Chapter 36

1 AND it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah that this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and against Judah and against all the nations from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day.

3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may turn every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their trespasses and their sins.

4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD which he had spoken to him, upon a scroll of a book.

5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot enter into the house of the LORD;

6 Therefore go and read the scroll which you have written from my mouth, the words of the LORD, in the presence of the people in the LORD'S house on a fast day; and also you shall read them in the presence of all the people of Judah who come out of their cities.

7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and every one will turn from his evil way; so that the LORD may cease from the evil which he has pronounced against them; for great is the anger and the fury that he has pronounced against this people.

8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the scroll the words of the LORD in the LORD'S house.

9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, when all the people in Jerusalem had proclaimed a fast before the LORD, Baruch read before all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

10 Then Baruch the scribe read the words of the LORD which Jeremiah the prophet had spoken in the house of the LORD in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe in the upper court at the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house before all the people.

11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the LORD from the book,

12 He went down from the king's house to the scribes' chamber; and he saw all the princes seated there: Elishama the scribe, and Belaiah the son of Shemaiah and Eliathan the son of Achbor and Gemariah the son of Shaphan and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah and all the princes.

13 Then Michaiah told them all the words that he had heard when Baruch the scribe read the scroll in the presence of the people.

14 Then all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll which you have read before the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them.

15 And the princes said to him, Sit down now and read it in our presence; so Baruch read it in their presence.

16 Now it came to pass when they had heard all the words that they were alarmed, looking one to another, and they said to Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, how did you write all these words at his mouth?

18 Then Baruch answered them, Jeremiah dictated all these words to me and I wrote them with ink in the book.

19 Then the princes said to Baruch, Go hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are.

20 Then the princes went to the king in the courtyard, but they placed the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the presence of the king.

21 So the king sent Jehudi to bring the scroll; and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi read it before the king and before all the princes who stood before the king.

22 Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month; and there was a fire burning on the brazier before him.

23 And it came to pass that when Jehudi had read three or four pages, the king cut it with the scribe's penknife and threw it into the coals of fire; and the whole scroll was consumed in the fire that was on the brazier.

24 Yet neither the king nor any of his servants were afraid, nor did they tear their garments when they heard all these words.

25 Nevertheless Eliathan and Belaiah and Gemariah had entreated the king not to burn the scroll; but he would not listen to them.

26 And the king commanded Jerahmael the king's son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdael to seize Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the scribe; but the LORD hid them.

27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

28 Return from hiding and take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah has burned.

29 And you shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus says the LORD: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written in it and said, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land and exterminate from it both man and beast?

30 Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah, He shall have not an heir to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat and in the night to the frost.

31 And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the men of Judah all the evil things that I have pronounced against them; because they did not hearken to my voice.

32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it as Jeremiah dictated all the words which were written in the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and he added to them many similar words.

1 В четвертый год Иоакима, сына Иосиина, царя иудейского, было слово сие к Иеремии от Иеговы; ему сказано:

2 Возьми себе письменный свиток, и напиши на нем все слова, которые Я говорил тебе об Израиле, и об Иуде, и о всех народах, с самого того дня, как Я стал говорить тебе, со дней Иосии до сего дня.

3 Может быть, дом Иудин услышит о всех бедствиях, какие Я думаю сделать ему, и чрез то они обратятся каждый от порочного пути своего, и Я прощу вину их и грех их.

4 И призвал Иеремия Варуха, сына Нериина; и написал Варух в письменный свиток, из уст Иеремии, все слова Иеговы, которые он говорил ему.

5 И дал Иеремия приказание Варуху, и сказал: я задержан, не могу пойти в дом Иеговы.

6 Итак пойди ты, и прочитай в свитке написанные тобою из уст моих слова Иеговы в слух народу, в доме Иеговы, в день поста, также и в слух всем Иудеям, пришедшим из городов своих, прочитай их.

7 Может быть падет от них прошение пред лице Иеговы; и они обратятся каждый от порочного пути своего; ибо велик гнев и ярость, которые изрек Иегова на народ сей.

8 Варух, сын Нериин, сделал все, что приказал ему пророк Иеремия, касательно прочтения из списка слов Иеговы в доме Иеговы.

9 В пятый год Иоакима, сына Иосиина, царя иудейского, в девятом месяце, объявили пост пред лицем Иеговы всему народу иерусалимскому, и всему народу, из городов иудейских, пришедшему в Иерусалим.

10 И прочитал Варух из списка слова Иеремиины в доме Иеговы, в комнате Гемарии, сына Шафанова, государственного тайнописца, на верхнем дворе, у входа в новые врата дома Иеговы, в слух всего народа.

11 Михаия, сын Гемарии, сына Шафанова, слышал все слова Иеговы, читанные из списка,

12 и сошел в дом царев, в комнату государственного тайнописца, и вот там сидели все князья, Елишама, государственный тайнописец, и Делаия, сын Шемаии, и Елнафан, сын Ахбора, и Гемария, сын Шафана, и Седекия, сын Анании, и все князья.

13 И пересказал им Михаия все слова, которые он слышал, когда Варух читал список в слух народа.

14 Тогда все князья послали к Варуху Иегудия, сына Нефании, сына Шелемии, сына Хушии, сказать: свиток, который ты читал в слух народа, возьми в руку свою, и приди. И взял Варух, сын Нериин, свиток в руку свою, и пришел к ним.

15 И сказали ему: сядь, и прочитай нам вслух. И прочитал им Варух вслух.

16 Когда они выслушали все слова, то посмотрели друг на друга с ужасом, и сказали Варуху: мы непременно должны пересказать царю все сии слова.

17 И стали выспрашивать у Варуха, и говорили: перескажи нам, как ты писал все слова сии из уст его?

18 И сказал им Варух: он из уст своих произносил мне все сии слова, а я чернилами писал в этот список.

19 И сказали князья Варуху: пойди, скройся ты и Иеремия, чтоб никто не знал, где вы.

20 И пошли к царю во двор, а свиток оставили в комнате Елишамы, государственного тайнописца, и передали в уши царю все слова сии.

21 И послал царь Иегудия взять свиток, и взял его из комнаты Елишамы, тайнописца; и читал его Иегудий в слух царя и в слух всех князей, стоявших подле царя.

22 Царь тогда, в девятый месяц, жил в зимнем доме, и перед ним горела жаровня.

23 Иегудий, по прочтении трех или четырех полос, отрезывал их писцевым ножичком, и бросал на огонь, который в жаровне, пока не истлел весь свиток на огне, который был в жаровне.

24 А не побоялись, и не раздрали одежд своих, ни царь, ни все служащие при нем, слыша все слова сии.

25 Хотя Елнафан, и Делаия, и Гемария умоляли царя, чтоб он не велел жечь свитка, но он не послушал их.

26 И дал царь повеление Иерахмеилу, сыну Мелехову, и Сераии, сыну Азриилову, и Шеммии, сыну Авдеилову, взять Варуха писца, и Иеремию пророка. Но Иегова скрыл их.

27 И было слово Иеговы к Иеремии, после того, как царь сожег свиток и слова, которые Варух написал из уст Иеремии. Ему сказано:

28 Возьми себе опять другой свиток, и напиши на нем все прежние слова, какие были на прежнем свитке, который сожег Иоаким, царь иудейский.

29 А о царе иудейском, Иоакиме, скажи: так говорит Иегова: ты сожег свиток сей, сказав: зачем ты написал на нем такие слова: `непременно придет царь вавилонский, и разорит землю сию, и истребит на ней людей и скот`?

30 За сие так говорит Иегова о царе иудейском, Иоакиме: не будет от него сидящего на престоле Давидовом, и труп его повержен будет на зной дневный и на мороз ночной,

31 И взыщу с него, и с племени его, и с служащих при нем вину их; и наведу на них и на жителей Иерусалима и на иудеев все злое, что Я говорил им, а они не слушали.

32 И взял Иеремия другой свиток, и отдал его Варуху, сыну Нерии, писцу, и он написал на нем из уст Иеремии все слова того списка, который сжег Иоаким, царь иудейский, на огне; и еще прибавлено к ним много таких же слов.

1 AND it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah that this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

1 В четвертый год Иоакима, сына Иосиина, царя иудейского, было слово сие к Иеремии от Иеговы; ему сказано:

2 Take a scroll of a book and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and against Judah and against all the nations from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day.

2 Возьми себе письменный свиток, и напиши на нем все слова, которые Я говорил тебе об Израиле, и об Иуде, и о всех народах, с самого того дня, как Я стал говорить тебе, со дней Иосии до сего дня.

3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may turn every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their trespasses and their sins.

3 Может быть, дом Иудин услышит о всех бедствиях, какие Я думаю сделать ему, и чрез то они обратятся каждый от порочного пути своего, и Я прощу вину их и грех их.

4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD which he had spoken to him, upon a scroll of a book.

4 И призвал Иеремия Варуха, сына Нериина; и написал Варух в письменный свиток, из уст Иеремии, все слова Иеговы, которые он говорил ему.

5 And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot enter into the house of the LORD;

5 И дал Иеремия приказание Варуху, и сказал: я задержан, не могу пойти в дом Иеговы.

6 Therefore go and read the scroll which you have written from my mouth, the words of the LORD, in the presence of the people in the LORD'S house on a fast day; and also you shall read them in the presence of all the people of Judah who come out of their cities.

6 Итак пойди ты, и прочитай в свитке написанные тобою из уст моих слова Иеговы в слух народу, в доме Иеговы, в день поста, также и в слух всем Иудеям, пришедшим из городов своих, прочитай их.

7 It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and every one will turn from his evil way; so that the LORD may cease from the evil which he has pronounced against them; for great is the anger and the fury that he has pronounced against this people.

7 Может быть падет от них прошение пред лице Иеговы; и они обратятся каждый от порочного пути своего; ибо велик гнев и ярость, которые изрек Иегова на народ сей.

8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the scroll the words of the LORD in the LORD'S house.

8 Варух, сын Нериин, сделал все, что приказал ему пророк Иеремия, касательно прочтения из списка слов Иеговы в доме Иеговы.

9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, when all the people in Jerusalem had proclaimed a fast before the LORD, Baruch read before all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

9 В пятый год Иоакима, сына Иосиина, царя иудейского, в девятом месяце, объявили пост пред лицем Иеговы всему народу иерусалимскому, и всему народу, из городов иудейских, пришедшему в Иерусалим.

10 Then Baruch the scribe read the words of the LORD which Jeremiah the prophet had spoken in the house of the LORD in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe in the upper court at the entry of the new gate of the LORD'S house before all the people.

10 И прочитал Варух из списка слова Иеремиины в доме Иеговы, в комнате Гемарии, сына Шафанова, государственного тайнописца, на верхнем дворе, у входа в новые врата дома Иеговы, в слух всего народа.

11 When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the LORD from the book,

11 Михаия, сын Гемарии, сына Шафанова, слышал все слова Иеговы, читанные из списка,

12 He went down from the king's house to the scribes' chamber; and he saw all the princes seated there: Elishama the scribe, and Belaiah the son of Shemaiah and Eliathan the son of Achbor and Gemariah the son of Shaphan and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah and all the princes.

12 и сошел в дом царев, в комнату государственного тайнописца, и вот там сидели все князья, Елишама, государственный тайнописец, и Делаия, сын Шемаии, и Елнафан, сын Ахбора, и Гемария, сын Шафана, и Седекия, сын Анании, и все князья.

13 Then Michaiah told them all the words that he had heard when Baruch the scribe read the scroll in the presence of the people.

13 И пересказал им Михаия все слова, которые он слышал, когда Варух читал список в слух народа.

14 Then all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll which you have read before the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them.

14 Тогда все князья послали к Варуху Иегудия, сына Нефании, сына Шелемии, сына Хушии, сказать: свиток, который ты читал в слух народа, возьми в руку свою, и приди. И взял Варух, сын Нериин, свиток в руку свою, и пришел к ним.

15 And the princes said to him, Sit down now and read it in our presence; so Baruch read it in their presence.

15 И сказали ему: сядь, и прочитай нам вслух. И прочитал им Варух вслух.

16 Now it came to pass when they had heard all the words that they were alarmed, looking one to another, and they said to Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

16 Когда они выслушали все слова, то посмотрели друг на друга с ужасом, и сказали Варуху: мы непременно должны пересказать царю все сии слова.

17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, how did you write all these words at his mouth?

17 И стали выспрашивать у Варуха, и говорили: перескажи нам, как ты писал все слова сии из уст его?

18 Then Baruch answered them, Jeremiah dictated all these words to me and I wrote them with ink in the book.

18 И сказал им Варух: он из уст своих произносил мне все сии слова, а я чернилами писал в этот список.

19 Then the princes said to Baruch, Go hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are.

19 И сказали князья Варуху: пойди, скройся ты и Иеремия, чтоб никто не знал, где вы.

20 Then the princes went to the king in the courtyard, but they placed the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the presence of the king.

20 И пошли к царю во двор, а свиток оставили в комнате Елишамы, государственного тайнописца, и передали в уши царю все слова сии.

21 So the king sent Jehudi to bring the scroll; and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi read it before the king and before all the princes who stood before the king.

21 И послал царь Иегудия взять свиток, и взял его из комнаты Елишамы, тайнописца; и читал его Иегудий в слух царя и в слух всех князей, стоявших подле царя.

22 Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month; and there was a fire burning on the brazier before him.

22 Царь тогда, в девятый месяц, жил в зимнем доме, и перед ним горела жаровня.

23 And it came to pass that when Jehudi had read three or four pages, the king cut it with the scribe's penknife and threw it into the coals of fire; and the whole scroll was consumed in the fire that was on the brazier.

23 Иегудий, по прочтении трех или четырех полос, отрезывал их писцевым ножичком, и бросал на огонь, который в жаровне, пока не истлел весь свиток на огне, который был в жаровне.

24 Yet neither the king nor any of his servants were afraid, nor did they tear their garments when they heard all these words.

24 А не побоялись, и не раздрали одежд своих, ни царь, ни все служащие при нем, слыша все слова сии.

25 Nevertheless Eliathan and Belaiah and Gemariah had entreated the king not to burn the scroll; but he would not listen to them.

25 Хотя Елнафан, и Делаия, и Гемария умоляли царя, чтоб он не велел жечь свитка, но он не послушал их.

26 And the king commanded Jerahmael the king's son and Seraiah the son of Azriel and Shelemiah the son of Abdael to seize Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the scribe; but the LORD hid them.

26 И дал царь повеление Иерахмеилу, сыну Мелехову, и Сераии, сыну Азриилову, и Шеммии, сыну Авдеилову, взять Варуха писца, и Иеремию пророка. Но Иегова скрыл их.

27 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah after the king had burned the scroll and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

27 И было слово Иеговы к Иеремии, после того, как царь сожег свиток и слова, которые Варух написал из уст Иеремии. Ему сказано:

28 Return from hiding and take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah has burned.

28 Возьми себе опять другой свиток, и напиши на нем все прежние слова, какие были на прежнем свитке, который сожег Иоаким, царь иудейский.

29 And you shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus says the LORD: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written in it and said, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land and exterminate from it both man and beast?

29 А о царе иудейском, Иоакиме, скажи: так говорит Иегова: ты сожег свиток сей, сказав: зачем ты написал на нем такие слова: `непременно придет царь вавилонский, и разорит землю сию, и истребит на ней людей и скот`?

30 Therefore, thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah, He shall have not an heir to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat and in the night to the frost.

30 За сие так говорит Иегова о царе иудейском, Иоакиме: не будет от него сидящего на престоле Давидовом, и труп его повержен будет на зной дневный и на мороз ночной,

32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it as Jeremiah dictated all the words which were written in the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and he added to them many similar words.

32 И взял Иеремия другой свиток, и отдал его Варуху, сыну Нерии, писцу, и он написал на нем из уст Иеремии все слова того списка, который сжег Иоаким, царь иудейский, на огне; и еще прибавлено к ним много таких же слов.
