創世記

第38章

1 那時，猶大離開他弟兄下去，到一個亞杜蘭人名叫希拉的家裏去。

2 猶大在那裏看見一個迦南人名叫書亞的女兒，就娶她為妻，與她同房，

3 她就懷孕生了兒子，猶大給他起名叫珥。

4 她又懷孕生了兒子，母親給他起名叫俄南。

5 她復又生了兒子，給他起名叫示拉。她生示拉的時候，猶大正在基悉。

6 猶大為長子珥娶妻，名叫她瑪。

7 猶大的長子珥在耶和華眼中看為惡，耶和華就把他殺了［slew him］。

8 猶大對俄南說：「你當與你哥哥的妻子同房，迎娶她［and marry her］，為你哥哥生子立後。」

9 俄南知道生子不歸自己，所以與他哥哥的妻［his brother's wife］同房的時候，便遺在地，免得給他哥哥留後。

10 俄南所作的，耶和華並不喜悅［displeased the LORD］；故此耶和華也把他殺了［wherefore he slew him also］。

11 猶大心裏說：「恐怕示拉也死，像他兩個哥哥一樣」，就對他兒婦她瑪說：「你去，在你父親家裏守寡，等我兒子示拉長大。」她瑪就回去，住在她父親家裏。

12 過了許久，猶大的妻子書亞的女兒死了；猶大得了安慰，就和他朋友亞杜蘭人希拉上亭拿去，到他剪羊毛的人那裏。

13 有人告訴她瑪說：「看哪［behold］，你的公公上亭拿剪羊毛去了。」

14 她瑪見示拉已經長大，還沒有許配他［given unto him］為妻；就脫了她作寡婦的衣服，用帕子蒙著臉，又遮住身體，坐在亭拿路上的明處［open place］。

15 猶大看見她，以為是妓女；因為她蒙著臉。

16 猶大就轉到她那裏去，說：「來吧。求你［pray thee］讓我與你同寢。（他原不知道是他的兒婦。）」她瑪說：「你要與我同寢，把甚麼給我呢？」

17 猶大說：「我從羊群裏取一隻山羊羔，打發人送來給你。」她瑪說：「在未送以先，你願意給我一個抵押嗎？」

18 他說：「我給你甚麼抵押呢？」她瑪說：「你的印、你的手鐲［bracelets］，和你手裏的杖。」猶大就給了她，與她同寢，她就從猶大懷了孕。

19 她瑪起來走了，除去帕子，仍舊穿上作寡婦的衣服。

20 猶大託他朋友亞杜蘭人送一隻山羊羔去，要從那女人手裏取回抵押來，卻找不著她，

21 就問那地方的人說：「明明在［openly］路旁的妓女在哪裏？」他們說：「這地［place］並沒有妓女。」

22 他回去見猶大說：「我沒有找著她，並且那地方的人說：『這裏沒有妓女。』」

23 猶大說：「看哪［behold］。我把這山羊羔送去了，你竟找不著她。任憑她拿去吧，免得我們被羞辱。」

24 約過了三個月，有人告訴猶大說：「你的兒婦她瑪作了妓女，且見她［behold, she］因行淫有了身孕。」猶大說：「拉出她來，把她燒了。」

25 她瑪被拉出來的時候便打發人去見她公公，對他說：「這些東西是誰的，我就是從誰懷的孕。請你認一認，這印和手鐲［bracelets］並杖都是誰的？」

26 猶大認得那些東西［acknowledged them］，就說［and said］：「她比我更有義，因為我沒有將她給我的兒子示拉。」從此猶大不再與她同寢了。

27 她瑪陣痛［travail］，不料她腹裏是一對雙生。

28 到她陣痛［she travailed］的時候，一個孩子伸出一隻手來；收生婆拿紅線縛在他手上，說：「這是頭生的。」

29 隨後這孩子把手收回去，不料［behold］，他哥哥生出來了；收生婆說：「你為甚麼搶著來呢？」因此給他起名叫法勒斯。

30 後來，他兄弟那手上有紅線的也生出來，就給他起名叫謝拉。

Chapter 38

1 AND it came to pass at that time that Judah went down from his brothers, and turned in to a certain Arlemite, whose name was Hirah.

2 And Judah saw there the daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 And she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Er.

4 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and he called his name Onan.

5 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and he called his name Shelah; and after she bore him she stopped bearing.

6 And Judah took a wife for Er, his first-born, whose name was Tamar.

7 And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

8 And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up an offspring to your brother.

9 And Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; and it came to pass when he went in unto his brother's wife that he spilled the semen on the ground, lest that he should raise an offspring to his brother.

10 And the thing which he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; wherefore he slew him also.

11 Then said Judah to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow in your father's house, until my son Shelah grows up; for he said. Lest he die also, as his brothers did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

12 And in the course of time Shuah's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Arlemite.

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold your father-in-law is going up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 And she put off her widow's dress, and adorned herself, and covered her face with a veil, and sat down at the parting of the road to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given to him to wife.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 And he turned to her by the way and said to her, Come, let me come in unto you (for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law). And she said, What will you give me that you may come in unto me?

17 And he said, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge until you send it?

18 And he said, What kind of a pledge shall I give you? And she said, Your ring and your robe and the staff that is in your hand. So he gave them to her, and then went in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 And she arose and went away and took off her veil from her and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Arlemite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand; but he could not find her.

21 Then he asked the men of the place, saying, Where is the harlot who sat at the parting of the road? And they said, There is no harlot here.

22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, No harlot has been here.

23 And Judah said, Let her keep the pledge, lest I be laughed at; behold, I sent this kid, but you could not find her.

24 And it came to pass, about three months later, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the harlot; and moreover, she is with child because of her harlotry. And Judah said, Bring her out, and let her be burned.

25 When they brought her out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man to whom these articles belong, I am with child; and she said, Determine whose they are, the ring, the robe, and the staff.

26 And Judah recognized them, and said, She is more righteous than I; because I did not give her in marriage to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail that, behold, there were twins in her womb.

28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that one of the babes put out his hand; and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, behold, his brother came out; and she said, What a breach has been made for you! Therefore his name was called Pharez.

30 And afterward came out his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his hand; and she called his name Zarah.

1 AND it came to pass at that time that Judah went down from his brothers, and turned in to a certain Arlemite, whose name was Hirah.

2 And Judah saw there the daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 她就懷孕生了兒子，猶大給他起名叫珥。

3 And she conceived, and bore a son; and he called his name Er.

4 她又懷孕生了兒子，母親給他起名叫俄南。

4 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and he called his name Onan.

5 她復又生了兒子，給他起名叫示拉。她生示拉的時候，猶大正在基悉。

5 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and he called his name Shelah; and after she bore him she stopped bearing.

6 猶大為長子珥娶妻，名叫她瑪。

6 And Judah took a wife for Er, his first-born, whose name was Tamar.

7 猶大的長子珥在耶和華眼中看為惡，耶和華就把他殺了［slew him］。

7 And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

8 猶大對俄南說：「你當與你哥哥的妻子同房，迎娶她［and marry her］，為你哥哥生子立後。」

8 And Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up an offspring to your brother.

9 俄南知道生子不歸自己，所以與他哥哥的妻［his brother's wife］同房的時候，便遺在地，免得給他哥哥留後。

9 And Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; and it came to pass when he went in unto his brother's wife that he spilled the semen on the ground, lest that he should raise an offspring to his brother.

10 And the thing which he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; wherefore he slew him also.

11 猶大心裏說：「恐怕示拉也死，像他兩個哥哥一樣」，就對他兒婦她瑪說：「你去，在你父親家裏守寡，等我兒子示拉長大。」她瑪就回去，住在她父親家裏。

11 Then said Judah to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow in your father's house, until my son Shelah grows up; for he said. Lest he die also, as his brothers did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

12 過了許久，猶大的妻子書亞的女兒死了；猶大得了安慰，就和他朋友亞杜蘭人希拉上亭拿去，到他剪羊毛的人那裏。

12 And in the course of time Shuah's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Arlemite.

13 有人告訴她瑪說：「看哪［behold］，你的公公上亭拿剪羊毛去了。」

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold your father-in-law is going up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 她瑪見示拉已經長大，還沒有許配他［given unto him］為妻；就脫了她作寡婦的衣服，用帕子蒙著臉，又遮住身體，坐在亭拿路上的明處［open place］。

14 And she put off her widow's dress, and adorned herself, and covered her face with a veil, and sat down at the parting of the road to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given to him to wife.

15 猶大看見她，以為是妓女；因為她蒙著臉。

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 猶大就轉到她那裏去，說：「來吧。求你［pray thee］讓我與你同寢。（他原不知道是他的兒婦。）」她瑪說：「你要與我同寢，把甚麼給我呢？」

16 And he turned to her by the way and said to her, Come, let me come in unto you (for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law). And she said, What will you give me that you may come in unto me?

17 猶大說：「我從羊群裏取一隻山羊羔，打發人送來給你。」她瑪說：「在未送以先，你願意給我一個抵押嗎？」

17 And he said, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge until you send it?

18 他說：「我給你甚麼抵押呢？」她瑪說：「你的印、你的手鐲［bracelets］，和你手裏的杖。」猶大就給了她，與她同寢，她就從猶大懷了孕。

18 And he said, What kind of a pledge shall I give you? And she said, Your ring and your robe and the staff that is in your hand. So he gave them to her, and then went in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 她瑪起來走了，除去帕子，仍舊穿上作寡婦的衣服。

19 And she arose and went away and took off her veil from her and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 猶大託他朋友亞杜蘭人送一隻山羊羔去，要從那女人手裏取回抵押來，卻找不著她，

20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Arlemite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand; but he could not find her.

21 就問那地方的人說：「明明在［openly］路旁的妓女在哪裏？」他們說：「這地［place］並沒有妓女。」

21 Then he asked the men of the place, saying, Where is the harlot who sat at the parting of the road? And they said, There is no harlot here.

22 他回去見猶大說：「我沒有找著她，並且那地方的人說：『這裏沒有妓女。』」

22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, No harlot has been here.

23 猶大說：「看哪［behold］。我把這山羊羔送去了，你竟找不著她。任憑她拿去吧，免得我們被羞辱。」

23 And Judah said, Let her keep the pledge, lest I be laughed at; behold, I sent this kid, but you could not find her.

24 And it came to pass, about three months later, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar, your daughter-in-law, has played the harlot; and moreover, she is with child because of her harlotry. And Judah said, Bring her out, and let her be burned.

25 她瑪被拉出來的時候便打發人去見她公公，對他說：「這些東西是誰的，我就是從誰懷的孕。請你認一認，這印和手鐲［bracelets］並杖都是誰的？」

25 When they brought her out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man to whom these articles belong, I am with child; and she said, Determine whose they are, the ring, the robe, and the staff.
