Matthew

Chapter 26

1 And it came1096 to pass, when3753 Jesus2424 had finished5055 all3956 these5128 sayings,3056 he said2036 to his disciples,3101

2 You know1492 that after3326 two1417 days2250 is the feast of the passover,3957 and the Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 to be crucified.4717

3 Then5119 assembled4863 together4863 the chief749 priests,749 and the scribes,1122 and the elders4245 of the people,2992 to the palace833 of the high749 priest,749 who3588 was called3004 Caiaphas,2533

4 And consulted4823 that they might take2902 Jesus2424 by subtlety,1388 and kill615 him.

5 But they said,3004 Not on1722 the feast1859 day, lest2443 3361 there be an uproar2351 among1722 the people.2992

6 Now1161 when Jesus2424 was in Bethany,963 in the house3614 of Simon4613 the leper,3015

7 There came4334 to him a woman1135 having2192 an alabaster211 box211 of very927 precious927 ointment,3464 and poured2708 it on1909 his head,2776 as he sat345 at345 meat.

8 But when his disciples3101 saw1492 it, they had indignation,23 saying,3004 To what5101 purpose is this3778 waste?684

9 For this5124 ointment3464 might1410 have been sold4097 for much,4183 and given1325 to the poor.4434

10 When Jesus2424 understood1097 it, he said2036 to them, Why5101 trouble2873 3930 you the woman?1135 for she has worked2038 a good18 work2041 on me.

11 For you have2192 the poor4434 always3842 with you; but me you have2192 not always.3842

12 For in that she has poured906 this5124 ointment3464 on1909 my body,4983 she did4160 it for my burial.1779

13 Truly281 I say3004 to you, Wherever3699 1437 this5124 gospel2098 shall be preached2784 in the whole3650 world,2889 there shall also2532 this,3778 that this3778 woman has done,4160 be told2980 for a memorial3422 of her.

14 Then5119 one1520 of the twelve,1427 called3004 Judas2455 Iscariot,2469 went4198 to the chief749 priests,749

15 And said2036 to them, What5101 will2309 you give1325 me, and I will deliver3860 him to you? And they covenanted2476 with him for thirty5144 pieces of silver.694

16 And from that time5119 he sought2212 opportunity2120 to betray3860 him.

17 Now1161 the first4413 day of the feast of unleavened106 bread the disciples3101 came4334 to Jesus,2424 saying3004 to him, Where4226 will2309 you that we prepare2090 for you to eat5315 the passover?3957

18 And he said,2036 Go5217 into1519 the city4172 to such1170 a man, and say2036 to him, The Master1320 said,3004 My time2540 is at1451 hand;1451 I will keep4160 the passover3957 at4314 your house with my disciples.3101

19 And the disciples3101 did4160 as Jesus2424 had appointed4929 them; and they made2090 ready2090 the passover.3957

20 Now1161 when the even3798 was come,1096 he sat345 down345 with the twelve.1427

21 And as they did eat,2068 he said,2036 Truly281 I say3004 to you, that one1520 of you shall betray3860 me.

22 And they were exceeding4970 sorrowful,3076 and began756 every1538 one of them to say3004 to him, Lord,2962 is it I?

23 And he answered611 and said,2036 He that dips1686 his hand5495 with me in the dish,5165 the same3778 shall betray3860 me.

24 The Son5207 of man444 goes5217 as it is written1125 of him: but woe3759 to that man444 by whom3739 the Son5207 of man444 is betrayed!3860 it had been2258 good18 for that man444 if1487 he had not been born.1080

25 Then1161 Judas,2455 which3588 betrayed3860 him, answered611 and said,2036 Master,4461 is it I? He said3004 to him, You have said.2036

26 And as they were eating,2068 Jesus2424 took2983 bread,740 and blessed2127 it, and broke2806 it, and gave1325 it to the disciples,3101 and said,2036 Take,2983 eat;5315 this5124 is my body.4983

27 And he took2983 the cup,4221 and gave1325 thanks,2168 and gave1325 it to them, saying,3004 Drink4095 you all3956 of it;

28 For this5124 is my blood129 of the new2537 testament,1242 which3588 is shed1632 for many4183 for the remission859 of sins.266

29 But I say3004 to you, I will not drink4095 from now on575 737 of this5127 fruit1081 of the vine,288 until2193 that day2250 when3752 I drink4095 it new2537 with you in my Father's3962 kingdom.932

30 And when they had sung5214 an hymn,5214 they went1831 out into1519 the mount3735 of Olives.1636

31 Then5119 said3004 Jesus2424 to them, All3956 you shall be offended4624 because1722 of me this5026 night:3571 for it is written,1125 I will smite3960 the shepherd,4166 and the sheep4263 of the flock4167 shall be scattered1287 abroad.1287

32 But after3326 I am risen1453 again,1453 I will go4254 before4254 you into1519 Galilee.1056

33 Peter4074 answered611 and said2036 to him, Though1499 all3956 men shall be offended4624 because1722 of you, yet will I never3763 be offended.4624

34 Jesus2424 said5346 to him, Truly281 I say5346 to you, That this5026 night,3571 before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 you shall deny533 me thrice.5151

35 Peter4074 said3004 to him, Though2579 I should1163 die599 with you, yet3364 will I not deny533 you. Likewise3668 also2532 said2036 all3956 the disciples.3101

36 Then5119 comes2064 Jesus2424 with them to a place5564 called3004 Gethsemane,1068 and said3004 to the disciples,3101 Sit2523 you here,848 while2193 I go565 and pray4336 yonder.1563

37 And he took3880 with him Peter4074 and the two1417 sons5207 of Zebedee,2199 and began756 to be sorrowful3076 and very85 heavy.85

38 Then5119 said3004 he to them, My soul5590 is exceeding4036 sorrowful,4036 even to death:2288 tarry3306 you here,5602 and watch1127 with me.

39 And he went4281 a little3397 farther,4281 and fell4098 on1909 his face,4383 and prayed,4336 saying,3004 O my Father,3962 if1487 it be possible,1415 let this5124 cup4221 pass3928 from me: nevertheless4133 not as I will,2309 but as you will.

40 And he comes2064 to the disciples,3101 and finds2147 them asleep,2518 and said3004 to Peter,4074 What,3779 could2480 you not watch1127 with me one3391 hour?5610

41 Watch1127 and pray,4336 that you enter1525 not into1519 temptation:3986 the spirit4151 indeed3303 is willing,4289 but the flesh4561 is weak.772

42 He went565 away565 again3825 the second1208 time, and prayed,4336 saying,3004 O my Father,3962 if1487 this5124 cup4221 may1410 not pass3928 away3928 from me, except3362 I drink4095 it, your will2307 be done.1096

43 And he came2064 and found2147 them asleep2518 again:3825 for their eyes3788 were heavy.916

44 And he left863 them, and went565 away565 again,3825 and prayed4336 the third5154 time, saying2036 the same846 words.3056

45 Then5119 comes2064 he to his disciples,3101 and said3004 to them, Sleep2518 on now,3063 and take your rest:373 behold,2400 the hour5610 is at1448 hand,1448 and the Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 into1519 the hands5495 of sinners.268

46 Rise,1453 let us be going:71 behold,2400 he is at1448 hand1448 that does betray3860 me.

47 And while he yet2089 spoke,2980 see,2400 Judas,2455 one1520 of the twelve,1427 came,2064 and with him a great4183 multitude3793 with swords3162 and staves,3586 from the chief749 priests749 and elders4245 of the people.2992

48 Now1161 he that betrayed3860 him gave1325 them a sign,4592 saying,3004 Whomsoever3739 302 I shall kiss,5368 that same846 is he: hold2902 him fast.

49 And immediately2112 he came4334 to Jesus,2424 and said,2036 Hail,5463 master;4461 and kissed2705 him.

50 And Jesus2424 said2036 to him, Friend,2083 why1909 3739 are you come?3918 Then5119 came4334 they, and laid1911 hands5495 on1909 Jesus 2424and took2902 him.

51 And, behold,2400 one1520 of them which were with Jesus2424 stretched1614 out his hand,5495 and drew645 his sword,3162 and struck3960 a servant1401 of the high749 priest's,749 and smote851 off851 his ear.5621

52 Then5119 said3004 Jesus2424 to him, Put654 up again654 your sword3162 into1519 his place:5117 for all3956 they that take2983 the sword3162 shall perish622 with the sword.3162

53 Think1380 you that I cannot3756 1410 now737 pray3870 to my Father,3962 and he shall presently3936 give3936 me more4119 than2228 twelve1427 legions3003 of angels?32

54 But how4459 then3767 shall the scriptures1124 be fulfilled,4137 that thus3779 it must1163 be?

55 In that same1565 hour5610 said2036 Jesus2424 to the multitudes,3793 Are you come1831 out as against1909 a thief3027 with swords3162 and staves3586 for to take4815 me? I sat2516 daily2596 2250 with you teaching1321 in the temple,2411 and you laid no3756 hold2902 on me.

56 But all3650 this5124 was done,1096 that the scriptures1124 of the prophets4396 might be fulfilled.4137 Then5119 all3956 the disciples3101 forsook863 him, and fled.5343

57 And they that had laid hold2902 on Jesus2424 led520 him away520 to Caiaphas2533 the high749 priest,749 where3699 the scribes1122 and the elders4245 were assembled.4863

58 But Peter4074 followed190 him afar3113 off575 to the high749 priest's749 palace,833 and went1525 in, and sat2521 with the servants,5257 to see1492 the end.5056

59 Now the chief749 priests,749 and elders,4245 and all3650 the council,4892 sought2212 false5580 witness5577 against2596 Jesus,2424 to put2289 him to death;2289

60 But found2147 none:3756 yes,2532 though many4183 false5575 witnesses5575 came,4334 yet found they none.3756 At the last5305 came4334 two1417 false5575 witnesses,5575

61 And said,2036 This3778 fellow said,5346 I am able1410 to destroy2647 the temple3485 of God,2316 and to build3618 it in three5140 days.2250

62 And the high749 priest749 arose,450 and said2036 to him, Answer611 you nothing?3762 what5101 is it which these3778 witness2649 against2649 you?

63 But Jesus2424 held4623 his peace,4623 And the high749 priest749 answered611 and said2036 to him, I adjure1844 you by the living2198 God,2316 that you tell2036 us whether1487 you be the Christ,5547 the Son5207 of God.2316

64 Jesus2424 said3004 to him, You have said:2036 nevertheless4133 I say3004 to you, Hereafter575 737 shall you see3700 the Son5207 of man444 sitting2521 on1537 the right1188 hand of power,1411 and coming2064 in the clouds3507 of heaven.3772

65 Then5119 the high749 priest749 rent1284 his clothes,2440 saying,3004 He has spoken987 blasphemy;987 what5101 further2089 need5532 have2192 we of witnesses?3144 behold,2396 now3568 you have heard191 his blasphemy.988

66 What5101 think1380 you? They answered611 and said,2036 He is guilty1777 of death.2288

67 Then5119 did they spit1716 in his face,4383 and buffeted2852 him; and others3588 smote4474 him with the palms4474 of their hands,

68 Saying,3004 Prophesy4395 to us, you Christ,5547 Who5101 is he that smote3817 you?

69 Now1161 Peter4074 sat2521 without1854 in the palace:833 and a damsel3814 came4334 to him, saying,3004 You also2532 were2258 with Jesus2424 of Galilee.1056

70 But he denied720 before1715 them all,3956 saying,3004 I know1492 not what5101 you say.3004

71 And when he was gone1831 out into1519 the porch,4440 another243 maid saw1492 him, and said3004 to them that were there,1563 This3778 fellow was also2532 with Jesus2424 of Nazareth.3478

72 And again3825 he denied720 with an oath,3727 I do not know1492 the man.444

73 And after3326 a while3397 came4334 to him they that stood2476 by, and said2036 to Peter,4074 Surely230 you also2532 are1488 one of them; for your speech2981 denudes1212 4160 you.

74 Then5119 began756 he to curse2653 and to swear,3660 saying, I know1492 not the man.444 And immediately2112 the cock220 crew.5455

75 And Peter4074 remembered3415 the word4487 of Jesus,2424 which3588 said2046 to him, Before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 you shall deny533 me thrice. And he went1831 out, and wept2799 bitterly.4090

Matthew

Chapter 26

1 WHEN Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples,

2 You know that after two days will be the passover, and the Son of man will be betrayed to be crucified.

3 Then the high priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled in the court yard of the high priest, who is called Caiaphas.

4 And they took counsel concerning Jesus, to arrest him by a snare and kill him.

5 And they said, Not on the feast day, so as not to cause a riot among the people.

6 And when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 A woman came up to him with an alabaster vessel of precious perfume, and she poured it upon the head of Jesus, while he was reclining.

8 When his disciples saw it, they were dis- pleased, and said, Why is this loss?

9 For it could have been sold for a great deal, and given to the poor.

10 But Jesus understood it and said to them, Why are you troubling the woman? She has done a good work to me.

11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not have me always.

12 But this one who poured the perfume on my body, did it as for my burial.

13 And truly I say to you, Wherever this my gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas of Iscariot, went to the high priests;

15 And he said to them, What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they promised him thirty pieces of silver.

16 And from that time he sought an opportunity to betray him.

17 On the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus and said to him, Where do you wish that we may prepare the passover for you to eat?

18 And he said to them, Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, Our Master says, My time has come, I will observe the passover with my disciples at your house.

19 And his disciples did as Jesus had commanded them; and they prepared the passover.

20 And when it was evening, he was reclining with his twelve disciples.

21 And while they were eating he said, Truly I say to you, that one of you will betray me.

22 And they felt very sad, and began to say to him one by one, Why, is it I, my Lord?

23 And he answered and said, He who dips his hand with me in the dish, he will betray me.

24 The Son of man is going through, just as it is written concerning him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! it would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

25 Then Judas the traitor answered and said, Master, perhaps it is I? Jesus said to him, You say that.

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it, and he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and he said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 Then he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them and said, Take, drink of it, all of you.

28 This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say to you, from now on I shall not drink from this fruit of the vine, until the day when I drink it anew with you in the kingdom of God.

30 And they offered praise, and went out to the Mount of Olives.

31 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will deny me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of his flock will be scattered.

32 But after I am risen, I will be in Galilee before you.

33 Peter answered and said to him, Even if every man should deny you, I will never deny you.

34 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that in this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.

35 Peter said to him, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you. All the disciples said likewise.

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place which is called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit down here, while I go to pray.

37 And he took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and he began to be sorrowful and oppressed.

38 He said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; wait for me here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little further and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; but let it be, not as I will, but as you.

40 Then he came to his disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, So, you were not able to watch with me even for one hour?

41 Awake and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is ready, but the body is weak.

42 He went away again the second time and prayed and said, O my Father, if this cup cannot pass, and if I have to drink it, let it be according to your will.

43 He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them and went away again and prayed the third time, and he said the same word.

45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, Sleep from now on and get your rest; behold, the hour has come, and the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.

46 Arise, let us go; behold, he who is to deliver me has arrived.

47 While he was speaking, behold, Judas the traitor, one of the twelve, came and with him a large crowd with swords and staves, from the high priests and the elders of the people.

48 Now Judas the traitor had given them a sign, saying, He whom I kiss, it is he, arrest him.

49 And immediately he came up to Jesus and said, Peace, Master; and he kissed him.

50 Jesus said to him, Is it for this that you have come, my friend? Then they came near and laid hands on Jesus, and arrested him.

51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew a sword, and struck it at the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

52 Then Jesus said to him, Return the sword to its place; for all who take swords will die by swords.

53 Or do you think that I cannot ask of my Father, and he will now raise up for me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 How then could the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?

55 At that very hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out with swords and staves to arrest me like a bandit? I sat with you every day, teaching in the temple, and you did not arrest me.

56 But this has happened so that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

57 And those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled.

58 But Simon Peter followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest, and he went inside and sat with the soldiers, to see the end.

59 Now the high priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put him to death.

60 But they could not find any; then there came a great many false witnesses; but at the end two came forward,

61 And said, This man said, I can tear down the temple of God, and build it in three days.

62 And the high priest stood up and said to him, You are not answering anything. What is it that these men testify against you?

63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure you by the living God, to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God?

64 Jesus said to him, You say that. But I say to you that from henceforth you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds of the sky.

65 The high priest then rent his clothes and said, Behold, he is blaspheming; why therefore do we need witnesses? behold, you have now heard his blasphemy.

66 What else do you want? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him on his head, and others beat him,

68 Saying, O Christ, prophesy to us; who smote you?

69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and said to him, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

70 But he denied it before all of them, and said, I do not understand what you are saying.

71 And as he was going to the porch, another one saw him, and she said to them, This man was also there with Jesus the Nazarene.

72 Again he denied it with oaths, I do not know the man.

73 After a while, those who were standing came up, and said to Peter, Truly you also are one of them, for even your speech proves it.

74 Then he began to curse and to swear, I do not know the man. At that very hour the cock crowed.

75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which he had said to him, Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Chapter 26

1 And it came1096 to pass, when3753 Jesus2424 had finished5055 all3956 these5128 sayings,3056 he said2036 to his disciples,3101

1 WHEN Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples,

2 You know1492 that after3326 two1417 days2250 is the feast of the passover,3957 and the Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 to be crucified.4717

2 You know that after two days will be the passover, and the Son of man will be betrayed to be crucified.

3 Then5119 assembled4863 together4863 the chief749 priests,749 and the scribes,1122 and the elders4245 of the people,2992 to the palace833 of the high749 priest,749 who3588 was called3004 Caiaphas,2533

3 Then the high priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled in the court yard of the high priest, who is called Caiaphas.

4 And consulted4823 that they might take2902 Jesus2424 by subtlety,1388 and kill615 him.

4 And they took counsel concerning Jesus, to arrest him by a snare and kill him.

5 But they said,3004 Not on1722 the feast1859 day, lest2443 3361 there be an uproar2351 among1722 the people.2992

5 And they said, Not on the feast day, so as not to cause a riot among the people.

6 Now1161 when Jesus2424 was in Bethany,963 in the house3614 of Simon4613 the leper,3015

6 And when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 There came4334 to him a woman1135 having2192 an alabaster211 box211 of very927 precious927 ointment,3464 and poured2708 it on1909 his head,2776 as he sat345 at345 meat.

7 A woman came up to him with an alabaster vessel of precious perfume, and she poured it upon the head of Jesus, while he was reclining.

8 But when his disciples3101 saw1492 it, they had indignation,23 saying,3004 To what5101 purpose is this3778 waste?684

8 When his disciples saw it, they were dis- pleased, and said, Why is this loss?

9 For this5124 ointment3464 might1410 have been sold4097 for much,4183 and given1325 to the poor.4434

9 For it could have been sold for a great deal, and given to the poor.

10 When Jesus2424 understood1097 it, he said2036 to them, Why5101 trouble2873 3930 you the woman?1135 for she has worked2038 a good18 work2041 on me.

10 But Jesus understood it and said to them, Why are you troubling the woman? She has done a good work to me.

11 For you have2192 the poor4434 always3842 with you; but me you have2192 not always.3842

11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not have me always.

12 For in that she has poured906 this5124 ointment3464 on1909 my body,4983 she did4160 it for my burial.1779

12 But this one who poured the perfume on my body, did it as for my burial.

13 Truly281 I say3004 to you, Wherever3699 1437 this5124 gospel2098 shall be preached2784 in the whole3650 world,2889 there shall also2532 this,3778 that this3778 woman has done,4160 be told2980 for a memorial3422 of her.

13 And truly I say to you, Wherever this my gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.

14 Then5119 one1520 of the twelve,1427 called3004 Judas2455 Iscariot,2469 went4198 to the chief749 priests,749

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas of Iscariot, went to the high priests;

15 And said2036 to them, What5101 will2309 you give1325 me, and I will deliver3860 him to you? And they covenanted2476 with him for thirty5144 pieces of silver.694

15 And he said to them, What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they promised him thirty pieces of silver.

16 And from that time5119 he sought2212 opportunity2120 to betray3860 him.

16 And from that time he sought an opportunity to betray him.

17 Now1161 the first4413 day of the feast of unleavened106 bread the disciples3101 came4334 to Jesus,2424 saying3004 to him, Where4226 will2309 you that we prepare2090 for you to eat5315 the passover?3957

17 On the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus and said to him, Where do you wish that we may prepare the passover for you to eat?

18 And he said,2036 Go5217 into1519 the city4172 to such1170 a man, and say2036 to him, The Master1320 said,3004 My time2540 is at1451 hand;1451 I will keep4160 the passover3957 at4314 your house with my disciples.3101

18 And he said to them, Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, Our Master says, My time has come, I will observe the passover with my disciples at your house.

19 And the disciples3101 did4160 as Jesus2424 had appointed4929 them; and they made2090 ready2090 the passover.3957

19 And his disciples did as Jesus had commanded them; and they prepared the passover.

20 Now1161 when the even3798 was come,1096 he sat345 down345 with the twelve.1427

20 And when it was evening, he was reclining with his twelve disciples.

21 And as they did eat,2068 he said,2036 Truly281 I say3004 to you, that one1520 of you shall betray3860 me.

21 And while they were eating he said, Truly I say to you, that one of you will betray me.

22 And they were exceeding4970 sorrowful,3076 and began756 every1538 one of them to say3004 to him, Lord,2962 is it I?

22 And they felt very sad, and began to say to him one by one, Why, is it I, my Lord?

23 And he answered611 and said,2036 He that dips1686 his hand5495 with me in the dish,5165 the same3778 shall betray3860 me.

23 And he answered and said, He who dips his hand with me in the dish, he will betray me.

24 The Son5207 of man444 goes5217 as it is written1125 of him: but woe3759 to that man444 by whom3739 the Son5207 of man444 is betrayed!3860 it had been2258 good18 for that man444 if1487 he had not been born.1080

24 The Son of man is going through, just as it is written concerning him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! it would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

25 Then1161 Judas,2455 which3588 betrayed3860 him, answered611 and said,2036 Master,4461 is it I? He said3004 to him, You have said.2036

25 Then Judas the traitor answered and said, Master, perhaps it is I? Jesus said to him, You say that.

26 And as they were eating,2068 Jesus2424 took2983 bread,740 and blessed2127 it, and broke2806 it, and gave1325 it to the disciples,3101 and said,2036 Take,2983 eat;5315 this5124 is my body.4983

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it, and he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and he said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 And he took2983 the cup,4221 and gave1325 thanks,2168 and gave1325 it to them, saying,3004 Drink4095 you all3956 of it;

27 Then he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them and said, Take, drink of it, all of you.

28 For this5124 is my blood129 of the new2537 testament,1242 which3588 is shed1632 for many4183 for the remission859 of sins.266

28 This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say3004 to you, I will not drink4095 from now on575 737 of this5127 fruit1081 of the vine,288 until2193 that day2250 when3752 I drink4095 it new2537 with you in my Father's3962 kingdom.932

29 But I say to you, from now on I shall not drink from this fruit of the vine, until the day when I drink it anew with you in the kingdom of God.

30 And when they had sung5214 an hymn,5214 they went1831 out into1519 the mount3735 of Olives.1636

30 And they offered praise, and went out to the Mount of Olives.

31 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will deny me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of his flock will be scattered.

32 But after3326 I am risen1453 again,1453 I will go4254 before4254 you into1519 Galilee.1056

32 But after I am risen, I will be in Galilee before you.

33 Peter4074 answered611 and said2036 to him, Though1499 all3956 men shall be offended4624 because1722 of you, yet will I never3763 be offended.4624

33 Peter answered and said to him, Even if every man should deny you, I will never deny you.

34 Jesus2424 said5346 to him, Truly281 I say5346 to you, That this5026 night,3571 before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 you shall deny533 me thrice.5151

34 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that in this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.

35 Peter4074 said3004 to him, Though2579 I should1163 die599 with you, yet3364 will I not deny533 you. Likewise3668 also2532 said2036 all3956 the disciples.3101

35 Peter said to him, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you. All the disciples said likewise.

36 Then5119 comes2064 Jesus2424 with them to a place5564 called3004 Gethsemane,1068 and said3004 to the disciples,3101 Sit2523 you here,848 while2193 I go565 and pray4336 yonder.1563

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place which is called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit down here, while I go to pray.

37 And he took3880 with him Peter4074 and the two1417 sons5207 of Zebedee,2199 and began756 to be sorrowful3076 and very85 heavy.85

37 And he took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and he began to be sorrowful and oppressed.

38 Then5119 said3004 he to them, My soul5590 is exceeding4036 sorrowful,4036 even to death:2288 tarry3306 you here,5602 and watch1127 with me.

38 He said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; wait for me here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little further and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; but let it be, not as I will, but as you.

40 And he comes2064 to the disciples,3101 and finds2147 them asleep,2518 and said3004 to Peter,4074 What,3779 could2480 you not watch1127 with me one3391 hour?5610

40 Then he came to his disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, So, you were not able to watch with me even for one hour?

41 Watch1127 and pray,4336 that you enter1525 not into1519 temptation:3986 the spirit4151 indeed3303 is willing,4289 but the flesh4561 is weak.772

41 Awake and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is ready, but the body is weak.

42 He went565 away565 again3825 the second1208 time, and prayed,4336 saying,3004 O my Father,3962 if1487 this5124 cup4221 may1410 not pass3928 away3928 from me, except3362 I drink4095 it, your will2307 be done.1096

42 He went away again the second time and prayed and said, O my Father, if this cup cannot pass, and if I have to drink it, let it be according to your will.

43 And he came2064 and found2147 them asleep2518 again:3825 for their eyes3788 were heavy.916

43 He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left863 them, and went565 away565 again,3825 and prayed4336 the third5154 time, saying2036 the same846 words.3056

44 And he left them and went away again and prayed the third time, and he said the same word.

45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, Sleep from now on and get your rest; behold, the hour has come, and the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.

46 Rise,1453 let us be going:71 behold,2400 he is at1448 hand1448 that does betray3860 me.

46 Arise, let us go; behold, he who is to deliver me has arrived.

47 And while he yet2089 spoke,2980 see,2400 Judas,2455 one1520 of the twelve,1427 came,2064 and with him a great4183 multitude3793 with swords3162 and staves,3586 from the chief749 priests749 and elders4245 of the people.2992

47 While he was speaking, behold, Judas the traitor, one of the twelve, came and with him a large crowd with swords and staves, from the high priests and the elders of the people.

48 Now1161 he that betrayed3860 him gave1325 them a sign,4592 saying,3004 Whomsoever3739 302 I shall kiss,5368 that same846 is he: hold2902 him fast.

48 Now Judas the traitor had given them a sign, saying, He whom I kiss, it is he, arrest him.

49 And immediately2112 he came4334 to Jesus,2424 and said,2036 Hail,5463 master;4461 and kissed2705 him.

49 And immediately he came up to Jesus and said, Peace, Master; and he kissed him.

50 And Jesus2424 said2036 to him, Friend,2083 why1909 3739 are you come?3918 Then5119 came4334 they, and laid1911 hands5495 on1909 Jesus 2424and took2902 him.

50 Jesus said to him, Is it for this that you have come, my friend? Then they came near and laid hands on Jesus, and arrested him.

51 And, behold,2400 one1520 of them which were with Jesus2424 stretched1614 out his hand,5495 and drew645 his sword,3162 and struck3960 a servant1401 of the high749 priest's,749 and smote851 off851 his ear.5621

51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew a sword, and struck it at the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

52 Then5119 said3004 Jesus2424 to him, Put654 up again654 your sword3162 into1519 his place:5117 for all3956 they that take2983 the sword3162 shall perish622 with the sword.3162

52 Then Jesus said to him, Return the sword to its place; for all who take swords will die by swords.

53 Think1380 you that I cannot3756 1410 now737 pray3870 to my Father,3962 and he shall presently3936 give3936 me more4119 than2228 twelve1427 legions3003 of angels?32

53 Or do you think that I cannot ask of my Father, and he will now raise up for me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 But how4459 then3767 shall the scriptures1124 be fulfilled,4137 that thus3779 it must1163 be?

54 How then could the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?

55 In that same1565 hour5610 said2036 Jesus2424 to the multitudes,3793 Are you come1831 out as against1909 a thief3027 with swords3162 and staves3586 for to take4815 me? I sat2516 daily2596 2250 with you teaching1321 in the temple,2411 and you laid no3756 hold2902 on me.

55 At that very hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out with swords and staves to arrest me like a bandit? I sat with you every day, teaching in the temple, and you did not arrest me.

56 But all3650 this5124 was done,1096 that the scriptures1124 of the prophets4396 might be fulfilled.4137 Then5119 all3956 the disciples3101 forsook863 him, and fled.5343

56 But this has happened so that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

57 And they that had laid hold2902 on Jesus2424 led520 him away520 to Caiaphas2533 the high749 priest,749 where3699 the scribes1122 and the elders4245 were assembled.4863

57 And those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled.

58 But Peter4074 followed190 him afar3113 off575 to the high749 priest's749 palace,833 and went1525 in, and sat2521 with the servants,5257 to see1492 the end.5056

58 But Simon Peter followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest, and he went inside and sat with the soldiers, to see the end.

59 Now the chief749 priests,749 and elders,4245 and all3650 the council,4892 sought2212 false5580 witness5577 against2596 Jesus,2424 to put2289 him to death;2289

59 Now the high priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put him to death.

60 But found2147 none:3756 yes,2532 though many4183 false5575 witnesses5575 came,4334 yet found they none.3756 At the last5305 came4334 two1417 false5575 witnesses,5575

60 But they could not find any; then there came a great many false witnesses; but at the end two came forward,

61 And said,2036 This3778 fellow said,5346 I am able1410 to destroy2647 the temple3485 of God,2316 and to build3618 it in three5140 days.2250

61 And said, This man said, I can tear down the temple of God, and build it in three days.

62 And the high749 priest749 arose,450 and said2036 to him, Answer611 you nothing?3762 what5101 is it which these3778 witness2649 against2649 you?

62 And the high priest stood up and said to him, You are not answering anything. What is it that these men testify against you?

63 But Jesus2424 held4623 his peace,4623 And the high749 priest749 answered611 and said2036 to him, I adjure1844 you by the living2198 God,2316 that you tell2036 us whether1487 you be the Christ,5547 the Son5207 of God.2316

63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure you by the living God, to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God?

64 Jesus2424 said3004 to him, You have said:2036 nevertheless4133 I say3004 to you, Hereafter575 737 shall you see3700 the Son5207 of man444 sitting2521 on1537 the right1188 hand of power,1411 and coming2064 in the clouds3507 of heaven.3772

64 Jesus said to him, You say that. But I say to you that from henceforth you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds of the sky.

65 Then5119 the high749 priest749 rent1284 his clothes,2440 saying,3004 He has spoken987 blasphemy;987 what5101 further2089 need5532 have2192 we of witnesses?3144 behold,2396 now3568 you have heard191 his blasphemy.988

65 The high priest then rent his clothes and said, Behold, he is blaspheming; why therefore do we need witnesses? behold, you have now heard his blasphemy.

66 What5101 think1380 you? They answered611 and said,2036 He is guilty1777 of death.2288

66 What else do you want? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 Then5119 did they spit1716 in his face,4383 and buffeted2852 him; and others3588 smote4474 him with the palms4474 of their hands,

67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him on his head, and others beat him,

68 Saying,3004 Prophesy4395 to us, you Christ,5547 Who5101 is he that smote3817 you?

68 Saying, O Christ, prophesy to us; who smote you?

69 Now1161 Peter4074 sat2521 without1854 in the palace:833 and a damsel3814 came4334 to him, saying,3004 You also2532 were2258 with Jesus2424 of Galilee.1056

69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and said to him, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

70 But he denied720 before1715 them all,3956 saying,3004 I know1492 not what5101 you say.3004

70 But he denied it before all of them, and said, I do not understand what you are saying.

71 And when he was gone1831 out into1519 the porch,4440 another243 maid saw1492 him, and said3004 to them that were there,1563 This3778 fellow was also2532 with Jesus2424 of Nazareth.3478

71 And as he was going to the porch, another one saw him, and she said to them, This man was also there with Jesus the Nazarene.

72 And again3825 he denied720 with an oath,3727 I do not know1492 the man.444

72 Again he denied it with oaths, I do not know the man.

73 And after3326 a while3397 came4334 to him they that stood2476 by, and said2036 to Peter,4074 Surely230 you also2532 are1488 one of them; for your speech2981 denudes1212 4160 you.

73 After a while, those who were standing came up, and said to Peter, Truly you also are one of them, for even your speech proves it.

74 Then5119 began756 he to curse2653 and to swear,3660 saying, I know1492 not the man.444 And immediately2112 the cock220 crew.5455

74 Then he began to curse and to swear, I do not know the man. At that very hour the cock crowed.

75 And Peter4074 remembered3415 the word4487 of Jesus,2424 which3588 said2046 to him, Before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 you shall deny533 me thrice. And he went1831 out, and wept2799 bitterly.4090

75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which he had said to him, Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
