Chapter 22

1 Then Eliphaz464 the Temanite8489 answered6030 and said,559

2 Can a man1397 be profitable5532 to God,410 as he that is wise7919 may be profitable5532 to himself?5315

3 Is it any pleasure2656 to the Almighty,7706 that you are righteous?6663 or is it gain1214 to him, that you make your ways1870 perfect?8552

4 Will he reprove3198 you for fear3374 of you? will he enter935 with you into judgment?4941

5 Is not your wickedness7451 great?7227 and your iniquities5771 infinite?369

6 For you have taken2254 a pledge2254 from your brother251 for nothing,2600 and stripped6584 the naked6174 of their clothing.899

7 You have not given water4325 to the weary5889 to drink,8248 and you have withheld4513 bread3899 from the hungry.7456

8 But as for the mighty2220 man,376 he had the earth;776 and the honorable5375 6440 man dwelled3427 in it.

9 You have sent7971 widows490 away empty,7387 and the arms2220 of the fatherless3490 have been broken.1792

10 Therefore5921 3651 snares6341 are round5439 about you, and sudden6597 fear6343 troubles926 you;

11 Or176 darkness,2822 that you can not see;7200 and abundance8229 of waters4325 cover3680 you.

12 Is not God433 in the height1363 of heaven?8064 and behold7200 the height7218 of the stars,3556 how3588 high7311 they are!

13 And you say,559 How4100 does God410 know?3045 can he judge8199 through the dark6205 cloud?6205

14 Thick clouds5645 are a covering5643 to him, that he sees7200 not; and he walks1980 in the circuit2329 of heaven.8064

15 Have you marked8104 the old5769 way734 which834 wicked205 men4962 have trodden?1869

16 Which834 were cut7059 down out of time,6256 whose foundation3247 was overflowed3332 with a flood:5104

17 Which said559 to God,410 Depart5493 from us: and what4100 can the Almighty7706 do6466 for them?

18 Yet he filled4390 their houses1004 with good2896 things: but the counsel6098 of the wicked7563 is far7350 from me.

19 The righteous6662 see7200 it, and are glad:8056 and the innocent5355 laugh3932 them to scorn.

20 Whereas518 our substance7009 is not cut3582 down, but the remnant3499 of them the fire784 consumes.398

21 Acquaint5532 now4994 yourself with him, and be at peace:7999 thereby good2896 shall come935 to you.

22 Receive,3947 I pray4994 you, the law8451 from his mouth,6310 and lay7760 up his words561 in your heart.3824

23 If518 you return7725 to the Almighty,7706 you shall be built1129 up, you shall put away7368 iniquity5766 far7350 from your tabernacles.168

24 Then shall you lay7896 up gold1220 as dust,6083 and the gold of Ophir211 as the stones6697 of the brooks.5158

25 Yes, the Almighty7706 shall be your defense,1220 and you shall have plenty8443 of silver.3701

26 For then227 shall you have your delight6026 in the Almighty,7706 and shall lift5375 up your face6440 to God.433

27 You shall make your prayer6279 to him, and he shall hear8085 you, and you shall pay7999 your vows.5088

28 You shall also decree1504 a thing,562 and it shall be established6965 to you: and the light216 shall shine5050 on your ways.1870

29 When3588 men are cast8213 down,8213 then you shall say,559 There is lifting1466 up; and he shall save3467 the humble7807 person.

30 He shall deliver4422 the island336 of the innocent:5355 and it is delivered4422 by the pureness1252 of your hands.3709

1 Тогда ответил Элифаз из Темана:

2 — Может ли человек принести пользу Богу? Даже самый разумный — может ли принести Ему пользу?

3 Что за радость Всемогущему от твоей праведности? Что за польза Ему от твоей безгрешности?

4 За благочестие ли Он тебя осуждает и вступает с тобою в суд?

5 Разве порочность твоя не безмерна, и проступки не бесконечны?

6 Ты брал без причины с братьев залог; ты снимал одежду с полунагих.

7 Ты усталому не давал воды и отказывал в пище голодному,

8 хотя ты был властным человеком и владел землей, и знатный на ней селился.

9 Ты и вдов отсылал ни с чем и сирот оставлял с пустыми руками.

10 Потому и сети вокруг тебя, потому и внезапный ужас страшит,

11 потому и глаза тебе застилает тьма, и разлив многих вод тебя захлестнул.

12 Разве Бог не превыше небес? Взгляни на звезды, как они высоки!

13 Но ты говоришь: «Что знает Бог? Разве может судить Он сквозь мглу?

14 Сокрыт облаками, Он нас не видит, проходя по своду небес».

15 Неужели ты держишься древнего пути, по которому шли беззаконники?

16 Они были до срока истреблены, их основания унес поток.

17 Они говорили Богу: «Оставь нас! Что может сделать нам Всемогущий?» —

18 а Он наполнял добром их дома. Итак, помыслы нечестивых мне отвратительны.

19 Увидев их гибель, ликуют праведные; непорочные смеются над ними, говоря:

20 «Поистине, истреблен наш враг, и огонь пожирает его добро».

21 Примирись же с Богом, и обретешь мир; так придет к тебе благополучие.

22 Прими наставление Его уст и в сердце слова Его сохрани.

23 Если ты вернешься к Всемогущему и удалишь неправду от своего шатра, то будешь восстановлен.

24 Если пылью сочтешь ты золото, камнями ущелий — золото из Офира,

25 то Всемогущий станет твоим золотом, твоим серебром отменным.

26 Ты возликуешь о Всемогущем и поднимешь к Богу свое лицо.

27 Когда ты помолишься, Он услышит; и ты исполнишь свои обеты.

28 Как ты задумаешь, так и сбудется, и на пути твоем воссияет свет.

29 Если кто унижен будет, а ты скажешь: «Возвысь!» — то спасет Он павшего духом.

30 Он спасет даже виновного, спасен он будет чистотой твоих рук.

10 Потому и сети вокруг тебя, потому и внезапный ужас страшит,

11 Or176 darkness,2822 that you can not see;7200 and abundance8229 of waters4325 cover3680 you.

11 потому и глаза тебе застилает тьма, и разлив многих вод тебя захлестнул.

12 Is not God433 in the height1363 of heaven?8064 and behold7200 the height7218 of the stars,3556 how3588 high7311 they are!

12 Разве Бог не превыше небес? Взгляни на звезды, как они высоки!

13 And you say,559 How4100 does God410 know?3045 can he judge8199 through the dark6205 cloud?6205

13 Но ты говоришь: «Что знает Бог? Разве может судить Он сквозь мглу?

23 Если ты вернешься к Всемогущему и удалишь неправду от своего шатра, то будешь восстановлен.

24 Then shall you lay7896 up gold1220 as dust,6083 and the gold of Ophir211 as the stones6697 of the brooks.5158

24 Если пылью сочтешь ты золото, камнями ущелий — золото из Офира,

25 Yes, the Almighty7706 shall be your defense,1220 and you shall have plenty8443 of silver.3701

25 то Всемогущий станет твоим золотом, твоим серебром отменным.

26 For then227 shall you have your delight6026 in the Almighty,7706 and shall lift5375 up your face6440 to God.433

26 Ты возликуешь о Всемогущем и поднимешь к Богу свое лицо.

27 Когда ты помолишься, Он услышит; и ты исполнишь свои обеты.
