Chapter 41

1 AND it came to pass, two years later, Pharaoh dreamed; and he was standing by the river.

2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven beautiful and fat cows; and they fed in a meadow.

3 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean; and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the river.

4 And the ill-favored and lean cows ate up the seven beautiful and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.

5 And he slept and dreamed a second time; and, behold, seven ears of grain were growing on a single stalk, rank and good.

6 And, behold, seven thin ears blasted by the east wind, sprang up after them.

7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; so he sent and called for all the magicians and all the wise men of Egypt; and Pharaoh told them his dreams; but there was no man who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

9 Then the chief butler spoke in the presence of Pharaoh, and said, I will mention my offense today;

10 Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in the prison in the commander of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker;

11 And we dreamed dreams in the same night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

12 And there was with us a young man, a Hebrew, a servant of the commander of the guard; and we told him our dreams, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; I was restored to my position, and he was crucified.

14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and he shaved himself, and changed his clothes, and came in before Pharaoh.

15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it; and I have heard concerning you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.

16 And Joseph answered and said to Pharaoh, Do you think, perhaps, that without God I am able to give Pharaoh an answer that everything will be well?

17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, In my dream I was standing on the bank of the river;

18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven fat and beautiful cows; and they fed in a meadow;

19 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and ill-favored and lean. I had never seen such ill-favored cows in all the land of Egypt.

20 And the lean and ill-favored cows ate up the first seven fat cows;

21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them: for they were still ill-favored, as at the beginning. Then I awoke.

22 And again, I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears of grain growing on one stalk, full and good;

23 And, behold, seven other ears, thin and blasted by the east wind, sprang up after them;

24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears; and I told this to the magicians; but there was no one who could interpret these dreams to me.

25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26 The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.

27 And the seven lean and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven thin ears blasted by the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

28 It is the thing which I told Pharaoh; what God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.

29 Behold. there are coming seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt;

30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

31 And the plenty shall not be remembered in the land because of the famine which shall follow; for it shall be very severe.

32 And as for that the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is already prepared by God, and God will hasten to bring it to pass.

33 Now therefore let Pharaoh find a discreet and wise man, and appoint him an overseer over the land of Egypt.

34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land of Egypt to take the fifth part of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plenteous years.

35 And let them gather all the wheat of these good years that are coming, and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep the grain in the towns.

36 And let the grain be kept for the land against the seven years of famine which shall come in the land of Egypt; so that the land may not perish through the famine.

37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a man as this, in whom the Spirit of God is?

39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph. Forasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is none so wise and discreet as you are:

40 You shall be over my household, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled; only on the throne will I be greater than you.

41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have made you governor over all the land of Egypt.

42 Then Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck:

43 And he made him to ride in another chariot which belonged to him; and they cried before him, Father and governor! Thus he made him governor over all the land of Egypt.

44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I Pharaoh have commanded that without your orders no man shall undertake anything in all the land of Egypt.

45 Then Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah (because the hidden things were revealed to him); and he gave him to wife Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went throughout all the land of Egypt.

46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47 And in the seven plenteous years the land brought forth abundantly.

48 And he gathered up all the grain of the seven plenteous years which were in the land of Egypt, and stored up the grain in towns; the grain of the fields which was round about every town he stored in the same.

49 And Joseph stored up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he was tired of numbering it; for it was without number.

50 And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him.

51 And Joseph called the name of his first-born Manasseh; For God, said he, has made me forget all my troubles, and all my father's house.

52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim; For God has made me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

53 And the seven years of plenty that were in the land of Egypt came to an end.

54 And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said; and there was famine in all lands; and in all the land of Egypt there was no bread.

55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people complained against Pharaoh because of the lack of bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; and what he says to you, do.

56 And the famine was over all the face of the land, and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians;

57 And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt. And the people from all lands came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain; because the famine was severe in all lands.

4 И эти ужасно худые коровы съедают коров тучных и видом прекрасных. Фараон проснулся.

5 Когда же он снова уснул, приснился ему второй сон: семь колосьев, зерном тяжелым налитых, росли на одном стебле,

6 но вскоре из земли выросли другие семь колосьев — пустые и опаленные восточным ветром.

7 И эти пустые колосья поглотили те семь колосьев, налитых тяжелым зерном. Фараон опять проснулся. «Это всего лишь сон», — подумал он.

8 Однако утром, почувствовав беспокойство, он повелел созвать всех египетских жрецов-прорицателей и мудрецов и рассказал им свои сны, но их никто не смог истолковать.

9 Тогда главный виночерпий обратился к фараону: «Вспоминаю я ныне о провинностях своих

10 и о том, как фараон прогневался на своих рабов и велел заключить меня в дом начальника стражи — меня и главного пекаря.

11 Нам обоим однажды ночью приснились сны, каждому из нас — сон со своим, особым значением.

12 В то время с нами в тюрьме был молодой еврей, раб начальника стражи. Мы рассказали ему свои сны, а он истолковал их нам.

13 Всё произошло именно так, как он сказал, — меня восстановили в должности моей, а пекаря повесили».

14 Фараон тут же послал за Иосифом, и слуги спешно вывели его из темницы. Он побрился, сменил одежды свои и предстал перед фараоном.

15 Фараон сказал Иосифу: «Видел я сон, но истолковать его никто не может. А о тебе говорят, что ты умеешь толковать сны».

16 «Нет, не я, а Бог может дать ответ, который послужит фараону во благо», — смиренно произнес Иосиф.

17 Тогда фараон сказал Иосифу: «Снилось мне, что я стоял на берегу Нила,

18 когда семь тучных и видом прекрасных коров вышли из Нила и стали пастись в тростнике.

19 За ними вышли другие семь коров. Вид их был жалкий, они выглядели ужасно худыми. Коров хуже, чем те, я никогда не видел во всем Египте.

20 И эти ужасно худые коровы съели семь первых, тучных коров;

21 но, глядя на них, того нельзя было заметить — были они такими же безобразными в своей худобе, как и прежде. И я проснулся.

22 Заснув вновь, увидел я во сне, как семь колосьев, полных, налитых зерном, выросли на одном стебле,

23 а затем поднялись семь колосьев сухих, пустых и опаленных восточным ветром.

24 И пустые колосья поглотили семь наполненных зерном колосьев. Всё это рассказал я прорицателям, но никто не смог истолковать мне, что это значит».

25 Тогда Иосиф стал рассказывать фараону: «Оба сна твои — об одном и том же, и в них Бог открывает фараону то, что Он намерен вскоре совершить.

26 Семь тучных коров означают семь лет, и семь хороших колосьев — те же семь лет. Оба сна — об одном и том же.

27 Семь безобразных в своей худобе коров, что вышли следом, и семь пустых колосьев, опаленных восточным ветром, — это семь лет. Значение одно и то же — впереди семь лет голода.

28 Это я имел в виду, когда сказал тебе: Бог показал фараону то, что Он намерен совершить.

29 Наступают семь лет, которые по всей земле египетской будут временем великого изобилия.

30 Но за ними придут семь лет голода, и в те годы забудется былое обилие плодов земли. Голод истощит Египет.

31 И когда его время наступит, прежнее изобилие в стране станет совершенно незаметным — таким жестоким будет этот голод.

32 Фараону такой сон дважды приснился потому, что дело это уже решено Богом, и намерение Свое Он исполнит вскоре.

33 Теперь же пусть фараон подыщет человека рассудительного и мудрого и поставит его управлять Египтом.

34 И фараону надо позаботиться о том, чтобы по всей стране назначить и других чиновников, дабы все семь лет изобилия собирать пятую часть того, что вырастет на земле египетской.

35 Они должны собрать весь избыток богатого урожая грядущих лет благополучия и, пользуясь властью, данной им фараоном, сделать запасы зерна в городах и хранить его там.

36 Запасы этого зерна в стране потребуются на те семь лет голода, что придут на землю египетскую. Так страна переживет этот голод».

37 И фараону, и всем его придворным понравилось предложение Иосифа.

38 Обратившись к своим чиновникам, фараон сказал: «Найдем ли мы другого человека, в котором Дух Божий явил бы Себя так, как в нем?»

39 «Раз уж Бог открыл всё это тебе, — сказал фараон Иосифу, — то едва ли мы найдем человека более проницательного и мудрого, чем ты!

40 Отныне ты будешь управлять всеми делами царства моего. Народ мой будет повиноваться каждому твоему слову. Только я, облеченный своим титулом царским, останусь выше тебя».

41 «Знай же, — продолжил фараон, — я даю тебе власть над всем Египтом».

42 Он снял со своей руки перстень с царской печатью и надел на руку Иосифу, облачил его в одежды из тончайшего льна и возложил ему на шею золотую цепь.

43 А затем фараон велел везти его на колеснице, которая по своему великолепию уступала лишь его собственной, и, когда Иосиф ехал, бежавшие впереди колесницы кричали: «Преклонить колена!» Так фараон поставил его правителем всего Египта.

44 «Я фараон, — сказал он Иосифу, — однако во всей стране никто из моих подданных без твоего позволения и шагу не сделает».

45 Фараон стал звать Иосифа новым именем Цафнат-Панеах и дал ему в жены Асенат, дочь Поти-Феры, жреца города Она. Так утвердилась и распространилась власть Иосифа над всем Египтом.

46 Тридцать лет было Иосифу в то время, когда он стал служить фараону, царю египетскому. Выйдя от фараона, Иосиф начал с того, что объехал всю землю египетскую.

47 В течение семи лет изобилия, когда урожаи были большими,

48 Иосиф собирал по всей земле египетской пятую часть зерна и все эти семь лет делал его запасы в городах. Хранилища каждого города заполнялись тем, что уродилось в его окрестностях.

49 Зерна, что заготовил Иосиф, было так много, как песка морского, — его даже считать перестали: это было уже невозможно.

50 Двух сыновей родила Иосифу Асенат, дочь Поти-Феры, жреца города Она, и произошло это еще до наступления голода.

51 Иосиф назвал своего первенца Манассией, сказав при этом: «Вот и помог мне Бог забыть все мои горести и утешил в тоске по дому отца моего».

52 А второго сына он назвал Ефремом. «Бог сделал меня плодовитым в земле страдания моего», — сказал он.

53 Закончились семь лет изобилия в земле египетской.

54 Им на смену пришли семь лет голода, как и предсказывал Иосиф. Во всех странах народ голодал, лишь в Египте повсюду был хлеб.

55 Как только и у жителей Египта закончились все съестные запасы, они пришли к фараону просить хлеба. «Идите к Иосифу, — говорил им фараон, — и делайте то, что он скажет».

56 Когда голод охватил всю страну, Иосиф распорядился открыть хранилища и продавать зерно египтянам, ибо великий голод стоял в земле той.

57 И из всех соседних стран люди шли в Египет покупать зерно у Иосифа, потому что везде был страшный голод.

20 And the lean and ill-favored cows ate up the first seven fat cows;

22 And again, I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears of grain growing on one stalk, full and good;

23 And, behold, seven other ears, thin and blasted by the east wind, sprang up after them;

24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears; and I told this to the magicians; but there was no one who could interpret these dreams to me.

25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

25 Тогда Иосиф стал рассказывать фараону: «Оба сна твои — об одном и том же, и в них Бог открывает фараону то, что Он намерен вскоре совершить.

26 The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.

27 And the seven lean and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven thin ears blasted by the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

27 Семь безобразных в своей худобе коров, что вышли следом, и семь пустых колосьев, опаленных восточным ветром, — это семь лет. Значение одно и то же — впереди семь лет голода.

28 It is the thing which I told Pharaoh; what God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.

44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I Pharaoh have commanded that without your orders no man shall undertake anything in all the land of Egypt.

44 «Я фараон, — сказал он Иосифу, — однако во всей стране никто из моих подданных без твоего позволения и шагу не сделает».

45 Then Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah (because the hidden things were revealed to him); and he gave him to wife Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went throughout all the land of Egypt.

45 Фараон стал звать Иосифа новым именем Цафнат-Панеах и дал ему в жены Асенат, дочь Поти-Феры, жреца города Она. Так утвердилась и распространилась власть Иосифа над всем Египтом.

46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

46 Тридцать лет было Иосифу в то время, когда он стал служить фараону, царю египетскому. Выйдя от фараона, Иосиф начал с того, что объехал всю землю египетскую.

47 And in the seven plenteous years the land brought forth abundantly.

47 В течение семи лет изобилия, когда урожаи были большими,

48 And he gathered up all the grain of the seven plenteous years which were in the land of Egypt, and stored up the grain in towns; the grain of the fields which was round about every town he stored in the same.

48 Иосиф собирал по всей земле египетской пятую часть зерна и все эти семь лет делал его запасы в городах. Хранилища каждого города заполнялись тем, что уродилось в его окрестностях.

49 And Joseph stored up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he was tired of numbering it; for it was without number.

49 Зерна, что заготовил Иосиф, было так много, как песка морского, — его даже считать перестали: это было уже невозможно.

50 And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him.

50 Двух сыновей родила Иосифу Асенат, дочь Поти-Феры, жреца города Она, и произошло это еще до наступления голода.

51 And Joseph called the name of his first-born Manasseh; For God, said he, has made me forget all my troubles, and all my father's house.

51 Иосиф назвал своего первенца Манассией, сказав при этом: «Вот и помог мне Бог забыть все мои горести и утешил в тоске по дому отца моего».

52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim; For God has made me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

52 А второго сына он назвал Ефремом. «Бог сделал меня плодовитым в земле страдания моего», — сказал он.

53 And the seven years of plenty that were in the land of Egypt came to an end.

53 Закончились семь лет изобилия в земле египетской.

54 And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said; and there was famine in all lands; and in all the land of Egypt there was no bread.

54 Им на смену пришли семь лет голода, как и предсказывал Иосиф. Во всех странах народ голодал, лишь в Египте повсюду был хлеб.

55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people complained against Pharaoh because of the lack of bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; and what he says to you, do.

55 Как только и у жителей Египта закончились все съестные запасы, они пришли к фараону просить хлеба. «Идите к Иосифу, — говорил им фараон, — и делайте то, что он скажет».

56 And the famine was over all the face of the land, and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians;

56 Когда голод охватил всю страну, Иосиф распорядился открыть хранилища и продавать зерно египтянам, ибо великий голод стоял в земле той.

57 And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt. And the people from all lands came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain; because the famine was severe in all lands.

57 И из всех соседних стран люди шли в Египет покупать зерно у Иосифа, потому что везде был страшный голод.
