904, der Ägyptischen4713, den sie Abraham85 geboren hatte3205, daß er ein Spötter war6711,

10 und sprach559 zu Abraham85: Treibe1644 diese Magd519 aus mit ihrem Sohn1121; denn dieser Magd519 Sohn1121 soll nicht erben3423 mit meinem Sohn1121 Isaak3327.

11 Das Wort1697 gefiel5869 Abraham85 sehr3966 übel3415 um seines Sohnes1121 willen182.

12 Aber GOtt430 sprach559 zu ihm: Laß dir‘s nicht übel3415 gefallen5869 des Knaben5288 und85 der Magd519 halben. Alles, was Sara8283 dir gesagt559 hat8085, dem gehorche. Denn in Isaak3327 soll dir der Same2233 genannt7121 werden.

13 Auch will ich der Magd519 Sohn1121 zum Volk1471 machen7760, darum daß er deines Samens2233 ist.

14 Da stund Abraham85 des Morgens1242 frühe auf7925 und7760 nahm3947 Brot3899 und eine Flasche mit Wasser4325 und legte5414 es Hagar1904 auf ihre Schulter7926, und den Knaben3206 mit, und ließ7971 sie aus. Da zog3212 sie hin und ging8582 in der Wüste4057 irre bei Bersaba.

17 Da erhörete GOtt430 die Stimme6963 des Knaben5288. Und der Engel4397 Gottes rief7121 vom Himmel8064 der Hagar1904 und sprach559 zu8085 ihr: Was ist dir, Hagar1904? Fürchte3372 dich nicht; denn GOtt hat8085 erhöret die Stimme6963 des Knaben5288, da er liegt.

18 Stehe auf6965, nimm5375 den Knaben5288 und führe2388 ihn an deiner Hand3027; denn ich will ihn zum großen1419 Volk1471 machen7760.

19 Und4390 GOtt430 tat6491 ihr die4325 Augen5869 auf, daß sie einen Wasserbrunnen875 sah7200. Da ging sie hin3212 und füllete die Flasche mit Wasser4325 und tränkte8248 den Knaben5288.

20 Und GOtt430 war3427 mit dem Knaben5288; der wuchs1431 und wohnete in der Wüste4057 und ward ein guter Schütze7235;

21 und wohnete in der Wüste4057 Pharan6290. Und seine Mutter517 nahm3947 ihm ein3427 Weib802 aus Ägyptenland776.

22 Zu6213 derselbigen Zeit6256 redete559 Abimelech40 und Phichol6369, sein Feldhauptmann8269, mit Abraham85 und sprach559: GOtt430 ist mit dir in allem, das du tust.

23 So schwöre7650 mir nun2008 bei GOtt430, daß du mir, noch meinen Kindern5209, noch meinen Neffen keine Untreue erzeigen wollest8266, sondern die Barmherzigkeit2617, die ich an dir getan6213 habe6213, an mir auch tust und an dem Lande776, da du ein Fremdling1481 innen bist.

24 Da sprach559 Abraham85: Ich will schwören7650.

25 Und40 Abraham85 strafte3198 Abimelech40 um des Wasserbrunnens875 willen182, den Abimelechs Knechte5650 hatten mit Gewalt genommen1497.

26 Da antwortete559 Abimelech40: Ich hab‘s nicht3808 gewußt3045, wer das1697 getan6213 hat8085; auch hast du mir‘s nicht3808 angesagt5046; dazu habe ich‘s nicht1115 gehöret denn heute3117.

27 Da nahm3947 Abraham85 Schafe6629 und Rinder1241 und gab5414 sie Abimelech40; und machten3772 beide8147 einen Bund1285 miteinander.

28 Und5324 Abraham85 stellete dar sieben7651 Lämmer3535 besonders.

29 Da sprach559 Abimelech40 zu Abraham85: Was2008 sollen die sieben7651 Lämmer3535, die du besonders dargestellt hast5324?

30 Er antwortete: Sieben7651 Lämmer3535 sollst du von meiner Hand3027 nehmen3947, daß5668 sie559 mir zum Zeugnis5713 seien, daß ich diesen Brunnen875 gegraben habe2658.

31 Daher heißt7121 die Stätte4725 Bersaba, daß sie beide8147 miteinander da geschworen haben7650.

32 Und also machten3772 sie den Bund1285 zu Bersaba. Da machten sich auf6965 Abimelech40 und Phichol6369, sein Feldhauptmann8269, und zogen wieder7725 in der Philister6430 Land776.

33 Abraham aber pflanzete Bäume815 zu Bersaba und predigte7121 daselbst von dem Namen8034 des HErrn3068, des ewigen5769 Gottes410.
