Chapter 17

1 My breath7307 is corrupt,2254 my days3117 are extinct,2193 the graves6913 are ready for me.

2 Are there not mockers2049 with me? and does not my eye5869 continue3885 in their provocation?4784

3 Lay7760 down now,4994 put me in a surety6148 with you; who4310 is he that will strike8628 hands3027 with me?

4 For you have hid6845 their heart3820 from understanding:7922 therefore5921 3651 shall you not exalt7311 them.

5 He that speaks5046 flattery2506 to his friends,7453 even the eyes5869 of his children1121 shall fail.3615

6 He has made3322 me also a byword4914 of the people;5971 and aforetime6440 I was as a tabret.8611

7 My eye5869 also is dim3543 by reason of sorrow,3708 and all3605 my members3338 are as a shadow.6738

8 Upright3477 men shall be astonished8074 at5921 this,2063 and the innocent5355 shall stir5782 up himself against5921 the hypocrite.2611

9 The righteous6662 also shall hold270 on his way,1870 and he that has clean2891 hands3027 shall be stronger555 and stronger.

2 Я насмешниками окружён, глаза принуждены их злобу видеть.

3 Господи, поручись за меня! Кто ещё отведёт от меня опасность?

4 Ты их разум лишил понимания, и потому не дашь Ты им победы.

5 Говорят, что ради спасения друзей люди пренебрегают своими детьми, а мои друзья против меня же обернулись.

6 Бог посмешищем сделал меня для всех, люди плюют мне в лицо.

7 Помутнели от скорби мои глаза, и тело стало как тень.

8 Праведные возмущены, и невинные негодуют на неверных.

9 Праведные всё равно от путей своих не отступят, и те, чьи руки чисты, станут сильней.

10 Все вы попытайтесь снова доказать мою неправоту; ни одного мудрого среди вас не вижу.

11 Дни мои кончены, планы разбиты, как и надежды сердца моего.

12 Всё для меня смешалось в беспорядке: ночь приходит вместо дня, а вечер наступает вместо утра.

13 Если и есть тот дом, на который надежды возлагаю я, то это — могила. Если и расстелю постель я, то только в темноте могильной.

14 Но если я тлению говорю „ты мой отец” и червя называю „матерью и сестрой”,

15 то в чём тогда моя надежда? Кто подскажет, где она?

16 И сойдёт ли она со мной к воротам смертельным? Вместе ли спустимся мы в прах?»
