3 Und sie pflegten die Herden5739 alle daselbst zu versammeln622 und den Stein68 von dem Brunnenloch6310 zu wälzen1556 und die Schafe6629 zu tränken8248, und taten7725 alsdann den Stein68 wieder7725 vor das Loch6310 an seine Stätte4725.

4 Und Jakob3290 sprach559 zu ihnen: Lieben Brüder251, wo370 seid ihr her? Sie559 antworteten: Wir sind von Haran2771.

5 Er sprach559 zu ihnen: Kennet ihr3045 auch Laban3837, den Sohn1121 Nahors5152? Sie559 antworteten: Wir kennen3045 ihn wohl.

6 Er sprach559: Gehet es ihm auch wohl7965? Sie559 antworteten: Es gehet ihm wohl7965; und siehe, da kommt935 seine Tochter1323 Rahel7354 mit den Schafen6629.

7 Er sprach559: Es ist noch hoch1419 Tag3117 und ist noch nicht Zeit6256, das Vieh4735 einzutreiben622; tränket die Schafe6629 und gehet hin3212 und weidet7462 sie.

8 Sie559 antworteten: Wir können3201 nicht, bis daß alle Herden5739 zusammengebracht werden622, und wir den Stein68 von des Brunnens875 Loch6310 wälzen1556 und also die Schafe6629 tränken8248.

13 Da aber Laban3837 hörete von Jakob3290, seiner Schwester269 Sohn1121, lief er7323 ihm entgegen7125 und935 herzete und küssete ihn und führete ihn in sein5401 Haus1004. Da erzählete er dem Laban3837 alle diese Sache1697.

14 Da sprach559 Laban3837 zu ihm: Wohlan389, du bist mein Bein6106 und Fleisch1320. Und da er nun einen Mond lang3117 bei ihm gewesen war3427,

15 sprach559 Laban3837 zu Jakob3290: Wiewohl du mein Bruder251 bist, solltest du mir5046 darum umsonst2600 dienen5647? Sage an, was soll dein Lohn4909 sein?

17 Aber Lea3812 hatte ein blödes7390 Gesicht5869; Rahel7354 war hübsch und4758 schön8389.

18 Und Jakob3290 gewann die Rahel7354 lieb157 und sprach559: Ich will dir sieben7651 Jahre8141 um Rahel7354, deine jüngste Tochter1323, dienen5647.

19 Laban3837 antwortete: Es ist5414 besser2896, ich gebe5414 sie559 dir denn einem andern312; bleibe3427 bei mir.

20 Also dienete Jakob3290 um Rahel7354 sieben7651 Jahre8141, und5647 deuchten ihn5869, als wären es einzelne259 Tage3117, so lieb hatte160 er sie.

21 Und935 Jakob3290 sprach559 zu Laban3837: Gib3051 mir nun mein Weib802; denn die Zeit3117 ist4390 hie, daß ich beiliege.

22 Da lud622 Laban3837 alle Leute582 des Orts4725 und machte6213 ein Hochzeitsmahl4960.

23 Des Abends6153 aber nahm3947 er seine Tochter1323 Lea3812 und brachte935 sie zu ihm hinein935; und er lag bei ihr.

24 Und Laban3837 gab5414 seiner Tochter1323 Lea3812 seine Magd8198 Silpa2153 zur Magd8198.

25 Des Morgens1242 aber siehe, da war es Lea3812. Und er sprach559 zu Laban3837: Warum hast du mir das getan6213? Habe5647 ich dir nicht um Rahel7354 gedienet? Warum hast du mich denn betrogen7411?

26 Laban3837 antwortete: Es ist nicht Sitte6213 in unserm Lande4725, daß man559 die jüngste ausgebe5414 vor6440 der ältesten.

27 Halte4390 mit dieser2063 die Woche7620 aus, so will ich dir diese auch geben5414 um den Dienst5656, den du bei mir noch andere312 sieben7651 Jahre8141 dienen5647 sollst.

28 Jakob3290 tat6213 also und hielt4390 die Woche7620 aus. Da gab5414 ihm Laban Rahel7354, seine Tochter1323, zum Weibe802.

29 Und3837 gab5414 seiner Tochter1323 Rahel7354 seine Magd8198 Bilha1090 zur Magd8198.

30 Also lag er auch bei mit Rahel7354 und5647 hatte935 Rahel7354 lieber denn Lea3812; und dienete bei ihm fürder die andern312 sieben7651 Jahre8141.

34 Abermal ward sie7121 schwanger2029 und gebar3205 einen Sohn1121 und sprach559: Nun6471 wird sich mein Mann376 wieder zu mir tun, denn ich habe ihm3867 drei7969 Söhne1121 geboren3205. Darum hieß8034 sie ihn Levi3878.

Chapter 29

1 THEN Jacob hastened on his journey, and came to the land of the people of the east.

2 And he looked, and beheld a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks and a large stone was upon the well's mouth.

3 And all the flocks were gathered there; and the shepherds rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and then put the stone back in its place upon the well's mouth.

4 And Jacob said to them, My brethren, where do you come from? And they said, We are from Haran.

5 And he said to them, Do you know Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We do know him.

6 And he said to them, Is he well? And they said, He is well; and, behold, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep.

7 And Jacob said, Lo, the sun is still high, it is not yet time that the cattle should be gathered together; water the sheep, and go and feed them.

8 And they said, We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together and the shepherds roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.

9 gland while he was still conversing with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep; for she was a shepherdess.

10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob drew near and rolled the stone from the well's mouth and watered the sheep of Laban his mother's brother.

11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's kinsman and that he was Rebekah's son; and she ran and told her father.

13 And it came to pass when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, he ran to meet him and embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his house. And Jacob related to Laban all these things.

14 And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. And t he stayed with him for a month.

15 And Laban said to Jacob, Because you are my kinsman, should you therefore work for me for nothing? Tell me, what shall your wages be?

16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the older was Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel.

17 And Leah had attractive eyes; but Rachel was beautiful and well favored.

18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and he said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.

19 And Laban said to him, It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man; abide with me.

20 Thus Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed to him but a few days because he was in love with her.

21 And Jacob said to Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

22 And so Laban gathered together all the men of the place and made a feast.

23 And it came to pass in the evening, he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and Jacob went in unto her.

24 And Laban gave Zilpah his maid to his daughter Leah for a servant.

25 And it came to pass in the morning, behold, it was Leah; and Jacob said to Laban, What is this thing that you have done to me? Did not I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?

26 Then Laban said to Jacob, It is not so done in our country, to give the younger in marriage before the elder.

27 Finish the wedding feast for this one, and then I will give you the other also for the service which you shall serve with me yet another seven years.

28 And Jacob did so, and finished her wedding feast; and Laban gave him his daughter Rachel to wife.

29 And Laban gave Bilhah his maid to Rachel his daughter to be her maid.

30 And he went in unto Rachel also, and he loved Rachel also more than Leah, and served with Laban another seven years.

31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

32 And Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, Because the LORD has seen my affliction, now therefore my husband will love me.

33 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also; so she called his name Simeon.

34 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and said, Now this time my husband will surely love me, because I have born him three sons therefore she called his name Levi.

35 And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said, This time I will praise the LORD; therefore she called his name Judah; and then she ceased bearing.

11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
